Question About Scored Blood Pressure Tabletsf (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been taking 50 mg twice a day of metoprolol tartrate since May. Doc wants to double the dose all at once...200 mg a day because BP was elevated a little (from a panic attack, I believe). So the 50 mg scored pills were a pink pill. The 100 mg pills are blue scored pills. If I am too afraid to double the dose all at once, is cutting the scored 100 mg tablet the same as two 50 mg tablets? I do have panic/anxiety disorder and med phobia..thats why I am too afraid to double the dose all at once, especially because of the side effects I had when I started the 50 mg tablets...i.e., anxiety, nervouness, dizziness. I expressed to her my concern and she said, "you"ll be fine". Completely did not understand or care about my concerns.

Thanks for any answers you can give as far as whether 2 halves of a 100 mg table being the same as two 50 mgs.

Yes, it would be the same, as long as they aren't time released tablets. Those would be designated with ER, SR, XR or something similar.

Learn more Metoprolol details here.

How long after the panic attack was the blood pressure elevation noticed?

And if this doctor isn't listening, have you considered seeing a different doctor?

Thanks for your reply. No, the lopressor is not ER, SR, or XR. It's just plain metaprolol tartrate. The blood pressure goes up as soon as the panic attacks start and usually takes quite a while to come down. I have been dealing with panic attack for 20+ years. The doc knew I was having a panic attack when the intake person did the blood pressure. The doc didn't even recheck it once I had calmed down.

Unfortunately I cannot find another doc. My husband is retired military and we have to see the doc we are assigned to. We cannot afford to see aprivate family doctor. Thats one of the tough things about being military or retired military...got to see who they assign to you. UGH

I do feel very uncomfortable jumping up 100 mg. That is why I asked about splitting the 100 mg tabs in two and either continuing with 50 mg twice a day or maybe even upping it to150 a day instead of 200.

Again, thanks so much for your reply. It is very much appreciated.
