Side Effects Of Suboxone (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on suboxone now for just under a month. I think it is an amazing drug, i have had no cravings or interest in returning to opiates, my drug of choice was oxy. I get up every day feeling happy, and am able to take on what ever the day brings me. I am also on lexapro for depression at this time. There is one problem after i take my dose, which is 8 mg. twice a day, I am extremely tired sometimes to the point where if i sit down I will nod off, so I keep moving and can usually fight through it. I am wondering do other people feel this way or does it get better the longer you are on it? Two other things that are sometimes very bothersome are dizzyness and extreme dry mouth. I just wanted to find out other peoples experiences. Thanx

After 8 years of suboxone usage, to quit cold turkey was a massive mistake on my part. I am still feeling the PAWs on day 20 of being clean. Its just horrible.

Im almost 30 days clean, and the PAWS keep getting worse. I am fairly ok during the day, but the restless leg and insomnia are absolutely intolerable. Im taking Tryptophan, and Tyrosine, and Valerian Root, but only been on them for 2 days now. Not helping at all yet. Cold sweaty hands during the day is about as bad as it gets during the day, its just night time, 0 sleep, toss and turn all night. Not even 15g of Melatonin helps. Pretty sad.

Hey...yes. very proud. I was a heroin addict for 16 years. By the time I got on Suboxone, I was using 180mg of oxy plus anything up to a gram of heroin on top. I have been on 32mg of Sub for two years now...why so high a dose??? Because I know that heroin can knock sub off the receptors...using a high dose, I know I can't knock it off no matter how much I use. I a month, I'm starting to reduce the oxy. I think I'm safe enough now to be on 4-8mg per day...yes, very proud...

Very nice. 7 more days, and I will be on day 60 of being clean of everything, except vitamins :) And I could not imagine 32mg of suboxone per day. Thats insane... I know they say its not the amount of suboxone you take, but rather how many years you have been on it. But after hearing how much you were taking, Im blown away. For me, the only issue Ive had the past 50 days, Is that I cannot stop sneezing. Though its down to about 10-12 times a day now, I was up around 30 sneezes per day after I stopped suboxone. The yawning has finally vanished though, and Im grateful for that. I really do feel like I did 8+ years ago before I started taking suboxone, and before all the pain killers. I feel like a normal human being. I didnt need any meetings though I am sure it would have been alot easier for me if I had gone, but I was too sick. I never ever recommend anyone quitting cold turkey like I did. I just did not have a choice at the time, as the $ ran dry, and suboxone is expensive, as well as the doctor visits. Though $ is no longer an issue, I will never as long as I live on this earth, take suboxone, or any other pain meds again. And I feel great.

Well, the best piece of advice I can give you, so you do not have to go thru the days of hell like I did, is continue weaning/tapering. If you do that, and get down to 0.5 or 0.25mg per day of suboxone, you will not have to deal with PAWS, and very very limited withdrawls if any. I did it the wrong way, cold turkey, but I had no choice. When you cannot afford the doctor visit, nor the suboxone anymore, there is no other choice. It was 100x worse than anything I had ever experienced in my life. So do it right with the tapering. And start taking the 3 amino acids once you get down to 1/2mg per day of suboxone. I realize everyones body chemistry is different, but you have to start rebuilding those neurotransmitters in your brain that have been getting surpressed by the opiates/suboxone. In my case is was 8 years worth, which is why I experienced PAWS for so long. Actually, 34 days worth is hardly anything compared to the 8 years I was on sub. I was told it would take me maybe a year for the PAWS to finally go away. But because of the amino's, vitamins, and protein powder, I was able to make the PAWS go away much quicker. As for obamacare my family and I will not be signing up. We will pay the fine, as we have had enough hope and change for the last 5 years.

You said, "still great for Anthem" ? As in Ahthem Arizona? And as far as the chamomile tea, yes, I was taking that during those first 34 days, and though it relaxed me, there was nothing at that time that was helping me sleep, except that Trazadone, which I finished up with in 2 weeks. After that, I still could not sleep, not even 40-60MG of Melatonin worked. It was just awful. Guess my brain just shut down and quit producing Seratonin. Anyhow, at day 34, and I remember it well, it was the first time in about 34 days that I got a full 8 hours sleep. Before that it was 1 maybe 2 hours at a time, if I was lucky. Now life is back to normal, and I thank God for that

Hi, I can't believe you quit cold turkey. you're very brave. If I go even one day w/o my suboxone, I feel like crap. I've been on suboxone for about eight years and am worried about when I have to come off of it, going through withdrawal from it.

Uhh suboxone has nothing to do with methadone. They are two completely different drugs. Suboxone is bupe and naloxone. Not sure where you got this information but it's not accurate. Suboxone is now widely and successfully used in methadone treatment as well. Deathadone is finally going where it's needed to for decades, extinct.

Please only give accurate information when trying to assist others, the internet is full of gobidly goop as I'm sure you know so only get your research from credible sites or double check sources.

And although it does take quite a long time for your body to regress back to it's original state pre addiction, I doubt for other then life long H addicts it's no where close to ten years. It does take the average, daily and heavy user's opiate receptors two years to shrink back to normal size. That's why the average treatment term for suboxone maintenance is two years, longer for some, shorter for others, depending on drug usage. I'll be finished in about eighteen months, life long extreme H addicts may be on suboxone treatment the rest of their life.

I think mentally getting back to normal is the hardest. Knowing and believing you don't need ANYTHING (drugs or maintenance) to just live is the hardest part.

Ash, I no longer have a need for pain management. I have no idea how or why, but I no longer have back pain from my ruptured disks L3 and L4. Im back to umpiring and I feel fantastic. Not sure why I have no more pain in my lower back, but should I ever run into problems with pain again, I will head to disk decompression therapy. And there is no way that suboxone could still be in my system more than 90 days later, right? I mean, Ive been clean, and taking nothing but vitamins. I hike several times a week now, and get plenty of exercise while Im working. Anyways, my biggest addiction that I think Ive ever had, was the suboxone. And when the money ran out, and could not pay for the doctors visit, or the suboxone itself, I had no choice but to just quit. As much as I hate to say it, but I think it was the best thing that could have happened to me, otherwise I would still be taking subxone every single day. Whats weird, is I have had 0 desire to relapse, or even consider taking any meds. It sounds like it goes against all odds, but its very strange indeed. Maybe I created those endorphines in my brain faster than recovery time allows, I dont know. Maybe it was the 3 amino acids... I just dont know. All I know is that I am enjoying life again, and 100% pain free. Guess I am one of the extremely lucky ones. It does help ALOT that I have a great wife of 28 years, and 3 great kids in their 20s, who supported me. It might have been alot different if I did not have them.

Yes one of the side effects of suboxone is sleepiness. I feel the same way. I can fall asleep almost anywhere if I sit down. It's frustrating to me and anyone trying to hold a conversation without me nodding off. My husband hates it ! Pretty funny!tbats the only side effect that I have besides constipation but that's only in the beginning of your treatment. Suboxone saved my life and saved my family!been clean for almost 6 years ! Yayyy me

Yeah true that. I was on the subs for 2 years and your right, the doctor's will get you hooked and then you feel like you want to die coming off the meds. I hate that I ever took them now. Its been a month and a half since I last had them and I feel like crap. My eyes are so blurry and I feel so depress as well, feel like I lost all of my joy I'm not happen I get very angry very quick can't stand being around people, but though it all I thank God everyday because it could of been worse. Now I'm trying to regain my focus on life and getting myself back to normal. My only advice for anyone who are or will be taking them is not, do not take them they are not good for long term. If you need to only 3 months at the most depends on your drug of choice. Mind was Vicodin. Please people do your research before taking the subs.

I just came across this post and I want to say that I got hurt a work and was put on pain pills for about 2 years, I decided I was tired of relying on them to live my life so I tried to quit, got extremely ill. Someone told me about Sub's so I went to the dr. and started taking them, after a few month's and my savings acct. was empty I wanted to get off them, but there's a big problem getting off, that one man said start to taper and he is oh so right, it's been about 1 1/2 years now and I'm still stuck on them, I have to find them on the street cause the dr.'s visit here is $250 plus 8.50 per strip, I live on social security and cannot afford that. I know it's wrong to get them off the street but I can't get off of them. You are all feeling well now but wait till you try to get off the subs. It's mind blowing, so, so sick. I'm in my 60's been fighting this for so long, I'm so tired of all this. I hope you all have better luck than me.

The nodding for me is because the dose of suboxone was too high. Maybe try a lower dose and see how that works for you. I too believe suboxone is a great drug when used properly. I had a three level cervical fusion and was loaded down with pain meds for three months, from dilaudid then to percocets then to hydros. I wasn't able to wean down off the pain meds and didn't want to continue the road to addiction so I started the suboxone. It has been 7 days for me and each day I take a little less. I finally feel I am getting my life back!

Re: Christine (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

I was reading with a lot of concerns about people praising Suboxone/Subutex. Christine is telling the real truth. I work in a detox facility and people are coming for detox not on opioids/opiates but Suboxone and it is nasty, worse than Methadone and they experience long post acute withdrawal symptoms and some patients just dropping from 1mg to 0.5 mg experience bizarre changes in personality and can not function at all. It should be limited to detoxification and maybe brief maintenance because the withdrawal from it is nasty, especially if taking more than 6-8mg a day. Prescribers are giving more than needed to make you feel good or for you to sell it, then they request cash payment and stop billing. They are becoming the new drug dealers for a serious condition that should be managed with sobriety, responsible attitude and full functional capacity but not under the influence of a substance that is very similar to the one you are abusing, it does not make sense.

I've been on suboxone for TEN years...and please trust me when I say THAT 16MG a day is WAAAY TOO MUCH. If these doctors had any idea....I'm being totally honest here. Anyone can get by on 2mg a day! No you won't feel high or great but you will get by which to anyone who's been there ... Getting by is a WAY better alternative than withdrawals! 2mg would also be so much easier to get off of. A Dr put me on 16mg a day when I 1st went to sub Dr. I went back 2 weeks later and told him that 16mg was WAY too much. So he put me on 8mg a day.....and the years went by..month after month...all he did was write the script as fast as he could and I was gone. FINALLY about 3 months ago I decided this had to stop. So I TOLD the Dr to start tapering me off. Guess what!? He tells me that they don't learn how to TAPER SOMEONE OFF. SO I TOLD HIM TO START PRESCRIBING ME less and less each month. I'm finally down to 4mg a day. YES I guess it's better than hitting the streets, but you're trading one addiction for another. He could have put me on 2mg a day 10 years ago...There's no right answer. It's all a big scam. Just try to start cutting down asap. I promise you that I just KNOW.

Re: Kf3355705 (# 250) Expand Referenced Message

2 is actually the maintenance dose. Any more than 4 & your body just pushes it out, it's pointless to take that many. I have been on Suboxone for 10 years as well & I'm here to tell you that 1 is not always enough! I cut myself down to a half because I was taking Klonopin, but after I stopped taking those, I had to raise my dose back up to 1.75. Your post is incorrect & is worded to make people feel like what hey need is wrong & there's something wrong with them.

Congrats on getting off of subs after that long. Wish I could do that. Just don't say that u know what is best for everyone because everyone is different, everyone requires different doses to get them to the place they need to be & just because 1 worked for u, does NOT mean it's gonna work for the next person.
