Stopped Taking Fluoxetine 20mg A Week Ago (Top voted first)
UpdatedI took Fluoxetine for 3 weeks last month. The side effects were too unbearable to manage. Every single day I felt nausea, dizzy, foggy headed, blurred vision, more anxious and panicky as ever, constantly tired all the time, bad insomnia, and rapid heart rate.
I decided at week 4 to quit cold turkey. I noticed after a few days of not taking the med, I surprisingly felt better. I haven't so far experienced any withdrawal symptoms. My energy has returned, most of my side effects has gone away, and for some reason I'm functioning well without it.
It's weird, but I think it's a blessing.
Now what is weird to me is that I let my doctor know that I quit the med. I told her what I experienced everyday taking the med, and that I just couldn't take it anymore. Of course she advised against it and told me to continue taking it. Not only that she upped the dosage to 40mg. This is absolutely crazy!! I told her I don't really need any meds because I don't have severe anxiety, and I'm not depressed. I told her I feel better without any meds, why keep taking it? Why up my dosage. Well call me stubborn, because I did not proceed to take the med, especially if I know I'm doing well without it.
I wonder what is her reason, I tell her things about what the med does to me verses how I feel without it, and she still ignores me. When I ask her how long do I need to take the med before quitting she tells me don't think about it, just keep taking it. I felt like a lab rat or something. Is she gaining something by prescribing this med? Just my thought. But, anyway still not going to take it.
Anybody else in the same boat?

Why was it prescribed for you to begin with? There has to be some reason your doctor told you to start taking it. This is a generic for Prozac, so even if it were legal and possible, no doctor would getting any kick back for prescribing it, anymore.
The symptoms you've described are listed by the FDA as being possible side effects of this medication, you may also experience weight loss.
I take it every day to alleviate perimenopause symptoms and I've found that, when I started it and whenever my dosage was raised, most side effects peaked at around 3 weeks, then gradually went away.
Hi, the reason she put me on the med is because she saw that I was having a mild onset of anxiety. I had a health scare back in December 2016. From that I worried about my health alot. So yes for a short period of time I felt a bit on edge. But, I wasn't at a point of needing medication. Maybe a counselor would have been better suited for me. Its been almost a month now since I been off fluoextine. I feel fine.
