Should I Increase My Mirtazapine Dosage?
UpdatedI have suffered from quite severe anxiety since losing my mother 2 years ago. I tried many SSRIS which I could not tolerate as I have a 7 and 12 year old to care for and these drugs made my anxiety skyrocket! I have been terrified to try anything else until a couple of weeks ago. I was suffering racing thoughts, physical symptoms and poor sleep and I was desperate. I have been prescribed Mirtazapine to help sleep and also for the low mood/anxiety. I started on 15 mg which immediately helped with my sleep. I had drowsiness for first few days but that went. Because I felt drowsy first couple of days/week the anxiety seemed better and I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Now however my anxiety is as bad if not worse than before and I feel really depressed. I am seeing my GP to discuss an increase to 30 mg as he says this is a therapeutic dose for low mood. Quite frankly I don't know which way to turn. I am terrified of my symptoms becoming worse. I am constantly googling symptoms of mirtazapine. I guess I just want a good news story of someone out there who has a similar story to mine. I feel like I am never going to feel better again.

Hello, Judy! How are you?
It is worth trying, however, you should be aware that according to the U.S. FDA, anxiety or worsening anxiety can be side effects of such a medication, I've generally found that it takes about 3 weeks for it to go away, when starting one or adjusting the dosage.
Other typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and weight changes.
Is there anything else I can help with?
