Suboxone And Fentanyl

Hi, my name is Rebecca. I have been using opiates for about 3 years now, but I've only been addicted to opiates for a year now. I say opiates but I go back and forth between opiates and suboxone. For the past year I have been using suboxone almost everyday(supplied by boyfriend) and he does it too. Last week my boyfriend and I went through a nasty breakup and he hasn't been giving me anymore suboxone or using it himself either. We were together 5 years and were happy(I'm absolutely devastated.) snd we also LIVE TOGETHER. however, I could go on about what's been going on in the relationship and how upset I have been, and him just going out and partying like nothing happened, but that's not why I'm typing this. So back to last week, we broke up and quit taking suboxone. Just stopped suddenly after the break up. I was ok for two days after stopping and then the serious withdrawals started kicking in. I was almost completely thru detox and my boyfriend(or ex now) got us 5-50 mcg fentanyl patches and I've been doing them everyday(in portions) but today we ran out and I'm so depressed and hurting. My body aches and I just can't stop crying. It makes it worse when I'm going thru all this and on top of everything my finals are also next week :(. So my question is: did the fentanyl patches kick the withdrawal process in? And should I have not done them?

First of all, I know you aren't prescribed both Suboxone and Fentanyl. Fentanyl is the ONLY drug that will break through the buprenorphine/naloxone at your opiate receptors. I know this because I was recently given Fentanyl while on buprenorphine for a procedure. You would only go into precipitated withdrawals if you take Suboxone too soon after stopping the Fentanyl patch if you weren't taking both at the same time. If you were already on buprenorphine (either Suboxone or Subutex) the buprenorphine would simply take back over once the Fentanyl has been released in your brain and metabolized. It would take a lethal amount of Fentanyl for you to feel high while taking buprenorphine though, and I wouldn't recommend taking both unless you are under a doctor's care!! Playing with it recreationally (i.e. Not prescribed by your doctor whether you are taking it for fun or for pain) is extremely dangerous!!! I personally know 4 people who have died as a result of an opiate OD...2 of those were from Fentanyl!! Please, if you care about yourself at all, put yourself in a treatment program or under a doctor's care!!! You are playing with FIRE and you will get burned!!! Think of it like the old saying about motorcycle riders...there are 2 kinds of riders--those who have been down, and those who are going!!!
I've found that the patch can be useful even before the suboxone half life is up. Obviously you need to be careful everyone's body reacts differently. Also I've been taking suboxone for years and have mixed it with percoset, vicodin, etc hoping to feel something and while it is pointless to that I have NEVER EVER experienced precipitated withdrawal.
Hi, I took a 8mg suboxen film strip and my question is can I use a fentanol patch for my back pain? Plz help. Wil I die?
don't mix anything with suboxone, if u take it stay off other opioids for 24 hrs otherwise I'll end up going through precipitated withdraws it's not fun
1 I been on Methadone 40yrs and now last yr detoxed, and I use fentanyl 100mg for pain now I am off Methadone and what you are describing is a opiate withdrawal pain in legs and bones ache and taking fentanly is like methadone as it comes out of body it aches the bones depression very powerful drug both if there is a pain management, in your town or city tell the dr and bring you down slower if you desire to come off or lay in bed and ride it out but it takes some time to do even a few days on it you got surboxen and fentanly to come out of body and time heals all wounds i am 66yrs old been married 45yrs and I know the pain of relationship and breaking up i met my husband after a painful break-up who I believed I was in love till I met the man I was to have a life with time just like drugs it wears down after a awhile, and then you will feel better. give yourself time...God Bless
Hi Rebecca,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Since you are trying to withdraw from Opiates and/or Suboxone, I would also stay away from any other prescription medication. It is very possible that the Fentanyl patches threw your body off course and stopped the withdrawal process. Right now your body needs to heal and learn how to work properly without the medication.
Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables while staying hydrated throughout the day will significantly aid your body in detoxing quicker. Besides getting plenty of rest each night I'd also recommend getting at least an hour each day of exercise in to help sweat out any toxins and get your lymphatic system flowing (which will significantly aid in detoxification as well).
I hope this info helps!
