Suboxone Advice/how Long On/dizziness/headaches?????
UpdatedHi,
Just started on suboxone yesterday and had a couple questions.. Started abusing lortabs about 6 years ago after several failed surgeries... About a year ago, I switched to 30mg roxys..... in April I Did 28 days in rehab, stayed clean about a month before relapsing... About a month or two ago, I started doing the dreaded "H" because of the cost. Was doing about a point or two a day sometimes alone and sometimes I'd take a few roxys with it.. Anyway, did last of the H (a point) on Saturday (today is Wednesday) and 2 roxys on Monday.. Was able to get 5 - 8mg sub strips and took about 2.5 mgs of one strip last night around 6:00. Was soooo scared about precipitated withdrawals so I waited a full 25 hrs after last roxy before I took strip. It was definitely hell waiting it out but I'm so glad i did (and so glad the dope guy wasn't around because I was so close to saying f**** this, I'll do a couple roxys now and start subs tomorrow....). Within 20 minutes of taking 2mg of strip I felt like a new person! All wd symptoms were gone.... About 6 hrs later I took another 2 mg.... Got a good nights sleep.. Anyway, sorry to ramble but here are my questions.. I did get a slight headache about 30 minutes after my first dose.... Which is a very small inconvenience compared to withdrawal!! Didn't even take anything for it but is this common? And although I slept great, I felt a little dizzy getting up and for about 30 minutes after waking up....started feeling some withdrawals coming back around 2 PM (about 15 hours after last dose) so took another 2 mg... My guess is I will probably need another 2mg before night is over which will be 4 mgs a day for first two days and here is the main question... Should 4 mgs a day be enough since I just started??? I don't want to resort to the old behavior of feeling a LITTLE bad and take something!!! If so, how long should I stay on 4mg before trying to taper down? My fear is not staying on subs long enough but also staying on for too long!! I don't want to replace one addiction with another! Sorry for long post but any advice is appreciated!! Happy New Year!

Hello, Mobay! How are you?
Suboxone is listed by the FDA as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. And yes, they can also cause headaches, as side effects.
The appropriate dosage, however, depends on how much of the drug of abuse was being taken, it can vary from person to person. It's individualized to a dosage that stabilizes each person. Some people need much higher than 4mgs and some need lower dosages. You should follow your doctor's advice.
The length of treatment is also highly individualized, with some people requiring years and some just a few months, there are just no hard and fast rules for it that I can tell you.
How are you feeling?
