Purepac Xanax Causes Nausea!

Updated

I've used xanax off and on for years. Recently I was given a RX for the 2mg bars (less expensive). I took less than 1/8 of one and it made me so nauseous, awful. Anyone else experience this? Had it filled at Woemart.

Never heard of a purple bar, had purple footballs. Perhaps you are allergic to the color purple?

Your doc instructed you to take 1/8 of a 2mg xanax? That's odd. Why not prescribe .25 or .5? Perhaps something else made you nauseous. I have not seen purple 2mg bars either.

Darlin, sorry to hear about your reaction to the med. Do you happen to know who manufactured the pills were getting filled before? Even a color / shape / marking might help to verify as well. I've seen situations where even the same generic drug from different companies acts differently for some people.

It was a.yellow bar, manufactured by Purepac. I have used the white round ones and the white bars, even green bars. Not yellow. Happened again this morning after taking a very small bit of one-nausea.

My doc instructed me to take 1/4 a pill 2 times a day. I don't always need that much.
It's not purple, rather manufactured by Purepac. It's yellow.

Most Doctors try to give their patients the appropriate sized dose, not to be cut up in 8 ways. I never saw a bar for the first 22 years of taking Xanax. I haven't seen a Purple bar either, not to say they are not available?

Please, please, please...NOT PURPLE.
Please reread-NOT PURPLE.
It reads, P-U-R-E-P-A-C...not purple.
(Say "Pure-pack")
The whole point of the post is to ask whether the yellow one made you nauseous. That's all.
I have yellow bars bc I asked him for them, again; less expensive. I didn't want .5's.
Ok, Hun?

Me again! Many people don't care for Purepac, I have such a vast varied collection I don't have a least favorite at this point, but what is the Pill # on your Xanax? Again sorry!

Are you talking about the R039 yellow xanax?

Yes, that is the one. Yellow bar, r 039. Has it caused you to feel nauseous as well?

Hi Darlin, I just wanted to add that I confirmed the R039 are the 2mg Xanax now manufactured by Actavis (formerly purepac).

While I have not personally taken them, I wonder if the way they manufacture these ones (such as inactive ingredients or variance in formula) could be causing the nausea in your case?

Here is what I am seeing from the manufacturer's insert:

(1) Nausea is in fact listed as a possible adverse effect, though it is less common.

(2) The inactive ingredients are listed as: "colloidal silicon dioxide, corn starch, docusate sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium benzoate. The 0.5 mg tablet also contains FD&C yellow #6 aluminum lake (sunset yellow lake) ... The 2 mg tablet also contains D&C yellow #10 aluminum lake." [1]

Do you happen to remember which ones you were taking before? Has your dose been recently increased to 2mg, or have you been taking that amount for awhile now? Maybe you can ask your pharmacy to fill your script from a different generic manufacturer to see if you still experience the nausea? Hope this helps! If you don't mind, I'd be interested to know more about your history taking Alprazolam (dosage and manufacturer of previous scripts), so can you please let me know? Best wishes by the way!

I've been on Xanax/Alprazolam since 2001 or before that. .5mg 3x daily as needed. I got purepac a long time ago and had to switch pharmacies cause that's all they carried. Had bad side effects. Thought it was the filler, that I might be allergic. After a long time I forgot the bad reaction, extra anxiety, nausea, depression, scary suicidal thoughts, weird thoughts all bad, paranoia, sweats, felt like something was biting my skin. So I got my Rx filled at a closer pharmacy, whole fart. Also Sam's club only carries purepac/actavis? I can transfer my refills to my local where I got it before. They carry Green-something. Big problem is I still have 1/2 bottle left. So waiting on my doctor to call. Doing research today realized it may be due to withdrawal symptoms and not the fillers. Don't know. Allergic or withdrawal? Symptoms are the same. BTW I'm in my late 50's.

My Green Bars are from Dava although I have many other brands including the Purepac 1 mg pills. Nothing wrong with having a preference but don't stop them until you find a better brand. Withdrawal can be so horrible.

Just me, but I would not stop taking med like this abruptly. I've used xanax a long time, as well. Hard to stop; if you're on .5 x 3 a day as needed, should be okay. Of course, if you're having unusual thoughts, esp if you think about wanting to hurt yourself or someone else, please call someone you trust ASAP. Call your Dr. or 911- give someone a chance to know what's going on. People want to help, but you have to say so. Just say what's on your mind. This will pass, please hang in there!

Just got these R|0|3|9 yellow "bars" in 2017. I am having TERRIBLE and scary reactions. They are not taking away any withdrawal, I feel like my eyes are dilated, I am nauseous, and feel like I am incredibly sick..... Like how I used to get sick as a child and feel it throughout my entire body. Add onto that an extremely upset state of mind from these, weird skin feelings, weak body, and the 'I'm about to have a panic attack or cry feeling. I have no real Alprazolam feeling, and I feel terrible because I am pregnant, and the doctors insist to keep me on my Xanax because it would have been very dangerous to the baby to even attempt to wean me after how long I have been taking them. Can honestly say I have NEVER had an experience like this before. I feel super "chemicalized" for lack of a real word to describe how I am feeling. Since I am pregnant I am contemplating the hospital at this point, but I know they probably cannot do anything for me. I am terrified of going into withdrawal and risking the health of my baby, though. I am in a really tough place and cannot believe these are on the market again with common experiences such as mine.

Re: EDDY (# 14) Expand Referenced Message

I don't think the post refers to the color green but the brand the pharmacy carries "green something" so must be the manufacturer. Greenstone is the probably what was filled.

Re: ALT00 (# 18) Expand Referenced Message

I am not trying to be judgemental at all and I realize this thread is over 4 years old, but just in case you happen to read it, I felt I should share some info and also if u do read this let me know how you and the child are. First off, and you may know this now but about 6 years ago we started seeing counterfeits that looked perfectly legitimate because with just few pics and a 3d printer you can make a perfect mold of any pill. The dies are public info and pill presses are everywhere.

So people started making counterfeit Xanax as well as other high value pills. Mostly only 2mg were pressed because they can charge the most for those. I'm not saying you were buying your meds illegally. But sometimes people run out of their script early or a doc tries to taper down too fast, so people with legitimate scripts and conditions supplement from illegal sources sometimes. Also perhaps someone living with you bought some of their own and you took those by accident. But it doesn't matter - what you described sounded just like what happens when people take bad tablets.

Often people throw in a little dim, benadryl, an antidepressant they have mix it up so people feel something. Many counterfeits have nothing but filler. But I wanted to say that it sounds like u got some bad Xanax. I also am curious if you had figured out that possibility over the years. Or if u went to a Dr and found out something else. I study pharmacology also pharmacokinetics, neurology and dependence, also addiction but dependence is more common. The knowledge is more useful also. So while this is an old thread u may never see my reply but if u do and u respond it actually helps that time has passed because both of us have had more time to pick up new information. And it is good for my anecdotal case writings. I write a lot of the cases I run into up into essays, journal entries and even write actual case studies up but only certain things can be called "case study" in scientific/medical terms.
