Qsymia Worked For Me
UpdatedI have done very well on the medication. I have had to increase the dosage to the full amount as had been advised by the manufacturer and the FDA and after almost a full year it seems to have stopped working, which happens with most medications like this (and pain meds too). My doctor has suggested weekly "drug" holidays (i.e. I don't take it on the weekends) to stimulate it's efficacy when I resume the next weekday. Also, on those weekdays when I simply forget to take it at the early time of day, I just don't take it at all. However, as I reach the full year period in June, I am looking at loosing the monthly $75 discount. So I wrote the manuf. Vivus and asked if they would extend the discount so that I can safely taper down to get off the medication as is the recommended plan which will take a while, I hope they agree because, even with the discount, it is very expensive. Medicare does not cover it. If they say no, I'm looking at a huge problem come June. I doubt they'd say no, the medication isn't selling well and the last thing they want is bad publicity. But my point here is that I have lost close to 30 lbs. and it came off slowly, which is a good thing.

I'm so very glad that it has worked so well for you!
Have you experienced any of the usual side effects that the FDA lists, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation or insomnia?
Did you hear back from the manufacturer, yet?
In the beginning I did have some of the side effects, I had increased anxiety w/ agitation immediately, I didn't think I'd be able to tolerate it but I gave it 2 weeks and it stopped. Insomnia is something I've lived with for decades so it's difficult to tell if it's worsened. However, to be safe I make sure I take it as early as possible. If I take it too early, however, the effects don't last long enough to get me thru *my* challenging time of day which is at night after 9-10 which is about emotional, learned behavior vs. true hunger (nightime/habitual, both parents and 1 sibling have done it our entire lives). Constipation will *never* be an issue for me so, no, I've not had that ,either. My blood pressure has remained normal and stable.. But it is starting to "wear off" which concerns me, and it shouldn't. One little thing I read which no one is talking about & I wonder if the FDA has removed it - the FDA, not Vivus, had written in one analysis & now I'm paraphrasing from memory, 'this drug is meant to be taken [for long term] or, [indefinitely]. I remember reading a work akin to "forever" and I was absolutely *floored* because nowhere had I read Vivus recommending it! On the contrary Vivus recommenced that in the event of a patient no reaching a weight loss of a certain % in a certain amount of time, the medication should be discontinued (w/ taper). I wonder why so few have done well on it or has anyone even gone the course? I know that Topamax was/is used for weight loss and phentermine had been until everyone started dying on the PhenFen cocktail (I didn't, obviously). The 2 worst side effects I've had are (1) being parched all the time & (2) maybe it's just part of aging, but my eyesight seems to be worsening - but no pain nor flashing.
