im taking sulfamethoxazole-tmp ds.....and got some messed up side a effects....i have a headacke everyday...and just last night for the frist time..i was on my way to work and then out of no where i got super hot and my hole body felt numb...2 minutes later i get sick...the for 5 hours i had the shiver off and on mostly on....i finnelly get to eat something and i feel fine agine...what is up with that!but tell me what u think

I am now on day #4 if these horse pills, and still have no adverse side effects.

I took 1 pill within 24 hrs had bright red splotches on thighs, big burning red area on forearm which turned into multiple blisters(gross). Looked up Steven Johnson Syndrome a result of this antibiotic(nasty) . Come to the conclusion I'm allergic to sulfa.Did have a slight headache and nausea during day 2 took last dose at 10am don't intend to take any more.

My 3rd post. Finished the 10 days, but wound up, midpoint, with a LOT of side effects: loss of appetite, clammy cold sweats, achy joints, and an itchy, burning body rash. Doctor said I had a severe sulfa reaction and put me on prednisone. Never again!

Last day of taking 2 pill twice a day for five days for UTI. Still a little burning but the worst is the nausea. Feels like morning sickness. TERRIBLE.

This is from an RN. If ANYONE has any of the following signs or symptoms, call your doctor or nurse practitioner immediately and tell them exactly what you are experiencing.

RASHES / THROAT TIGHTENING-SWELLING / ITCHING / EXTREMELY HEIGHTENED PAIN SENSATIONS [as in] BACKACHE-HEADACHE-LEG PAIN / NAUSEA - VOMITING / SKIN BLISTERING OR BRIGHT RED SPLOTCHES / EXTREME HOT- COLD SENSATIONS / HALLUCINATIONS / NIGHTMARES / SHAKINESS / NUMBNESS / PARALYSIS / TREMORS / TWITCHINESS / CONFUSION / ZERO SLEEP / WEIRD SENSORY PERCEPTIONS [ as in feeling extremely tall or the floor has waves like the ocean] RAGING HEARTBURN to name only some of the nasty side affects which can happen.

SULFA [the main ingredient in SMZ-TMP DS] is a strong and NASTY antibiotic. It is one of the oldest in use still yet; has been improved upon but still can cause lots of bad side affects, rashes and throat swelling being some of the worst. I cannot stress enough: if you have any bad side affects, DON'T mess around trying to figure out on your own what to do... CALL YOUR DOCTOR AND STOP TAKING THE DRUG.

Oh, and by the way, DON'T take ANY alcohol when taking ANY medication. You could inadvertently kill yourself.

Everytime I hear a new reply or addition to this medicine it makes me so mad at the people that make this crap and give it to people. I still after a year and 5 month have some lingering side effects. Still twitching in my face and chin. And I don't think my head will ever be the same. I know I only took 4 days of two pills a day and ended up with so many side effects it wasn't even funny and I have not a reservation that if I would have continued I would be dead today or so messed up that I would wish it on myself. I think it messes with your brain so much that you could hurt someone and not mean to. Crash your car cause you don't know what the heck you are doing. Have permanent nerological damage I mean it's endless. I do hope someday that there is a class action on this drug and they pull it all together. There is a write up in a UK paper about it being the silent killer. Good read look for Brian Deer for a good read. I will pray for all who are suffering for a recovery of any kind.

i have a bursa problem in my left elbow, the doc gave me shot of cortisone for it, 2 weeks later my elbow was swelled up more and i can not even touch my nose with my finger due to it. a week ago he drained it and another shot of cortisone, and augment-en as an antibiotic, the back side from the elbow up feels better but yesterday he told me i may need to get surgery and to see a orthopedic doc about it. but i will see him my regular doctor in another week, i already take 26 pills a day due to a prev. heart attack, am disabled from it. now the doc said i have a staff infection in the elbow and prescribed this antibiotic to take, looks like it is working so far, i also after 2 pills have had no side effects, i sure hope this clears up the infection in my arm at the elbow, elbow is very painful will post back if i have any problems like what you all are having . i take so many pills as it is and shots of insulin five times a day.
i hope you all have help with your meds, and that if this does not work they give you something else,
oh my father could not take a sulfa in any medication, i hope it did not pass down to me, i do not want an operation. good luck all

I'm taking this for a UTI. The doctor said it was pretty bad because I waited forever to go to the doctor (I didn't go because I hardly had any symptoms and no pain whatsoever). Anyway, I'm on it twice a day for 5 days and I have 3 pills left. I have not had ANY side effects at all! I'm surprised at what most of you have been saying. Nightmares?! Geez. I was told to eat before taking this, maybe that's why some of you are having stomach problems. The back pain and nightmares, who knows.

well in my last post i hoped i would not have any of the effect like others had in their postings, well so far so good no side effects at all except the healing of the staff infection in my elbow and area on my arm that had swelled up. oh and yes i took this med with food and did not drink any beer and other brews, hope all will have no more problems.

i am still on this med again, first time no problems, now i have bowel pain, hard to pass stools, back and hip pain. i see the bursa doctor this week, but i am stopping this medicine today, hopefully i will be on my thrown again telling my little friends to swim

I was treated for a UTI they gave me bactrim i think and right after i took that i felt 100% better the only symptom i had was the urge to pee every 5 min. They did a culture and told me to stop taking this med and gave me something strong which was this sulfamethoxazole for a Staph infection. Which they didnt tell me anything about... like how i would have got this infection and how seriouse it can be. I need answers to whats going on with my body?

This is my 3rd day of taking it for what I think is a sinus infection, - which I'd always thought was a cold/flu and always tried to let it "take its course" - but after 4 weeks, I went to the doctor.

I have some good reactions from this drug,...I feel my sinus (cold/flu) clearing up, am spitting out mucus, the fogginess in my head seems to be going away, and for the first time in a long time, I feel I just may be able to "smell" again. The only negative I feel - so far - is that when you first take the pill, - you get very tired, but I haven't noticed that the tiredness lasts very long.

I've been taking this drug for cellulitis for 4 days and wanted to know what is a good drug that works just as good as this one but without the side effects. Because they are killing me even though this antibiotic does work well for my cellulitis infection on my leg it is making me so sick. Severe headaches, my back hurts as well as my neck, legs arms feet and hands. I want to heal my infection just dont want to be so sick while doing so.

It was prescribed to me for gang green in my thumb. I started taking it Sept 8 and took my last pills(2 in AM & 2 in PM) the evening of Sept 13. I have had an upset stomach, been jittery, couldn't sleep, low back pain and very weak. Having had my prostate removed, 39 ratiation treatments and on quarterly hormone injections all this year. This scared me and my wife. The thumb is better and hopefully I will be soon.

I am also taking sulfamethoxazole tmp ds for a staph infection. My doctor also prescribed Tylenol 3 with codein for my severe headaches. The staph I have is on my face between my eyes. Haven't had any side effects yet. But nothing can be as bad as the headaches I have. I've only taken it for one day and the swelling on my face, especially my eyes have gone down.

I am also taking sulfamethoxazole tmp ds tabqua for a skin infection. The skin infection is goping away. Haven't had any side effects althogh I am taking percocet for other reason-hence no headaches I've only taken it for three out of seven days.

I am taking this for a staph skin infection. The first couple days i was told to take two in the morning and two at night. i have felt nautious/ dizzy. hot, shaky, absolutely no appetite, and very tired. cant wait to get off. it is working to clear up the infection, though

I have taken Bactrim, the brand name for what you are all talking about and developed an allergy. The very last time I took it, about 10 years ago, I got jittery, spacey, and developed intense body itching! Might check with doc to see if you are developing an allergy to it. Allergies/reactions occur in different ways to different people. Now I am limited even more in what antibiotics I can take as I am allergic to Levaquin and Penicillins as well!
