Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 7)

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

Xanax is a controlled substance they have a database that stores all your prescriptions when they are filled when they are picked up i know i have been on Xanax for over 10 years and Walgreens is allowed to fill them 3 days early. So as soon as they put your name in the system it shows them when you last filled them so there is no pharmacy going to fill them 7 days early even if you pay cash cause they can get in trouble by the DEA. I just want to say that the legitimate Drs and pharmacies are just doing their job. If you are running out of your meds you need to cut back, unless your Dr feels you could use an increase? I am 51 and was 30 when diagnosed with several arthritis's bulging and herniated discs, I could go on and on. But my point is, I and some of you are going to be living with these issues for years and years. I am trying to lose weight and I am really not that big, walking, stretching exercises, eating better. I am trying to get myself better so I can take less meds. I also have had CPL surgeries, shots, tens unit, physical therapy, heat, massage. I try what my Drs suggest trying to get the best out of life. I am a mom, wife, grandma, aunt, sister, daughter, friend. I want to be here for all of my friends and family. Point is don't harass the pharmacy for doing their job!

Ed the medications you mentioned require a Prior Authorization from your doctor before you can get them filled.

Lunesta is Schedule IV. It is not a Schedule II like opiates.

I am getting *some* of my meds from mail order. For others, it's the local pharmacy. I also *know* that when/before they fill my prescriptions they have to check with the company that is paid for by the company I work for. I have gotten into some long (1+ hour conversations) with them. Once in a while when I get turned down, I have to appeal the claim. Then my doctor has to get involved, the last one being PRADAXA, they thought they could just substitute with their flavor of the month medication. My doctor wrote a letter saying it was a medical necessity because the one they wanted to stick me with, was contraindicated because of another medication. Almost all of the time when I have the conversations with these people they are let's say average, and it takes time to get through to these people.
Another example is LUNESTA, that is a controlled substance, my doctors' office (since he changed offices) was good at handling renewals, the new one not so much. For them to get a renewal done takes 7 (or more) days. The old office was one day. There was a screw-up someplace I never did find out where, and I was running short of the drug, the doctor called (the local pharmacy) and got me enough until the mail order people could get the pills out to me.

I believe doing what you did is illegal. I am not a lawyer, but I sure wouldn't do it.

Ed, getting you meds through the mail is different than getting them filled in a drug store. Each state decides how long prescriptions for Schedule II meds are valid. In some states those prescriptions expire in 30 days in others it is 6 months. Prescriptions for meds that are not Schedule II are valid longer than those that are.

I do not live in your state, but if I did I would have to bve in my drs office at least once a week just on refills. The Dr would make out like a baandit having to have all these extra appointments. Are you sure this is for all perscriptions amd maybe only for narcotics?

When mine are filled it is according to my insurance company not the pharmacy.

It is probably unique in each state. In my state (I take a controlled substance) and the script is good for 1 year. I get my drugs in 90 day supplies from my mail order. Like I said before I used to be able to order them online, and the FEDS got involved, now you have to call up each 90 days to renew it. After 1 year the doctor has to write a new script. Again I am not sure about state/fed rules. For what it is worth I have been taking this medication for over 15 years, AFAIK its not addictive. I just use it 1 a night to get to sleep with. Its the best damn sleeping pill I have ever tried and no side effects (for me).

NO, not "only" opiates are considered narcotics. I do not know where that myth ever surfaced - but narcotics are any controlled substance such as barbiturates, benzos, amphetamines, pot, cocaine, meth... etc,

All opiates are narcotics - all narcotics are not opiates.

Get your facts straight before you bust Nurses chops.

#dubnub...I realize these posts are old. But I deal with CVS & the 2 that I go to here in CA are insane. Depending on the pharmacist; who just happens to be working that day they will fill YOUR Rx WHENEVER THEY feel it should be filled. MOST of them will fill at 28 days. Then if you get a pharmacist who's there to fill in for the regular pharmacist they go by their rules. They'll say "29 days; 30 days" WHATEVER they think. I realize that in theory Rx's should last 30 days BUT anyone who deals with medication for anxiety or pain knows that NOT every day is the same & we may run out 2-3-4 days early BUT once again the pharmacists are playing doctor. I have the BEST doctor & staff. I had to call on a Saturday so they could help me with a certain Rx & a certain pharmacist & the lady in the office that Sat. went OUT of HER WAY to get it straightened out. Now, if I could get this pharmacy crap figured out. It was fine for years because I used my small hometown owner/operated pharmacy until they closed & sold out to CVS. They would fill it as soon as it would go through insurance (which was 24 days) so now I have to re-adjust which is fine but tell me if it's going to be 28 days or 29 days because I depend on that for two of my scripts.

The insurance people are under orders from the FDA. I take a medication that I used to be able to order online. Now, I have to call in for that once script only. I don't remember if the medication is on schedule 1,2 or 3. I have been taking this sleeping pill for probably 20 years. It used to be really expensive, but after 6 years it came down in price (now made in India, I think). The narcotic type drugs are extremely carefully watched if it is an opioid good luck. With the opioid epidemic, I expect it to get worse. The Feds generally know what they are doing and put restrictions on medications for good reasons.

Hi I'm in the UK and with certain medication you can't go to other chemists to get a prescription so you technically you have more than you're supposed to. They call the other pharmacy in the area but I suspect there is a computer system so people can't do this and end up with more than they are ment to have. We don't get xanax as far as I'm aware as I could benefit from them greatly. Diazepam is what I receive but getting taken off them after 15yrs approx. Anyway,sorry,I wouldn't think you could get them early but you cood try going abit further afield to a pharmacy and try. Hope you get what you need!

I know I needed to fill my sleeping pills 2 wks.early because of severe back pain and not sleeping so I was honest with my Dr and he wrote me a prescriptions for 14 days but did mention that when u take more than prescribed the pharmacy may say something. Just note that if he writes u a script for 2 weeks it's considered a new scripts so any repeats u may have had on that medication will be gone.so after the 2 weeks.he would need to write u your regular script for that med whether it's filled every 30 days or what.

If you get your medications through insurance, the Insurance people are the ones who keep track. I have had similar incidents as well. Nothing to be ashamed of. Although I do have severe memory problems. If I am taking my meds for a short time, I get them through my local pharmacy. If it's long term then I do mail order, it really is cheaper. Ask your prescription people if that is an option, it saves me a ton of money. Another option is Canadian pharmacies. *Some* prescriptions are cheaper from them, but make sure you find a reputable one. Don't pay any attention to ads you see for XXXXXX med, usually, they are rip off people. Better to stay with a named pharmacy than loose your money to these con artists. As a side note, I have seen ads for medications from places like Turkey and I personally would not buy any medication from a 2.5 world country. Remember these countries do not have anything like the FDA.

Speaking about the FDA, our President is ruining it and I am pretty sure in a few years our medication will no longer be safe.

You should take your meds as prescribed and stop buying extras on the street. You don't know what you are really getting. I don't know what you will tell your psych but I would recommend the truth. There is no way he/she will bump you up 6 mgs a day. Maybe he will give you more for long enough for you to taper down to what is prescribed. Good luck.

I also live in California, and they changed the rules, to get a prescription refilled, you can't just call on the phone, you HAVE to go into the doctors office.....that's been in effect for about 3 years now......so I make sure my appointments are every 45 days, since that's all they will give out now......

Your insurance probably won't pay for two. I filled a blood pressure medicine and couldn't find it. Knew my insurance wouldnt cover it right away so I called the doctor's office and told them what happened. They called me an another one to Walmart and I went and paid for it myself. As it turned out it was $1 cheaper than my insurance paid.

I have been taking Xanax for years, used to get a 6 month supply....then it went down to 3 months, then two months, now I have to go in every 6 weeks, they are only giving me 45.....the reason??
They are cracking down on meds, since so many people seem to be abusing this drug and opiates, and dying.....
