Prolia Side Effects (Page 99) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
@Canadian~you have to report to Health Canada. That is your version of the FDA. The FDA is only in the US and regulates drugs in the USA. Health Canada regulates drugs in all of Canada. You will have to look on the internet for their complete address where one writes the complains or call your Doctor and tell them you want to contact Health Canada. How do I do it? Make sure you have a written list because you don't want to leave anything out and also call Amgen too as they have to report what is reported to them to the appropriate Federal agency. Hugs~Pood

Shout out to C Louise for sharing this information with me. Hope all you who have been here for a while are feeling better.
Poodle, can the acupuncture help the self healing of my big thigh fracture (crack). The needle stimulates the muscle/cells as to provide oxygen/energy to the broken part- could it be speed up the recovery period?
I had told all the doctors about what I was suffering. They knew it but just don't wanted to say that was from Prolia. Even the last doctor changed his words "the fracture may not befrom Prolia", he once said it was from Prolia.

Tegan! Sadly we can't tell you what to do but I only know that I would NEVER, EVER take Prolia. Not what I saw it do to my dad plus reading all the stories of what it did to many others on this site. It just plain makes me sick. There is nothing that can be done to get this drug out of your system once it's in you IF you should have problems from it. Best of luck in making your heavy decision.
Nancy - I thought I was about symptom free now at almost a year. My back is so horribly bad I cannot roll over to get out of bed in the morning now. Honestly, it takes me one hour to get out of bed. The pain is incredible. Cannot lift my own legs either. I have to grab the top of the pj leg and pull slowly so I can get them moving one at a time out of the bed. I have never known pain like this for zero reason. It has to have something to do with that miserable Prolia -- 70 feeling 110. This has just started in the last few weeks. It's definitely not my arthritis acting up as the weather has been good without changes and I've been taking my arthritis med. Just when I think I have something pretty well figured out -- woofie, here's another.
Thanks Poodle, Actually Forteo hasn't caused onj, I think you may be thinking of fosamax, one of the biophosphonates? It has been used to treat onj and to heal fractures in people who used biophosphonates or prolia etc. and are having fractures that won't heal. see the link below:
Forteo May Help Treat Jaw Osteonecrosis
Forteo is not an anti-resorptive, it's an anabolic which stimulates the osteoblasts more than it stimulates osteoclasts so it helps to build bone, it mostly affects the bone building I believe. It has been associated with higher rates of osteosarcoma, which according to Lani Simpson's book, usually happens in adolescence so it's safer for adults who are facing osteoporosis and un- healing fractures. It isn't usually used in people who have had cancer but some doctors according the LS book are using it in people who passed the 5 year mark cancer free who have advanced osteoporosis and who have no other alternatives.
Forteo is synthetic pth hormone. It can cause elevated calcium levels in some people. It's only used for 2 years usually. My friend used it and she had a good result, she also used calcitonin. I can't use forteo right now anyway due to other health issues. I'm also wondering if my evaluation is even accurate now because I'm a petite woman and I read that the bone density scan is more inaccurate, with an already 30% error rate, in small women who generally have lower bone density to start with. My hip is still osteopenia and my lumbar spine is osteoporosis but it has only gotten worse by -.2 and -.3 in 4 years, not a huge increase in the score. I just wonder who I can go to in my area to see if it's a faulty result.
At this point I don't want to take any drugs, I will try exercise and diet etc. and prunes. The prunes are starting to get to me with gas and stomach upset though, lol. I think they lowered my ldl cholesterol.
thanks poodle, I have posted a reply but it needs to be reviewed because I included a link for forteo I think- forteo doesn't cause onj, it is used to treat that and fractures.. it's an anabolic that builds bone. It has been associated with higher incidence of osteosarcoma a rare bone cancer but that seems rare. I have to read more about it. It is safer for people who have fractures that won't heal from biophosphonates/anti-resorptives. You stay well too... I hope you're feeling better each day. :-)
Pood, Oh No! Thought you were doing better, I was just thinking to myself is this ever going to end? I have like needles down my arms and sooo stiff, I think about your words of encouragement and gives me hope, now you are sick again, so sorry
I as told calcium citrate is better to take and do t take all the dosage together body can only absorb so much at a time
Sheri~You are a very fast learner young lady. You just made mama bear's day!! Hugs and stay well~Pood
Sheri~YUP. Dr. said it was just my new hip acting up. It has grown some bone around it but still has a long way to go -- a year he said so 6 more months to go. I seem to be 'normal' in that department so the Prolia must not be bothering me. He gave me a Rx but I'll have to check if I can have it or not. Hugs~Pood
Rene~that is a good choice if one wants to pay the extra money. One can nibble on it and not have to take the large doses. What you just wrote sounds just like my Primary and it is totally untrue with Prolia in the body. That's for ordinary people that want a supplement, not those of us on Prolia or trying to build a lot of bone. If it were true, why would my calcium tests come in just a tiny bit high? Prolia demands a lot of calcium and it's not at all picky from where it gets it. I would prefer it not get it from my muscles. Stay well~Pood
Sorry, your new hip is acting up but at least you know that will be Ok . Feel good, and again thanks for all your support. Sheri
Just had my eyes checked there was a substantial change from one year to the next, maybe another side effect of Prolia. Since I had shot 2 times since last time I got my eyes checked.
Sheri~according to Amgen the only eye problem with Prolia is cataracts of which I got. It was removed one day before the 'magic day' and the eye surgeon says I am getting a secondary on it already. I don't know why they call it a secondary as it is just scar tissue. I don't notice it yet but he could see it. If it is worrying you, call your optometrist and ask if s/he checked in there really well and can I be developing a cataract you did not notice. My optometrist missed the secondary. My eye surgeon saw it. That should take care of any and all fears you are having. With a cataract growing your vision would change that quickly. Hang in there girl~Pood
They did check for anything inside no cataracts. It was just odd, since my eyes hadn't changed in years. Thanks, Pood
Also, Diana - call your local pharmacies and ask if they have any Prolia in. If they do, ask them to please photocopy all the info in the box. It has all the side effects listed on it too. It's just a matter that our Doctors 'think' they know everything and don't bother to read the instructions with all the possible side effects on it. Mine did not even give it to me subcutaneously. I got it in the arm that is not supposed to be used for anything -- mastectomy side - and she jabbed that needle straight in as if it were a flu shot. Even if they don't happen to have any Prolia in at the time, their computer should have all the side effects of Prolia in it. It's like when we get anything filled, we get sheets of information that 99.99999% of the time is garbage. With Prolia, it's a gold mine. Be well~
OK. I will stay on FDA and AmGen - until I find what I need, maybe just one more voice will eventually add up. I agree with the importance of an immunologist - I think having Crohns would be an indication that I might not have been a good candidate for this drug. Now they told me Prolla has less side effects than the other popular new one - that's scary.
Glad to hear it helped you truly. I wish it had helped everyone. Best of recovery to you.
