Side Effects From Debendox (Top voted first)

I was prescribed Debendox for severe morning sickness in 1979. My daughter was born early 1980 and suffered from around the age of 13 from severe allergies. It wasn’t until an amazing Dr. she went to when she became pregnant herself thought outside the box. Hearing her medical history he sent her for a scan. Turns out she was born without a spleen. I have wondered since then if it was because of the debendox which I was told was a safe option.

According to NIH studies, it was known to cause fetal malformation, but after this long of a time period, there is no way to say for sure if that is what caused her problem.

While it sometimes easier for us to attribute birth defects to some sort of medication that was being taking, or trauma in the womb, in many cases it is very hard to know what has actually caused them, since genetics can also play a role. I have several myself, and I will likely never know if they are due to my parent's alcoholism, or just genetics.

How is your daughter doing, now? I've never found a resolution, so far, for all of my allergies, they just seem to get worse with age.

Hi. I was born in 1982 and have known most of my life that my mother was taking debendox while pregnant with me. The doctors thought i had spinaebifida which thankfully i didn't, however I have a multitude of other health problems:

-Asthma
-Left occitipal artereo venous malformation - removed (brain surgery)
-2 aneurysms - removed
-Insulin resistance
-Pcos
-Hypothyroidism
-Cervical cancer cells - removed with a laser
-Other vascular malformations
-Infertility - TTC for 17 years now about to start ivf
-Depression and anxiety

I am angry as it was the end of 1981 and during 1982 when the affects of the drug would've been known and I've had a lifetime of ailments.
