Suboxone Use, Need Help Getting Off
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on suboxone for over 2 years now. I have attempted several times to stop using them but I haven't been successful. I take 1-2mg a day. I have tried weening more than that but suffered terrible withdrawals. I would like to know if anyone has been successful at this or have found another way to stop using suboxone. I thought this was a miracle drug for opioid dependency but its worse than opioid addiction.

Hi, I was in rehab in 2011 for poly drug use at 27. They only had me on 8mg a day of suboxone..... and in 2 weeks they weened me off.... without one bit of withdrawl. There are little ways that can get u through the first two days of nothing after tapering the correct way. You can find it online . But when it was my first day off suboxone while in rehab ......they gave me a 800mg Ibprofin, twice a day til I left 2 weeks later. For some reason a mixture of being 100 percent sober , w 3 meals a day, ibuprofen and multivitamins caused me to feel no sweats, chills, throwing up, .....I felt nothing and it seemed like I never even took it....so jus know you can try that but I got all the way down to .5 mg of subs the last 3 days off the weening process, then they got me down to .25mg for 3 more days ...with is an 8th of a 2mg pill. Literally nothing. So hopefully that helps. I have adhd so, if you don’t understand . Sorry

You’re going to just have to go through it. Yes, this will probably be worse than if you had just weaned off the drugs.

I would def check with your doc...your sub doc. My sub doc was going to transfer and no other doc available to prescribe sub so my options were taper with my last refill of 60 for the month or get on the 3 drug combo. One drug is klonipin and I forget the other 2. But by u not mentioning a doc I'm thinking you are on sub out of fear of your opiate addiction. So in all honesty you need a doctor. Think about how long u did the drugs, well your sobriety is gonna be 100 times as long. It's not easy but it beats the hell out of selling your soul to use drugs everyday. Suboxone saved my life. I am a dad now, a good friend now, and a trustworthy significant other. Anyone who says suboxone is "wrong" is not using it correctly. Good luck. I will say even though it may be painful and a total mind blowing I can't take this anymore situation getting off of it...2 things 1. It can not kill you to stop taking it. 2. Others have done it so you can as well.

You are right at the dosage levels where it gets hard. 16mg down to 4mg, and then even to 2mg/day is usually easy. I went from 2mg to 1mg without a problem, where I've been for a year. For some reason, 1mg to zero is a BIG jump, and will be very painful. I hope you are on the strips, because the solution is a SLOWWW taper from 1mg down to 0.128 (1/8th), and then people find skipping days helps. Skip a day every 7 days. Then skip a day after every 6 days, then every 5,4,3,2 (every other day), then...jump. People say this works. 0.125mg is 1/16 of a 2mg strip, and looks like a joke. Someone said he puts it between his upper gun and teeth, so he doesn't accidentally swallow it. But even jumping from 1/8 of a milligram, appears to cause some pain. So...just because you can go from 16mg/day down to 1 or 2mg/day pretty easily, DO NOT think that 1mg to zero will be easy. And DO NOT jump to zero from 1 or 2mg. Or you'll be hurting for a couple of weeks.

I've done the suboxone merrygoround before and stopped until I started taking kratom and then back to opiates. I like many found its cake until dropping below 2 mgs a day people on here saying they take 16 or even 8 you don't need that much even going from 8 to 2 mgs only takes a couple days of discomfort and that's not just me a half a dozen of my friends agree so if u can't go to 2mgs a day without a huge problem God bless you because you're in for a war

Eager,
I'm going to give it to you real from my own experience. I started taking suboxone 6 years ago, have been on it ever since. 16mg/day was the dose I was on forever. Long story short, I decided I wanted to TRY and get off this stuff, so I tapered down to 1mg/day just like you. I got down to that dose in early June of this year. On July 19th at 8:00 am was my last dose. It has been a LONG and painful 9 days. But it's getting better. The stuff it strong, there is no 2 ways about it, and you and I are dependent on it. I have been taking Aleve during the day and melatonin for sleeping at night. Still no pick nick. I've been rocking and rolling and my legs have a terrible restlessness. But here's the good news, I'm getting better every day. You CAN do it. It's a will power thing. Be a soldier and don't feel sorry for yourself. I'm 28 and have been addicted to pain killers or suboxone for All of my adult life. I have always lived in fear of withdrawals as long as I can remember.

It's tough, but if you put your mind to it, you CAN do it and the pain WILL get better. I'm far from out of the woods but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. And I feel the same way that you do, I could have sucked up a 3 day WD from oxy and never had to deal with this. But then I think.... Omg where would my life be if I didn't have suboxone. Either way, coulda shoulda woulda's won't help. Keep your chin up, you've made it this far. Pick your direction and don't look back. Good luck and GOD bless you.

Feel free to write me back if you want more details.

From what I can tell based on your description, I would honestly consider asking a pain clinic for assistance in tapering, since it seems to effect you so significantly. Just keep in mind that you definitely aren't alone on this matter.

There are quite a few threads posted here with individuals trying to withdrawal from this dangerous drug. In the meantime you may wish to check out a few of them and communicate with those who are also going through a similar situation:

If I were to offer any other advice, it would be to cut your current dose by a fraction for a given number of days before you feel comfortable lowering it again.

I hope this helps
