Bactrim does more harm than good and in most cases causes life threatening reactions. Please ask your doc for a non- sulfa drug. I m a very healthy 30 yr old who was prescribed bactrim. It almost killed me... So I m trying to protect people from taking this deadly drug. It's already banned in the uk .. Readout online if you don't trust me

Ive been taking that bactrim too and it had me feeling really bad so ive stopped taking it. My side effects are still here with me. My question to you is how long did it take for your symptoms to subside?

I had a bad reaction to Bactrim 3 months ago and my symptoms or "after effects" persisted for about 2 weeks after I stopped taking it. They should go away though. Unfortunately I've had a relapse of my prostatitis recently and am now realizing why Bactrim is still legal in this country, there are very few alternatives for bacterial infections. If you have a bad reaction to Bactrim, you could try Cipro, Levaquin, or even Doxy but at that point you're pretty much out of options for this. The bottom line is bacteria is very hard to kill, especially if in the prostate, and a lot of times the drugs have to be so harsh they can do as much harm to you as the bacteria itself, or more.

I was on the double dose of Bactrim and also on a 20 day course. I was on the 14th day when bad side effects started to happen. At first I did not link them together to the Bactrim. My mouth and lips became itchy. Then on the 15th day I had headaches and a very stiff neck that I thought was attributed to how I slept. As the day progressed it seemed to get worse. Motrin didn't even relieve the pain or headache. That night I could not sleep because as soon as I began to drift off I awoke with a terrible itch all over my body. By 4am I took an allergy pill and that seemed to help calm the itch. By the 16th day my neck was in so much pain I could not easiy turn my head. I felt as if I had been in a accident and had whiplash. That is when I began to search online and see if this was a reaction to the Bactrim. Thank God everyone posted these reactions online or I would have had no way of knowing. I called my doctor and also my pharmacist to report it to them. Now, I will also call the FDA. I understand some people may still need this medicine but this drug should be one that is given with caution. I took Aleve and that seems to help bring down the neck pain to a level of 6 1/2. Now, if I sit without any movement I almost feel no pain. However, if I move or do not prop both my arms on the armrest with pillows the arms put a strain on my shoulder which strains my neck and I am back in pain again. I cannot wait until this is out of my system. I drank lots of water and took some milk thistle to help aid the liver in detoxing it out. I hope everyone feels better soon!

I took bectrim and it was a half of one and my mouth broke out with blister and hurts very bad like something burnt me inside my mouth

I took Bactrim DS for a uti for 10 days. Starting on the second day I started shaking internally- like my whole body was shaking from the inside out. I also had terrible night sweats, anxiety, depression and heart palpitations which I've never had before in my life. The side effects lessened as I progressed toward 10 days. However, after I finished taking it all the symptoms came back. It's like I am going through withdrawal from an addictive substance. These side effects have lingered for 6, going on 7 weeks now. As I'm typing this my heart is beating really weird. I still wake up feeling depressed and sick to my stomach. It's been such a horrible, scary experience. In order to possibly help my body heal from taking such a horrible drug, I've been taking a multi vitamin, b complex, fish oil , D and a probiotic. Does anyone know how long side effects from Bactrim can linger in the body?

The drug is long out of your system, typically an antibiotic is only in your system about 24 hours after you stop taking it. What you are experiencing now are after effects. No way of knowing how long they can last, but if it's been 7-8 weeks, I'd recommend seeing your doctor.

I was prescribed Bactrim for my UTI. On the 3rd day of taking the antibiotic I woke up at 3am sick as a dog. I was nauseous and had watery stool. The side effects continued to present. Headaches, body aches, nausea, back pain, shaking and just generally an ill feeling. I am now on day 7 of 10 and am toughing it out but I feel horrible.

So this was the 3rd time I was prescribed bactrim to treat a UTI. The first treatment was a 5 day treatment. I had gone on vacation to Vegas while on the medication and on the 5 day of taking the meds I started feeling a pain on my left side of my abdomen and back I went to urgent care 2 times and they said that I pulled a muscle. It was hard to believe since I really did not do much activity. But I treated it for a pulled muscle and felt better eventually. About 3 weeks ago I got another UTI and they prescribed bactrim once again but this was only a 3 day treatment so the side effects where not as sever and I did not notice them. A week ago I got a sharp pain in what I thought was my bladder so here I go again to the doctors office they had little proof of it being a bladder infection just small amount of blood in my urine but they still prescribed bactim this time a 5 day treatment. On day 3 I was constipated and was in so much pain and discomfort I had to go to urgent care again. I told them the medication I was on and now have stopped taking due to the constipation. They said oh we think its appendicitis!! After 2 days there several test and CT scans they said its not appendicitis your just constipated. I asked again could all of this be a side effect of the meds I was prescribed and they assured me it was not. It had to do with my diet. I just didn't feel okay with there respond so I got home and did a little research and found this!! I wish I would have found this sooner. People are experiencing the same side and after effects as me anxiety, insomnia, pain on my abdomen,constipation, tremors,shortness of breath, irregular heat beat. It's even on the FDA website but the doctor assured me it was not a side effect of the drug!! And now to know it was banned in the UK!!! I don't understand these doctors. I have 2 days off of work for my "constipation" I have the right mind to make a appointment with my doctor and ask why they would prescribed something so dangerous! I don't feel myself and I just want this to be over. Oh and get this on my discharged papers they state continue to take current medication bactim 2 a day. If anyone could tell me how long these effect last it will be greatly appraised

Mine subsided after about a week off the Bactrim. It seems to very from person to person. I will never, ever take this medication again. I did start taking probiotics while on Bactrim and it seemed to ease some of the stomach/digestive problems but they were expensive at $28.99 for 30 capsules.

I was prescribed 10 days of bactrim. After a few days I had a bad lower back ache on right side. i took many ibuprofin for this which helped. Then I broke out in a rash around collar, covering back, on arms, and entire head looked sunburned. The itchyness and burning took a few days to surface. i thought this was allergic reaction to the ibuprofin but now i think its the bactrim. Afterall i have taken ibuprofin 100 times or so before. i also have had aweful headaches. Hopefully Ill be ok cause I got the bactrim prescribed on my last day of having health insurance.

I would agree with you that the rash is from the Bactrim. Take some benedryl. I had severe rash from head to toes and had to go to ER for a steroid shot and meds. The doctor said don't ever take anything with Sulfa again, next time it could be deadly. It took about 2 weeks for the rash to go away, although my arms were still splotchy for a long time. I hope you feel better soon.

Hello, from sunny Jamaica, where I happen to be while suffering the side effects of bacterium DS. My first recourse was to try "therapeutic" doses of a high quality probiotic (Natren's Healthy Trinity). I took 2 capsules, 3-4 times per day, for three-four days, before I deciding to get the UTI test /meds in case I was unable to kick the infection with the probiotics and cranberry extract. I went to an urgent care clinic the day before heading here incase the familiar feeling I began experiencing a few days earlier was indeed a UTI; I waned to have an antibiotic on hand as a last resort.
I decided to succumb to the antibiotic after two days here with no complete symptom relief. In fact, to addd insult to injury, the bactrim did/has not worked on this UTI...am still having mild discomfort.
My negative reaction symptoms began with a mild rash which, by day three, became quite unsightly; I immediately associated the rash with the antibiotic. However, the morning before, I awakened with nausea and did not associate it with the bacterium. I decided to take only one tablet per day for the remainder of the prescription, which meant on day 4 I took one (with a hearty dinner). This morning, day 5, I have the lower back and right-side aches some of y'all describing; they are getting progressively intense. I decided to stop taking the medication and will be back in the docs office when I return.

After using Bactrian for a uti a year ago, I found apple cider vinegar raw with the mother (diluted- 1 part acv 3 parts water) for infection and cantheris pellets for discomfort, works wonderfully for a uti. I will never take antibiotics ever again!!!!!!

I was prescribed bactrium ds in February for a spider bite. Three days later I was in the er with pneumonia. I even asked how I could get pneumonia while on antibiotics. He stated that bactrium was better for skin issues while I would need another antibiotic for the pneumonia. So I switched. I got well but the cough lingered awhile. No one ever mentioned an adverse reaction. So last week I started bactrium again and was sick within three hours. I knew immediately this was not a coincidence. Off to the er again. Xray normal and ekg normal. I obvously stopped the bactrium and am a lot better today. My eyes are still red and itchy. I also still cough some. But I cannot believe the first er doc did not mention that all my symptoms (feeling like I had been beat by a baseball bat, cough, headache, tight chest, fatigue) were classic adverse reactions.

Beware of the bactrim. First few days had headaches, loss of appetite and insomnia... Then 8th day broke out in hives. Scary , never had allergies in my life.

Bactrim is the worst!!! I have never been so itchy in my entire life. I cannot believe that I was prescribed something that is illegal in the UK, I wish the States were as proactive about keeping people safe. I am so swollen I feel like a water balloon and can't sleep through the night because I was up itchy. I hope no one indulges in this drug.

MMeeee TOO. I started with a Bactrim reaction on the 5th day of taking it. First came the bloating, joint all over pain, constipation, nausea.. then the next day rash and welts and itching so bad that benedryl, even the maximum dosage allowed will not touch it. Doc gave me a 'cript for an anti itch pill. It does help but not an awful lot. I try to keep busy to keep my mind off of the itch but that lasts about 20 minutes and then back to rubbing. I can't scratch or I'd have my sking scratched off by now..and I'm 3 days into it. One of the best things to stop or soothe the itch for maybe an hour at a time is rubbing alchol. If you have no open scratched areas the alochol will not burn but does give some relief as it evaporates off of you. A wet towel to keep wiping your itchy places helps too. Good luck.. ! I do not think that the our government needs to water board anyone to get info out of them.. just give them a sulfa drug and once they start the itch they'll talk.
