I need to know of any side effects that may occur while taking this medication.

I took one dose and by nightfall I had chills, dizziness, unable to balance, diarrhea. This med was like taking poison. I stopped taking it after the initial dose. Day two, chills again and diarrhea, sore joints. Have been taking antihistamine and Tylenol. Hopefully I'll be better in a few days. All this from one pill!

I have had very sore muscles and joints starting about 2 weeks after stopping Bactrim. I didn't take the last 3 pills also because I was nauseated.

Hello,I took bactrim April 20 then I started feeling sick on the 25.then high fever on 26 and rashes appeared on 27.decided to go to hosp. Rashes got worst everyday,my eyes have discharge,my mouth is painful too even my private part.that's when they told me it's the side effect of bactrim.I had Steven Johnson syndrome. I can't walk my feet are swollen.it was a terrible feeling.thought I will gonna be dead.been in the hosp for 9 days.still feeling weak when I got home.my potassium went down.my skin is so sensitive to heat can't go out and now I still have the scar all over my body.

How is your friend doing?

I am still having a reaction and now i am starting to think that perhaps i have a mild Steven Johnsons???? The reason is because I still have my gum bleeding and raw looking gums and it's been 3 months since I stopped the Bactri. Also, I still feel sunburned when i go to the sun but no one can see it but me. It's not red just feels sunburned and itchy. Also have ulcers in mouth and cough. I just don't understand why still 3months later. Please anyone out there experienced these symptoms?

I have being going thru hell for the last three days. Horrible experience. Took bacterium for uti this was worst then the infection. Laid up for 3 days. I just want it to end, had one pill left and so not taking it wish I thought if this 2 days ago. I just want to be normal again.

I know they were having issues keeping her heart rate high enough, it was real low. She had to have a defibrillator installed Friday. She had Stevens Johns syndrome from the Bactrim. It will make your body burn from the inside out, she had sinew skin damage and internal damage. She had to have cell therapy. She only been home for a day so I haven't been able to see her yet. And I don't think they really know the full extent and how long the damage may last. When I learn more I will update.

Melissa, so sorry your friend is going through this! Can you elaborate on what kind of heart issue is she having? As well as burns? How did the doctor catch it? I'm much better two months after but still have sun allergies, heart palpitations, stomach issues :(

So I find out that one of my friends has been in the burn unit because of Bactrim. She had been on it for two weeks and was having problems with but the doctors kept telling her that it wasn't Bactrim. But finally one Dr at an er caught it. She has had heart issues and other issues because of it. If it had been allowed to go on longer she may be here. Scary stuff.

I was taking bactrim for 9 days. I went to urgent care on the 9th day cause I felt like I was getting the flu they couldnt find anything wrong. The next day I woke up with a rash all over my body. They said it was a viral infection I believe not. I am now back on steroids for a week to see if it takes care of it. I wish they could somehow flush this drug out of my body.

Thank you for replying. I have had so many horrible symptoms for the past 5 weeks. I am not sure what to do at this point. I am trying natural antihystamine, turmeric, vitamins, probiotics. I am not sure if anyone had luck with steroids? How did you treat the symptoms? I am not sure if it's allergic reaction still lingering or is it a toxic reaction. I am so sad and depressed. I just want to get better. I feel the burning in all my muscles and joints, my fingertips, my neck, I feel like i will have permanent tendonitis from this. Please help me with providing some success story of treating this :(

It's been a few weeks for me and I still have the joint pain every couple days but nothing close to how bad it was when it first happened. I hope I never experience that again. I hope you start to improve more asap.

It's been over a year and my arms are still red and sun sensitive, as is my cheek. They swell up still when I got hot. Not sure if it will ever normal again. Some people don't continue tip have issues.

Please tell me you are ok now? I reacted pretty badly to Bactrim and it's been a month and my muscles still hurt, I'm still sensitive to the sun and itchy, feel so unwell. When does it go away? Did you find out it was autoimmune reaction?

Thank you again everyone. I actually have some prednisone for my arthritis and I started taking some yesterday. Figure it can't hurt. I will definitely see my doctor if it's not gone tomorrow. I've never had anything so painful.

It's worth a try. If it doesn't work you will have to pay a visit to your dr or urgent care. The side effects are horrible and painful as well. Someone just commented that they needed a dr visit to get a steroid shot etc. I wish you the best, as I have been there!

For me benadryl wasn't enough, I had to get a steroid shot and take oral steroids for a week. I should have said that before. I ended up in the er, my arms were feverish, red and swollen.

Have you been taking Benadryl? That will help those symptoms go away faster. That's what a RN had me do. Thankfully it was enough. But I had the same reaction as you and it was awful!

I agree so taking it. The longer it is in your system the wise things will get. It's been over a year for me and I still haven't gotten back to normal.
