Sulfameth Tmp For Acne?

My dermatologist prescribed me Sulfameth Tmp for acne. Is this typical? Also, since I've been taking this I've had trouble with sleep (waking up every hour, thinking I have to go to work, or stress related waking up) But I also had quit smoking & work two jobs so I'm not sure if it's that or the pills? Anyone know side effects and if this antibiotic is typical prescription for acne?

As of the time I am reading this post in 2013, this medication is no longer commonly prescribed for acne for two reasons.

The first is that it is one of the few that is still effective at treating MRSA, thus caution has to be taken so that it's not overprescribed, to try to avoid someone developing antibiotic resistance.

And the second reason is due to the fact that it is a sulfa based antibiotic, so it can cause some problematic side effects and a large percentage of people may be allergic to it.

The regular side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

However, hives may be signs of an allergy, so anyone who develops them should seek medical attention immediately.
