Suboxone Laws In Alabama. Chronic Pain
UpdatedI have been prescribed Suboxone for 6+ years after choosing to come off traditional opioid pain medications for chronic pain. I have also been prescribed Adderall for many years for ADD. My current physician (as well as others I have contacted who prescribe Suboxone in my area) is telling me that he cannot prescribe Suboxone for pain. He acknowledges that I have never abused drugs, but says that he "has" to put it on paper that he is treating me for opioid dependency. I am required to go to meetings. Now he is telling me that because of new laws in Alabama, he will no longer be able to prescribe my Klonopin. He has never given my Adderall which makes my life so much harder. He admitted when I last saw him that he would prescribe the Adderall if I were being treated with traditional opiates. I'm very confused about this. I have researched online and cannot find any information about this. I'm even willing to travel out of state if I can find a physician who can treat me with the medications I need. I am beginning to feel that my only option is to go back to traditional opioid medications and I do not want this. Does anyone know about the "new laws" in Alabama? Does anyone have any suggestions? I also saw a doctor for about 6 months that was weaning me off both the Suboxone and Klonopin, but my chronic pain is too severe for me to function without some kind of medication. Before ever deciding to accept being prescribed opiates, I was prescribed Lyrica, Savella, Neurontin, Cymbalta and several others. Some helped for a short time, but I exhausted all of my options before reluctantly deciding to take the opiate pain medications. As I mentioned earlier, I chose to go to a doctor for Suboxone after doing research about how well it works for chronic pain vs traditional opioids, and how it was widely used in Europe for at least a decade as a first resort for chronic pain. I have never had a drug problem. I am not an addict. I'm simply disabled and a mother trying to get through day to day life. Any help is most appreciated.
