Stopping Brintellix After 3 Months

Hello, I hope someone can help me as my psychiatrist is not much help. I was on Brintellix 5mg for about a month my Dr then moved me up to 10mg and I have been on that dosage for 2 months. So a total of about 3 months. At first I thought it was working and was feeling good about it, recently I have had some major stress in my life and I really think it is making things worse than better. I have also gained about 25 pounds in 3 months, I have severe run to the bathroom diarrhea and I am constantly sweating for no reason. My question since I have only been on it for 3 months would I need to taper or could I just stop taking it? I am very concerned with withdrawal symptoms after I had read that they can be severe. My insurance is still pending approval as well, my PCP has been helping me out with samples as well because of the price. I just really want of this medication. Has anyone heard or themselves stopped taking Brintellix cold turkey after 3 months? Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide any insight.

BTW there are coupons for it and you can get a 90 day prescription which is cheaper
I also have the sweating but this seems to be the only side effect I experience. Are you taking it the same time of day, did you recently get dosage increased?
Just wanted to give a update on coming off Brintellix after being on it for about 3 months. I was only on 10mg. I took one of those & cut it in half I took two 5mgs for two days. I was going to do that for another few days but I decided to just not take it & see what happened. Well it worked I had a bit of anxiety for about two days, nothing bad at all. I suffer from anxiety & I would rate it a 3 out of 10 with 10 being the worst. So it's over I'm off Brintellix & feel good. I am going to speak with my Dr about another antidepressant but for now I'm just happy I'm off it. Hope this helps if anyone has the same issue that I had.
Thanks!
Hi Verwon,
Thank you for the advice. Yes I have been on other medications mostly SSRI's and SSNRI's they give me horrible side effects usually wanting to end my life after one dose. My doctor thought this would help and it hasn't. I do not want to end my life in any way, that's just what the other meds made me like. I have tried Elivil (not sure if I spelled correctly) and that has helped but my physiatrist will not prescribe to me because of other meds that I take. Yesterday and today I cut my 10mg Brintellix in half and I feel ok, I am on clonazapan as well 3 times a day that does help my anxiety to a point. How long do you think I should taper the Brintellix? I don't see my physiatrist until January and trying to get ahold of him is about pointless. I thank you for responding to my question, that was very kind of you.
Hello, Lola! How are you?
Yes, tapering it would be best, to avoid the worst of the withdrawal symptoms. The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including dizziness, headache, chills, rebound depression, rebound anxiety and pain.
Have you tried any alternative medications?
