Suboxone Does Not Show Up As An Opiate (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I wanna say first Im not on here tryin to be a dr people are gettin the wrong idea but unfortunately i have been on the medication for almost 5 yrs bc of shady drs(but thats another story) an know alot about the drug an thats why i am on here to try to help out others. When it comes to drug testing Suboxone does not show up as an opiate it doesn show up at all, when you go to the Dr they use a certain test that tests specifically for Suboxone.Suboxone is under the opiate category but is not actually an opiate if that makes sense, when a drug is put out on the market it has to be under a category whether its opiate, benzos, etc,so they put it under opiates, but since it really isnt an opiate it does not show up as an opiate in a drug test, its kind of complicated but if you discuss it with your dr he'll be able to explain it better

I am prescribed suboxone and I have been doing really great about not needing any pills. Every once in a while i won't be able to stand the urge and just have to do one even though I've had a sub that day. Since the sub's are an opiate blocker will the pill show up in the drug test or does the sub counteract it?

The reason for that may be those medications are LONG ACTING, adn their "half life" is longer. Therefore, depending on how much and how often they were used, they may be in the system longer than any other regular OPIOID (heroin)

It's an OPIOID not an opiet

NO YOU WILL NOT TEST POSITIVE! BE ASSURED. Did a 10 panel two weeks ago. Unless you want to spend your hard earned money for a over the counter Drug test needlessly. They would have to test for That DRUG specifically! As IN "They are looking for a needle in a haystack" OH Forgot to Say: Passed my EMT In Shelby County Tennessee!

There is a LOT of wrong information here! Hopefully I can set most of it right!

While suboxone does contain buprenorphine, which IS an opiate, it does not show up on standard 5 or 10 panel drug test as an opiate because the opiate panel on a drug test is only testing for morphine metabolites, which means it tests for morphine, heroin, and codeine use.

That said, buprenorphine can be tested for under its own panel (usually abbreviated BUP) but I've never seen a 5 or 10 panel test that included BUP as one of the panels. It usually needs to be added as a seperate test, however some 12+ panel tests DO include a buprenorphine.

Oxycodone, hydrocodone, oxymorphone, hydromorphone also will NOT show up under the standard opiate panel, but many drug tests include specific panels for these drugs so they are in fact tested for, just not under the standard opiate panel.

Methadone is another opiate that needs a special test, but is becoming more and more commonly tested for.

Buprenorphine is becoming more common to be tested for, but its still relatively rare. The only organization I've heard of that includes buprenorphine in its standard tests is probation officers.

So, will you test positive for buprenorphine? It depends on the test and when you last took it! If the test doesnt include a BUP panel, then you will be fine. If it does, you will need at least a few days of absiinence for it to clear your system, if you are using 8mg or more daily I would expect you to need at least a week of abstinence to test positive.

In rare cases, suboxone can give a false positive for oxycodone. This is because the naloxone in suboxone is metabolized into the same metabolite that is tested for in the oxycodone panel! The amount of naloxone in suboxone is small and not well absorbed, which is why false positives for oxycodone are rare. Explaining this result will require you to admit to suboxone use as even the confirmation test will come back positive since the metabolite is the same. You can try saying you used your friend's emergency narcan syringe (sometimes, naloxone is given to family and friends of addicts to counteract an overdose) but proving that may also be difficult, and you will likely need to provide them with studies showing that naloxone is metabolized into the same metabolite as OXY because its not a well known fact.

It does not show up as an opiate because the opiate panel on a drug test is testing for morphine metabolites which come from morphine, codeine, and heroin.

Other opiates need specialized panels.

I've been on suboxone for only a month now & have not taken any Percocet or Vicodin since getting on the suboxone, I've passed every urine screen at my suboxone Drs office, however, went to see my drug counselor today & she pulled a random on me in which I was confident of passing as I've really not taken anything but the meds prescribed (suboxone, celexa, amtryptalene), the test she gave me tests for everything, of course it showed suboxone in my system, but also showed oxy's in my system? How is this possible? I'm beating myself up for an answer considering I haven't taken oxy's in well over a month! Please, someone tell me how this is humanly possible?

Mine did too! I've always passed drug screens at my suboxone Drs office, today I took my first drug screen for my counselor & it showed up as opiates & suboxone, but I haven't been on any opiates, how is it possible I failed for them?

I had a urine test at probation today and the said suboxone showed up? I never took heroine or pain meds or suboxone so why did it come up?

I am on parole and have been tested many times with suboxone in my system and it never came up as an opiate

Something is going on that the vast majority of people here who think they know, don't know about. I was just tested today on a 9-10 panel at my work, and tested "mildly positive" for oxy. I'm on suboxone and haven't done oxy in over 5 years. The nurse agreed to let it go as negative because the line faintly came in after like 10 minutes, but he was ready to send to the lab.

Coincidence that your story and mine are virtually identical? I'm thinking not.

I haven't taken an opiate of any sort besides subs for over a year. JUST had a pre-employment 12 panel screen show positive for "Oxy" what the hell?! So yes it can show positive for opiates. I'm here to tell you first hand. And I put it on everything I love that I haven't touched an opiate in a very long time!

As the person above mentioned, suboxone can show up under a test for oxy, and here's why.

The nalaxone breaks down into metabolites, one of which is called norbuprenorphine, which coincidentally is the same metabolite oxycodone breaks down into.

Not only that but the buprenorphine itself also breaks down into a small amount of norbuprenorphine.

If your drug test specifically tests for oxycodone, there is a chance you can test false positive depending on how much suboxone you take, when you took it last, and your own body. Chances are if it does show up it will be faint, but know ahead of time.

There was a clinical trial done which proves this:

Actually it's an opioid, not an opiate.

There is a difference.

I too am on probation and im on suboxone and my text came up for something oxy and of course he didnt believe me when i told him i haven't took anything. but i haven't done nothing in over a year. I left their nerves not knowing why cause i know for a fact i havent. Waiting on lab work to come back.

We aren't talking about tests at a doctors office. Or tests that get sent to a lab. Rapid 9 panels, DO show up as not just opiates, but as oxycodone. Believe me or not, I've been on subs for over 3 years. 90% of the rapid 9 panels I've taken, I do test positive and I DO NOT take anything but subs... So in a sense, you're wrong. See below, someone posted why this happens. There was an fda study done because there were so many issues of this happening. And it metabolizes the same way in your body as oxycodone. Just FYI.

Suboxone does not show up as an opiate or oxycodone or oxycotin. Possibly your daughter still has some in her system. What do the doctors say? What is the half life of those medications and how long do they stay in your system is all affected by how much you took and how much was built up in your system.

No it will not. It has to be a bupe test. Subs will not show as a opiate
