Setting Record Straight!! How Long After Taking Subutex Can U Take Methadone (Page 2)

Both subutex and suboxone will cause precipitated withdrawal. It is the bupe that connects to the receptors and kicks the methadone out. Naloxone is just an extra blocker!! I am a social worker at a clinic. Waiting at least 12 hours only if on low dose 20mg or less should b OK. But 24 preferred.

You need to wait. I have experienced precipitated withdrawals, and I have witnessed others have even more severe precipitated withdrawals... and yes in both cases it was from Subutex, not Suboxone (Zubsolv wasn’t even around at that point).

I don’t know why people seem to think that Subutex won’t send you into precip. withdrawals, it most definitely will and trust me you’re not going to like it.

Im having to change doctors due to insurance issues and also to do with insurance issues there will be a 4 to 5 day period where i wont have any suboxone and i have a family to tend to so i had entended to take 10mg methadone each of those days so how long would i need to wait to start my suboxone or subutex not sure what new dr prescibes?Thank you in advance

Hi Dave! What ended up happening after you took the Methadone the next day after having Subutex? I'm in the same situation right now. I hope you get this, and are well! Your feedback is much appreciated!!!

Every person’s system is different. It really depends on how long you have been using a certain other opioid and which one. New study show that a person can be switched from doses of somewhere around 160mg morphine or oxycodone straight to Subutex. My doctor had me stop methadone at 30 mg a day, but take morphine instant release and tramadol. He had me do this for two weeks. I had almost no physical withdrawal symptoms, but the anxiety and depression and insomnia were overwhelming. Xanax, gabapentin, and Zanaflex got me through it. I tapered down On the MSIR to 60 mg a day, and then took only tram at all for 24 hours, then went straight to the Subutex with no problem. Within an hour it felt like the weight of the world has been lifted off of me. I don’t think I needed to wait two weeks but he said that precipitated withdrawal from methadone caused by Suboxone or Subutex will make patients never ever want to take either of them again and on the MSIR to 60 mg a day, and then took only tramadol for 24 hours, then went straight to the Subutex with no problem. Within an hour it felt like the weight of the world has been lifted off of me. I don’t think I needed to wait two weeks but he said that precipitated withdrawal from methadone caused by Suboxone or Subutex will make patients never ever want to take either of them again and can compromise your health and life. So I’m grateful to him because I am feeling 1000% better now
