Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

Re: hemorrhoids = I've had them for 50 years, but long ago learned this simple trick:

When you shower, have a rubber glove (I've used just my middle finger) handy, and gently - very gently - push the hemorrhoids back inside with your finger. I won't say it will always be comfortable, but after all the years I've been doing it I find it a breeze. Be VERY carefully you don't have a cut and don't cut yourself, and don't touch anything until you've removed the glove and washed your hand thoroughly.

You might want to ask your doctor and see what others say here, but it's worked for me. No guarantees, though. It's your risk.

You won't get hemorrhoids from using Suprep. They are caused by straining during defecation. But, if you have them, find a good colo-rectal surgeon, and tell him/her that you would like to get them banded. If they're internal, it's a virtually painless procedure. They put a rubber band around each one, and they eventually dry up and fall off. It's way better than surgery and the success rate is over 60%.
Good luck.

I'm a 63-year-old female, healthy, active, mostly vegetarian. Used Suprep yesterday morning and evening, had colonoscopy at 7:00am today, which went fine.

Suprep tastes icky (like cherry and grape with essence of tin can) but in cold water and tossed back quickly, it's doable. Worked fast ... I was cleaned out within 1-1/2 hours and felt fine. Second dose last evening was the same. Advice: Before prep day - eat light. The less you put in, the less you have to get out! On prep day - drink clear sugary stuff to keep your blood sugar up, stay warm, and be happy. Do it ... this can save your life!

I had mine at 12:30 p.m. and was told to do the second bottle at 6:00 a.m. the morning of the colonoscopy. I had over an hour's drive, so I was a little nervous that I would still be running to the toilet, but I did fine.

I could get it down and it worked in about the right time. I just wish I knew which was more important, keeping it down or drinking all the water afterwards. If I try to drink all the water within an hour I will vomit for sure! I wish there was someone to ask!

Dog Lady - I know it's probably too late for you, since you wrote some 11 hours ago, but I suggest you try a druggist. They know a whole lot about thing like this. And some pharmacies are open 24 hours.

I had my colonoscopy this morning. I followed the instructions my doctor gave me, which varied from the Suprep label. A bottle mixed in 16 oz. water at 6 PM, followed by 32 ounces of water w/in 1 hour. Then a glass of water an hour until bed, and another round of a bottle mixed in 16 oz. water and 32 oz. water at 3 AM.
The first bottle was practically harmless. It tasted like artificially sweetened salty banana water. An hour passed, then results occurred. What I was not prepared for was the fact you are basically passing water, nothing formed. It did not happen more than a dozen times, and I never got chilled or nauseated. But it was definitely an unfamiliar sensation and to put it mildly, gross.
The 2nd round was more distasteful. On a completely empty stomach, the Suprep was foul-tasting. I was happy I did not get chills or sick to my stomach. The key is to stay upright, and get warm before drinking it. It would be hard to get rid of chills once they start.
My only real complaint is that my doctor did not subscribe to the school of sedation thought that goes on the belief the patient needn't remember anything. I had a very low dose of Versed and Demerol. It barely did a thing. I was awake and acutely aware of everything...and I was uncomfortable.
I figured out later it's all about making things go quickly, and minimal recovery time. That way they can get rid of you, and do more procedures in a day. Next time I have one, I am going to consult ahead of time and find a doctor who will knock me out all the way. It's already too stressful and uncomfortable to prepare for; the last thing I want to do is remain alert during the actual scoping.
Be sure to ask if you prefer to be asleep...in this era of tightening budgets and cost-saving, you may not want your sedation agent to be the thing they cut back on! It really bugged me too that I said this up front, and it was not until right before they started that they said, "Oh, you won't be out." I felt disregarded. But what are you going to do?

Because this forum was such a huge help for me, I wanted to share my own experience. I followed a lot of the helpful hints on this website. I used a straw to drink the prep and had an iced tea chaser ready in between each drink. After the first drink, I thought it was pretty tolerable, but after about the third drink, I was ready to throw up. I found it was better to do about three quick drinks (with chasers in between each) and then walk outside for some fresh air, take a 2-3 minute break, then repeat.

It took about 2.5hours for the prep to start working. I was getting really nervous that it wasn't going to work at all. I found that it worked better when I finally decided to get out of bed and walk around, so I just did some chores around the house to keep things moving. Because the first took so long to work, I started my 2nd dose an hour earlier than my dr. said. But the 2nd dose started immediately.

I did have the chills that many people mentioned - so be prepared for that.

Also, the Charmin wipes were a life saver - use those, too!

All in all, though the drink was terrible and hard to get down, the actual prep was not too bad.

Good luck!

Just took first dosage at 6:00 p.m. Tasted a lot like cough syrup but not too terrible Started to work about 30 minutes later . . . . . been back to bathroom 4 times and it is 7:20. No discomfort.

Bless your sweet heart!!!! I'd have gotten off that table and marched out of there! I cannot imagine going through a colonoscopy being aware of everything! What they give now to knock you out does not keep you groggy. When you wake up, you are wide awake and shortly after the procedure. The old way kept me groggy all day (kind of liked it).

well literally after first dose -- water pouring out of me all night every hour or so. Just got up at 3:15 a.m. to finish second dose. Is water going to be pouring out at the colonoscopy too? A little nervous about that. Also had chills and turned the heat way up on the first round, and now waiting to see how this second round goes.

That sounds aweful, but I have had quite the poopsite reaction. No pain, no cramping, no discomfort at all. It tasted absolutely terrible but it worked quote well.. so far.

This is my first Colonoscopy Prep so I have very little to compare it to. Drank the SUPREP last night and again this morning (just about 30 min ago). I was prepared for the worst. It is really not bad at all. I kept it in the fridge for the week prior so it was icey cold. Mixed with gatorade and drank it down. I found it to be a lot like the cough syrup in taste although it was hard to taste. It worked predictably and without too much upset. I do have the chills as someone said above. I would recommend it to anyone for their next procedure. Keep it cold - mix with gatorade or something pleasant and good luck.

Has anyone else had an inability to sleep? I took my first does at 5:00 p.m. I had to gag the stuff down. It takes like cough syrup only salty. The restroom part wasn't bad. I put in a movie as I started drinking everything. I was out of the potty by the time the movie was over. I have a headache when I lay down and my stomach is rumbling. I am a little nervous that I will not be able to keep the second dose down. I plan to start at 3:45 and maybe just maybe get a little nap before I have to be at the hospital at 8:45.

Drink it cold. Mix with Gatorade and it really is not bad. Do not use a straw.

I absolutely use a straw! It gets it past the taste buds that make it taste awful!!! I use TWO straws and get it down twice as fast!!! Then I take a bite of a banana popsicle and have no bad taste ever!

I posted last night before my colonoscopy. I did not like this prep at all. It tasted awful, awful. I still have a mild headache, 27 hours after the first dose. It took forever for me to fall asleep last night so I only had 4 hours sleep before it was time to wake up for the second dose. I also had some feelings of anger and rage. I don't know if others have had this experience with this prep but I thought I would share just in case my experience was atypical. Waiting 10-12 hours knowing you have to drink that stuff again is not fun at all! I had to urinate a lot during the waiting time at the hospital because I just drank 48 ounces of liquid. I kept having to get up to use the bathroom while we juggled my I.V. and I feared I would pee all over the table as soon as they put me under. It also requires a later arrival time for the procedure. I didn't go back until 11:00 a.m. I would have preferred an earlier time. My poor nurses paid the price because I was so cranky. I won't do this prep again and I hope that 10 years from now they have a better method. My brother is supposed to use this in two weeks. I will strongly advise against using this one.

second dose was not too terrible. Colonoscopy was a breeze.
Was heavily sedated but although awake felt nothing whatsoever,
and even watched some of it on the monitor. Entire procedure took
15 minutes and doctor said come back in 10 years. Don't be frightened
of this procedure, it honestly is no big deal.
