I have a 14yo retired guide dog who has arthritis in his back legs and spine, and when he was 7 he got an electrical jolt up his back legs. He also has very large lipomas on the back legs. He has a renal problem which is on a renal diet and on bp med. From time to time he shows his pain with shakeing and panting and is on 1/2-1 mg of Ativan. I retired Farrell to a very dear friend 4 y.o. ago. He has been on Ascripton 2 tabs AM and PM for pain. Because of takeing a few falls my friend went to the Vet. who put him on Rimadol. I have heard horror sttories about this med especially on older dogs. Personally, he was doing OK on Ascripton and I felt it was also helping his heart. With regards to the above, is this a safe drug for a older dog with these problems? The Vet. is very good but I ? this.
Thank you.

To be completely honest, I can't answer you. I can only suggest that you consult another veterinarian, if you want a second opinion.

Our site provides information on medications for human use and the same applies to my own knowledge and experience.

The use of medications and their safety in animals requires specialized study and training and I am not familiar with it, I'm sorry.

I could help with all sorts of details and side effects for humans, but nothing about canines.

If you refer to the above link, you'll see this site doesn't even have such information in our monographs.

I'm sorry, I really wish I could be of assistance.

Have you tried consulting a vet?
