Side Effects? Worse Anxiety?
UpdatedI just started taking citalopram 20 mg 5 days ago. Today I had a terrible all over anxiety/panic attack that lasted about 10 min. I've never had anything that intense before. I wonder if I should just give this med more time to get in my system.
Just wondering if this happened to anyone else?

Hi they think citalapram takes 5-6 weeks to work u will feel worse before better keep at it is an amazing tablet it's helped me a great deal
Hello,
I seen you posted this a little while back. I was wondering how you were doing? I have started this medicine this past Friday. I have taken 4 doses of 10mg. Yesterday / Last night I felt terribly anxious for a good part of the day, and last night I woke up in a panic, and finally fell asleep about an hour later.
Today, I feel a little stoned (I have felt like this since I started) but still feel very anxious, not as bad as yesterday though. It kind of comes and goes. I have been clenching my jaw and sweating more, which I can deal with (it is not bad at all). I am just getting annoyed with the anxiety/panic feeling.
Any advice??
Hey Tony, I've been taking 20 mg cit for about 3 wks now, still a little shaky in the mornings, but all in all doing a lot better. Not having any major panic/anxiety still not where I wanna be but I do think the pills are working. Just keep powering thru it will get better.
Carol,
Thank you for the quick feedback!!
I have been dealing with this since I was a kid, but has gotten pretty bad over the course of the past year. My uncle was in and out of the hospital, my mom got diagnosed with breast cancer (she is now getting back to herself!!) and I lost my grandma about 7 months ago... it has be a rough year..
I finally decided to go see a doctor last week. My last straw was dreading my 6 year old sons meet the teacher night for fear I may have a panic attack!! And of course, I did about half way through. It was terrible. I kept telling myself, I'm 28 years old, I need to grow up and deal with this, I have no reason to have anxiety or be down etc.. but I could not control it, and I told myself that I needed help.
I waited about 3 - 4 days to take the pills because I started researching side effects and reading horror stories (I know I shouldn't have read) and as soon as I swallowed the first pill, I got worked up.. I am only 4 doses in (it will be 5 tonight) and I am just wondering how worse it will get before it gets better. Don't get me wrong, I know I can get through it, but sitting outside on my porch from 2am - 3am trying to calm down will get old very fast lol. I also drank a few beers earlier in the day (4 or 5), do you think that had a negative effect??? I have surely learned my lesson with alcohol with this pill, even if it wasn't directly related.
I have been reading a lot of positive posts today, and it is really giving me hope that in a few weeks I can enjoy my life without anxiety and fear. I now realize that I am one of many, many people that suffer from anxiety/panic/depression etc... gives a little comfort I guess. I apologize for the long sappy post, but I guess I needed to vent a little.
It is very good hearing that you are doing better after 3 weeks!!
I am looking forward to hearing more good/positive new from you!!
thank you again for the help/support.
Tony
Hey Tony sounds like you have a lot going on glad you're getting some help. Me on the other hand all this just started about 3 mo ago. Doc put me on hi blood pressure med(which turns out I didn't have) anyway I got a major dizzy attack driving & poof that was it! Lost total confidence couldn't drive, couldn't go anywhere public, had the shakes, light headed thought I would pass out in public. I've always been a nervous person but good lord this went way beyond that. Anyway long story short I'm driving short distances now, even went to the store alone yesterday & today, very nervous but improvement that I could even get that far ha. So hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us . :) keep looking ahead!
Hey carol, I'm sorry to hear about your experience! I am glad you are making progress though!!! I guess when we hit bottom it takes baby steps to get to where we need to be.. Progress, whether slow or fast, is still progress. God bless you and I hope you are back to yourself soon!!!!
