Stopped Taking Effexor After One Year.

I started Effexor in December of 2013 after having taken Prozac for years. I had a daughter in law diagnosed in October of that year with stage 4 breast cancer. Her husband, my son, has always had money problems, no matter how much he makes. My daughter in law is a great gal, and I was really pressured to spend money I didn't have, very stressful time for a 67 year old gal. I started with the Effexor because I was having trouble sleeping, started having hot flashes again, lots of mental anxiety. Recently I started having a clanging noise in my head, bowel problems, and really irritable and depressed. I went to have several tests done, all negative for any serious disease or health problem. The financial and health problems with my son and daughter in law have been taken care of the best way possible so I should have been feeling better, not worse. The clanging in my head and dizzy spells were getting worse. I spoke to my Dr. and told him I wanted to quit the Effexor a week ago and go back on my Prozac. I stopped the Effexor and started the Prozac again. I can't believe how much better I feel after one week. It's amazing.

I am so very sorry about the problems that you had.

Yes, in your case, I suspect that the Prozac would work better, since it can also help with hot flushes and other symptoms that can be caused by imbalance hormones, as we age. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and weight loss.
