Propranolol Dose Increase, Worse Symptoms?
UpdatedMy doctor switched me over from the tablet to the sustained release capsules and doubled my dose from 80mg to 80mg twice a day. Somehow my heart arrhythmia has gotten worse. I am unable to sleep because my heart will not stop fluttering and I feel out of breath and weak.
My GP says this is normal (I'm unable to contact my cardiologist) and is just a result of my body getting used to a higher dose and to just wait it out. But how does that make sense?? How can a higher dose make my symptoms worse?
I only asked for something to be changed as I would get some mild fluttering night when my medication wore off that was irritating, this is beyond mild and is even happening two hours after I took the medication.
Is this really just my body getting used to a higher dose?

Palpitations can be a side effect of Propranolol, and it is normal for the side effects to increase, for awhile, if you start taking a higher dose. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, and increased urination.

However, it should start to taper off in severity as your body gets used to the new dosage, which may take 5 to 6 weeks. If there is no improvement by then, you should consult your doctor, again. You should also seek medical attention if you feel that you are in life threatening danger.
Are you on any other medications?
