Stopping Xarelto (Page 3)

I have been instructed to stop my 20mg a day after being on it for 6 months (2 PE's one in each lung at Xmas) and I have to say I am really worried and every little pain I think its come back. I have another 3 weeks to go until I got for a blood test to see if I am prone to clots however I am completely paranoid. Anyone else had the same feelings....as the meds have been my comfort blanket for so long.....

yes you do need a new haematologist. They should put you on AntiCoagulants for life as a precaution. I was given the option not told I'm coming off it, especially as you are flying a lot you should 100% be on anti-coat's if you've had not one but 2 DVT's.

I too was instructed to take xarelto for 6 mo after my PE diagnosis. my evaluations came back negative and was not prone to clots, it was just a freak thing that happened as my legs were clean in ultra sound. I took xarelto for about 8 months. The only real side effect I experienced was fatigue. It seems to have done its job. I do have some pain from time to time in my lung where PE was. I guess it's just the permanent damage it did. I have to admit though that the thought is always in the back of my head, what if it comes back. Dr said there was no in between; it was positive or negative period as far as being prone to producing clots. That being said its still a little scary stopping the thinner but when on it I was always afraid of being cut taking a fall, a hard hit for fear of bleeding out etc etc. I live on a ranch so it's a daily risk lol. My ONLY concern now is its been 5 mo since I've been off and about 3 weeks ago I got hit in the bean pretty hard, bled quite a bit and about 1 week ago I started to have pretty bad headaches. Anyone have feedback?

Go as fast as you can get there to emergency room. Liam Neeson's wife hit her head when skiing. Natasha Ricardson Neeson went to doctor and he said she was Ok. They did not do a brain scan. She had a headache later the next day and she did not go back because dr. Said she was OK. She had a slow bleed and she went into a coma and died. I don't want to scare you but demand a CAT SCAN OR MRI ON YOUR BRAIN. BETTER TO BE ON SAFE SIDE. PLEASE GO. GOD BLESS YOU AND I HOPE IT IS NOTHING. BUT GO! Angelina

I seached and found so many side effects that ihave are not in my mind. Like warm inside slight burningfeet. And burning pooh and burning urinationand stomach and throat and acid refkex and mucous buildup in throat. They found a dvt inback of knee. July 10 started the zorelto run. 2 for3weeks. Then 20 daily horrible. What to do?

How can I stop? I have just finished the 21 days of 15mg. I have only been on 20mg about a week. Can I stop it slowly like an opposition withdraw or should I stop it all at once? My leg is no longer swollen due to blood clots I believe came due to injected testosterone. I have stopped that slowly also . Now I want off Xarelto .i will start a natural blood thinner like natti. Xarelto scares me more than the risk of clots!

Due to debilitating pain and swelling in my feet toes ankles fingers, hands and red white and blue skin. I don't care anymore. No doctors believe I'm having that much pain from xrrelto. I've been on it 5 months for DVT in armpit. I'm stopping today.

I've been on Xarelto for 10 months for unprovoked PE. I was diagnosed with Heterozygous Factor V Leiden...surprise at age 47! I felt terrible from the beginning of taking Xarelto. Doctors defended the drug completely, saying it was recovering from PE. Well, months later I have burning, blurry vision, fatigue and high anxiety. Six days ago I discontinued Xarelto....still feel weird and inflamed. And NOW paranoid of reoccurrence! My doc says no withdrawal with Xarelto...it's me. I feel hopeless and lost.

Maybe see a different hematologist and take 81mg aspirin low dose until you do? There r other alternatives out there besides Xarelto too. Good luck!

My husband is taking the same thing and he is prone to blood clots he went off of it for 3 days just for dental work and he had a blood clot form i his leg that quick . All the Docs now say he is one it for life and cant go off. It is definitely scary, I feel your pressure and pain on this one. .

I stopped my xeralto 5 days ago and started on Nattokinase immediately! I was extremely worried also . Had three clots in my right upper leg and no reason why???? Any way after starting the nattokinase I feel better than ever ! I ate fresh pineapple while on xeralto (a natural clot reducer )along with daily vitamins as soon as I learned I had blood clots and will keep that in my diet always! I pray it helps me never get another clot but xeralto caused me to have depression and panic attacks that were horrible! Along with the fear of internal non stoppable bleeding. When I first stopped xeralto every pain I had I was afraid of bad consequences also , but the docs just say ok, time to stop the xeralto! I thought it would be a slow withdraw ,,, but nope! Libwas on zorelto for abdvt in leg . Had a doppler study after 3 months. Dvt dissolved. On zorelto again. The side effects are happening just like the lasttimr . Horrible back pain burning urine and burn in bowel movement. Hortible. Can i just go offZorelto .

Hopefully this helps people coming off. I hated taking the stuff and worried about bleeding to death every time I picked up a knife to even peel an onion. My scan showed the clot had desolved and coming off I was so worried my Clot would come back but I'm off it 6 months now without a problem. Once in a while I take oregano oil which is a natural blood thinner just to feel safe. Feels great not to be taking the drugs anymore.

Been on them since 2012. Two blood clots each lung. Still taking blood thinners because they don't know what caused the clots. But am thinking about stopping them. I two am scared of the clots returning . It wasn't fun having them. Drs want to stop the meds too so I understand what you mean....

I was on Xarelto for 10 months and ever since I have had chronic red, burning eyes, strange buzzing like inflammation in every cell of my body, my head feels like it's stuffed with cotton, cannot tolerate alcohol, I have half the energy as I did before taking this drug. I've discontinued Xarelto now for six weeks....no change in symptoms. My Hematologist ran every daignostic imaginable and found nothing. She told me that it could be result of taking Xarelto, no one knows long term side effects as it's a new drug. I'm 48 years old and I feel like an old woman! I've come to terms with the fact that this is my new normal .....and it's devastating! Xarelto should be banned and there is no antidote to boot...poison!

Yes Emma, I have the same worries, I'm prone to blood clots, so I'm on it for the rest of my life. Just gotta get through it day by day.

I'm trying to find a more natural blood thinner. Obviously there are serious side effects from this xarelto. My Dr. doesn't admit it either, but I am worries about just stopping it cold turkey, I've been on it for 1 yr know, once a day, scary stuff. Any suggestions from anyone

i fell the same way. i feel like when they see me coming they say, here comes that nut again. if they had to go through it they would think different about it. does anyone know the withdraws when stopping it?

I took Nattokinase a few years ago and it got rid of my dvt within weeks. I foolishly quit taking the natto. I am on Eliquis from a clot in my lung , I hate the side effects. How long did you take the xarelto before going on Nattokinase and how did you make the change did you take it when you were due to take the xarelto or wait ? I want to stop this Eliquis now, just not sure how to get back on the nattokinase. My Dr is having no part in helping me , even after seeing natto get rid of my dvt.
