Generally, heavy bleeding, migraines, cramping and other problematic period symptoms are caused by your estrogen being too high, in comparison to your progesterone, so upping your progesterone level may help alleviate them. Ref: However, when you first start taking it, it can cause some side effects, such as nausea, cramping, spotting, and bloating...
1 REPLY UpdatedI have just begun the gauntlet of playing with hormones. I am one of probably many women who cannot function normally with even a slight variation of hormone levels. I am afraid to take this medicine because no one knows what my correct dosage should be. I have been to two docs already and am very discouraged. However, I absolutely LOVE what this drug does for me - compared to nothing......... I know very little and want to know it all.... bb ## I quote Below More common side effects may include: Abdominal cramping, back pain, bloating, breast tenderness or pain, chest pain, constipation, coughing, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, emotional instability, fatigue, headache, hot flashes, irritability, joint pain, muscle pain, nausea, night sweats, swelling of hands and feet, upper respirat...
4 REPLIES UpdatedCould prometrium capsules (100 mg) be cut and applied directly on the skin instead of taking them orally? ## You should take them as instructed by your doctor, if they've said to take them orally, you should do so. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, spotting, irritability, and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedCan you Exercise on Prometrium & Lovenox? Hi! I am currently on prometrium and Estradiol. So I was wondering if it safe to exercise? I dont work since I am on this medication. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thanks! ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Unless your doctor has specified otherwise, it should be fine for you to exercise. However, if you're taking Lovenox, be careful, as you can bruise much easier and, if you cut yourself, you may bleed more than usual, as reported by the FDA. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply. Mary
2 REPLIES UpdatedDoes anyone notice acute side pain while taking this? Right side. Didn't notice pain when not taking it , but have taken it steady for a week and my side hurts . Weird side effect or something else? Have had this pain before and been on prometrium for about. 3 years ## It is hard to say what could cause such a symptom. It may be due to the Prometrium, or it could be completely unrelated. Have you consulted your doctor to have it checked out?
1 REPLY UpdatedLast month my cycle was thrown completely off, I started AF exactly one week before it was due and it lasted nearly 10 days. I went to the doctor and I got blood work done and a vaginal ultrasound. Everything was ok, except that the lining of my uterus was super thin. She prescribed me Prometrium to take daily before bed time. The first day or so wasn't bad. I am now on day 9 of taking this medication and I'm curious about a few things. First, I know that Prometrium can cause bloating and cramping, but I'm getting very sharp pains when I have to urinate or go number 2. Also, when I try to eat, even after eating one bite I get sharp stomach pains... Eating is almost like torture the past couple of days. Another thing I noticed, that has never happened to me is sticky, thick, ...
1 REPLY UpdatedIs there a lower dose than 100 mg of Prometrium? ## Hi Kathryn, From what I could gather, 100mg is the lowest dose available... I just read an article saying that Prometrium Capsules are available in multiple strengths to afford dosage flexibility for optimum management; however, these Prometrium Capsules are only noted to contain 100 mg or 200 mg micronized progesterone (Which tells me that they do not in-fact offer it in "multiple strengths"; but rather, just a couple unfortunately). I hope this helps!
1 REPLY UpdatedI used Progesterone for 2 months and developed leg cramps shortly after using. They only got worse so I was told to discontinue this but wonder how long before the leg cramps go away? ## Leg cramps and spasms, normal walking impossible, leg muscles weak and not responsive because normal passive messages not being communicated properly. Hypertensive medication and/or medication for cholesterol is responsible for this condition in all cases where this side effect applies. I''ve had some relief after many years with my current prescription medication, namely vasocardol am, karvezide pm.
1 REPLY UpdatedI am on Vagi-Fem (25mcg vaginal cream) twice per week for vaginal dryness. I've been instructed by my new doctor to take Prometrium (100mg) for 12 days every other month to make sure my endometrium is not thickening. I have not heard of this type of hormone replacement therapy before. I am post-menopause 12 years now. Is this a new therapy? What are the benefits/side effects? ## Prometrium has been on the market since 1998, it contains Progesterone. So, it is not really new. Have you tried asking your doctor or pharmacist for more information? ## Thank you for replying. This isn't the first time I've been on HRT but it is the first time I've been told to add the progresterone to balance out such a small dose of vaginal cream. I'm wondering if it is overload. My doc s...
