Josh, nobody knows how long it will last for you. For me it was 3-4 weeks the best thing I did was started chugging water (excessively) and taking probiotics and vitamins (since I wasn't very hungry.) I noticed exercise helped, even though I had no energy... Maybe it helps sweat it out? Idk. I thought I would never feel better, but I did. Just try to take care if yourself.

Thanks Dawn, I'm trying to get over this I know its this drug in my system.

Thanks for your input at least I will try and wait it out.

before this I worked out daily and was competitive power lifter/bodybuilder.
From that to struggling to do anything sucks.

Hi Josh, It took 3-4 weeks to get the effects of Bactrim out of my system. And there may be some effects that last longer....like aches and pains....mood swings....tiredness. But they do go away. Exercise and vitamin/probiotic supplements help. Do drink lots of water. Eat right and get plenty of sleep. Be sure to tell your doctor about your effects of taking Bactrim and avoid taking it again!

OMG tried a new vet he put my little 50lb dog (Chow Chow), on Bactrim for 20 days half of a 960 mg pill twice a day, for a allergic reaction to something and an infection on his skin. After 16 days on this drug my dog is deathly sick could not get up, stand or walk on this morning (day 17) at all until about 12 hours after he last dosage. He could barely pick his head up this morning. So I looked up side effects to this bactrim/tribrissenand 960mg it seems he is suffering from what's called lameness, ( Lameness is a clinical sign of a more severe disorder that results in a disturbance in the gait and the ability to move the body about, typically in response to pain, injury, or abnormal anatomy.)

This drug should be removed from the market poor Mr. Tyson Tycoon was paralyzed for at least 6 hours that I know of. But I gave him the pill right before bed so who knows. He may have been paralyzed all night while we sleep. When he was finally able to get up he would fall over...... horrible drug!

I remember the last few days ..day 16, 15 & maybe 14 his hind end kind of fell out from under him when he was running around. I didn't give it much thought until the night before...which was the night of the 16th day. When, about 30-45 minutes after taking his pills he could not stand up right and was falling an stumbling like he was drunk!!!

Now today day 17 over14 hours after the last pill I get him, he can stand a bit on his own & walk around, but only for like 5-10 minutes then he falls over!!!!

Does anyone know how long before this horribly dangerous drug will take to wear off him?

Judi, omg that is awful that they used this drug on your dog. When I had a reaction to the drug, I went to the ER and they gave me a prednisone shot and a prescription for it, and told me to take benedryl every day for a week. It seems like the rash lasted a couple of weeks.

I started taking Bactrim about 9 days ago have 6 more days to go before being finished. In the time I have taken the meds I have had blood blisters in my mouth and just now experiencing a light rash. Have been extremely tired as well. Nausea is once in awhile but tolerable and I have not lost my appetite.

Overall not too happy with this although it could be worse from the replies I see on here. I just took Benedryl so I'm hoping it works and I can tough out the next few days.

I started taking Bactrim DS today for a possible UTI. After a few hours I began to notice that I felt itchy. I'm concerned because I received an antibiotic shot (can't remember the name and the stupid doctors never even took record of what they gave me) that also caused me to feel itchy all over. Can I ask my doc for an alternative? Are there any safe alternatives? I wouldn't even be taking antibiotics, but I started to develop a fever and back pain so I was worried about kidney involvement.

Also, what seems weird to me about this is that I have been taking a moderate dose of a sulfa drug for over a year and suffered no allergic reaction. I'm confused. :(

Ugh, it's almost been four days. Itchy and have a fever now. Not feeling too good. Don't know if it's the infection or the Bactrim. I keep getting hives on my arms and my skin is really dry. Really hope this is over soon.

I was given bactrim for a sinus/ear infection and within three hours hands where itchy and felt a burning moving up my arms. Then the bottoms of my feet. Very irritated.

This sounds exactly like the reaction I had. I today is my 6th day on it (prescribed for uti) I was doing somewhat ok until yesterday. Chills, joint/muscle aches, bloodshot eyes, and lower back pain. I called the Dr.s office and they said to stop taking it but did not say anything else. I'm scared there could be permanent damage. How well did you recover after stopping bactrim?

You will be OK as you have not taken it very long. Give it time to get it out of your system. About a week or so.

I started taking Bactrim as I have a systemic staph infection and a brown recluse spider bite too! Very concerned by the warnings on the pharmaceutical insert. Vow to drink tons of water, eat lots of fresh fruits & veggies, take probiotics, no junk food or alcohol. First day, mild headache, mild heart palpations, tiredness. Second day worse headache, heart palpations, tiredness. Third day terrible headache, exhausted, little energy. I hang in there because I have no other antibiotic options (many allergies.) Fourth day very tired, bad headache, depressed, tearful. Sixth day more of the same. Begin to wonder if this drug will kill me. Drink even more water. Seventh day, I look at the pill in the morning. Will it kill me? Should I stop? Call the doc? I soooo want to get rid of this horrible infection that has been plaguing me for years. I decide I'd rather die than stay sick. I take the pill. Day is horrible: throbbing headache, extreme tiredness, heart palpations, confusion, depression, tearful. I go ahead and take the evening dose, wondering if I was going to die in my sleep. THE EIGHTH DAY I wake up in the morning feeling pretty good! Slept through the night. Not really tired, mood is good! All day today my energy got stronger and stronger. Headache very minimal. I feel good! Maybe I was experiencing my body as a battleground between the virus and the drug. And I think the drug is winning! Feeling good, better than in many months. Have three more doses and I'm done. SURE AM GLAD I HUNG IN THERE! It aint easy, but it seems to work. Can't stress enough: eat very carefully, drink enough water to drown an elephant, don't eat junk food, don't drink or drug. This drug is really hard on the body, and to survive it you need to help your body by feeding carefully and hydrating more than you ever have---and take probiotics!

I took Bactrim for eight days (for a dermatological issue) before I realized I was allergic to the drug. No know allergies before, and the first symptoms presented were tiredness and low grade temperature with aching, on the fourth day of taking Bactrim. Which I then believed, I had a virus, so I continued taking the antibiotic. When I developed 102.2 while on Tylenol and ibuprofen for the temperature, I made an md appointment. That day, day seven of Bactrim, I developed a full body bright red rash. It took me two weeks to recuperate and return to normal. I am a 57 year old registered nurse.

I have bad pain in my right side,since taking bactrum, I have had hep c for at least 30 yrs, I don't drink acohol since 1985, I got hep c from drug use. is this pill bad for the liver, the pain comes and goes, always in the same spot. I might even have hepatitis cirosis, please answer this.

Bactrim is not a good drug. I was put into ICU two times. The first time I went in ICU the doctors told me I must have used different detergent or something. However, I was perscribed the drug again for a UTI and I broke out with hives again. I wanted to tear my meat of the bone. I had to rush to the hospital and get three IV's. I have talked to serveral other teachers at my school and atleast five have had problems with the drug. I do not recommend it.

Stopped taking it 16 days ago and still feel tingling in my legs followed by weakness to a point where I feel like my legs will give out. I have to sit down for a while. I had a hip replaced,so I have weakness in my left leg to start with! Scarey.....I wonder how much longer this weakness is going to last from Bactrim.... Ugh!

Hi, I had an ingrown toe nail that was infected, after they took it off they put me on sulfamethoxazole / Bactrim. Day two when I went to Doctor for my first followup I had a slight temperature. Day four I was really dizzy and nauseous and my legs were really weak! I had to lie down for several hours, I thought I caught a bug.. now I know after reading. From what I've seen here and other places, the average is about 4 to 5 days when some of these side-effects are really noted. Tonight, I not taking this and I'll be calling the doctor to get on something else that I know I can take.
