Screwed By Metformin

I suffered profound and sudden hearing loss just a few weeks after my physician put me on Metformin 500s, and I strongly suspect this medication. I am not even pre-diabetic, and have a healthy diet, just a body that has been stubborn to lost adipose tissue in my mid-50s, although my cholesterol is 70 and BP is usually 110/70 with blood sugar on the low side. He prescribed Metformin, thinking it may 'trick' my body into whatever, but I've read something about the activity involved in the inner ear area with chemical change, and highly suspect this in my unilateral hearing loss, right ear. I've been to Univ of AL for three proc now, nine trips, to no avail, with no insurance....screwed

Hello, Feltygal! How are you? I'm very sorry about the hearing loss.

However, Metformin hasn't been known to cause that, according to the FDA reports.

Have you had it checked out by your doctor? Metformin can cause sinusitis and general stuffiness, so it could be that your ear is clogged.

Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, flatulence and hypoglycemia.
