Strange Side Effects?

I've been on celexa for roughly about 3-4 weeks, I've been talking a little in my sleep and I'm very jumpy. I've also been having vivid nightmares. I take 20mg in the morning.. I'm kinda worried about the jumpiness I get scared so easily! Someone can walk up behind me and I can know their behind me (most of the time) turn around and still get scared!

Hello, Gale! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having.

SSRI antidepressants, such as Celexa, are listed by the FDA as being known to cause REM onset latency, which explains the odd sleep issues. It can also cause some anxiety for awhile, while your body is getting used to the medication.

The good news is that such side effects are usually transient and tend to go away anywhere between 3 to 6 weeks of us, depending on your body. You may also experience dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain.

If they don't improve after about 6 weeks, you should contact your doctor, as it may not be the right medication for you. If you start to experience suicidal thoughts, then seek medical attention immediately.
