What is the difference between suboxone and methadone?

The active ingredients are very different, though both are opiate based and are used to treat severe pain as well as addiction.

Dear Comments Submitted, Verwon is right, they r both opiate based. But the methadone helps much better with pain. (Believe me) I've been on both. After almost 5 years on methadone, I had 2 go on subs. Thought i was all set tapering down from methadone. Couldn't take the withdrawals or the pain. I went from 110mg to 24mg, then, I lost it. Anyway, like I said, methadone does work better 4 pain. They r both addictive. The good thing about subs is u don't have 2 go 2 a clinic, everyday. U find a good Dr and get take homes.

i have been on both methadone and suboxone and they are very diffrent methadone is pretty much synthetic H and is reallly supposed to be used for people with chronic pain which is severe..it works though as a pain med and also has a blocker in it so that u cant feel any other opiates on it believe me i have tried it all it will take your pain away if u take an opiate but u wont feel high off of it no matter how many u take lol im on suboxone now and have been for 3-4 years and i like it alot better u actually feel normal on it and its not an opiate it is though a controlled substance of coarse but its made of naloxone and bupenorphine u can look it up and it has no pain meds in it what so ever and it wont help any pain the pain it takes away is wihdraw pain thats it but hope this helps u feel free to ask anything

I have finished my Dilaudid and know I will be sick in morning. I have a 2 mg of Suboxone and very small amount of Methadone. If the Suboxone doesn't provide relief, can I take the small amount of Methadone ??? Can not afford to be sick because would have to ride out and have nothing else! Does anyone have an answer about both the Methadone and Suboxen but small doses? Or which will be the most successful if have to choose one?

I take methadone but want to know if I were to also take a suboxone (AN 415) pill, if it would block or make me sick from mixing the two?

I think all of the Methadone, Suboxone, etc., are all habit forming and it's just trading one addiction for another.
