Side Effects Of Metronidazole

I used flagyl almost 4 months ago for 7 days. I still have a terrible, sometimes salty, sometimes metallic
taste in my mouth. Is this long term side effect at all
normal?

According the drug's side effect profile, a sharp, unpleasant metallic taste is not unusual.

I've also heard that Peppermint candy seems to help, since it increases saliva production and masks the metallic taste. It probably won't make it go away, but should certainly make it more tolerable.

I would also suggest trying peppermint essential oil if you need something a bit stronger.

I was on metronidazole for c diff 4years ago with an entirely inflamed colon. After having a round of antibiotics they thought I had c diff again and put on metronidazole again. I had the same symptoms yellow tongue headache, severe dizziness, severe anxiety, only the symptoms were worse. I didn't have c diff so I immediately stopped the medicine. I had read on a different site to eat a bland diet . I lived on rice and chicken. Bananas, canned fruit and vegetables, or steamed vegetables helped minimized the diarrhea and nausea. I have been off the medicine for 4 days and I am still too dizzy to drive. I read if you drink a lot of water it help. I am drinking 8oz every 1/2 hour , I thought yesterday I was getting better but today I relapsed with severe dizziness. I remember having these symptoms years ago when I was on the medicine but at that time I thought it was due to the inflamed colon. I know now it is the medicine. My tongue was yellow for 6 months . All doctors said it was not from the medicine but it is yellow again so I believe it is. I wanted to post this because the bland diet helped me and I had symptoms over one month after I was off the medicine.I hope iI will have a shorter time with the symptoms this time.

Thank you very much for this information. My Dr prescribed Adco-Metronida 400mg for me as I had to start of a Peptic Ulcer. I take this tables twice a day, after meals.
I experience a very bitter and unpleasent taste in my mouth each time after I took this pill and also nausea. A banana and some jelly to take away that taste does help. It sounds to me that this could be quite normal. Please can you advise. Thank you
