I was prescribed sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS. The pill is oval with a V on the font and 58|98 on the back. It does not smell like sulfur at all, and my urine has not smelled of sulfur. Do I have the right medicine? ## Yes, you do have the right medication. Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is a sulfur based antibiotic, but it is not actual sulfur, so it will not smell like it or cause your urine to smell like it. I'm a pharmacist trying to identify some mexican drug names told to me by a patient. One was "Soltrim"...which I discovered was Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim ("Bactrim" in the USA). But I can't find what the trade names "Enzmat" and "Espabion" are. Are Sulfameth/tmp ds tab good for Sinus Infection. these were given to me by my doctor back in 11/10/2010, ## Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is a sulfonamide antibacterial combination of Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole, in the ratio of 1 to 5, used in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections. That said, I would assume that it is beneficial for a sinus infection; but not being a doctor myself I cannot be 100% certain of this. My elderly mother is taking this drug and is sleeping , almost non responsive. Could the medication be causing this? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat different types of infections. Drowsiness can be a side effect, however, if she is being treated for an infection, it could also be caused from her being ill. Is she on any other medications, as well? I suggest calling her doctor to get to the root of the problem. Over the Internet, I can only guess at what might be causing the problem.
