Prolia Side Effects (Page 93)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
so sorry - - I know what dentistry costs now - crowns, etc....exhorbitant, unbelievebly high priced. Not to mention the exhaustion of running back and forth - - and just having work done, takes so much out of an already depleted system.
I started Prolia 8 mos. ago; and a miserable 8 months they have been. My symptoms are severe muscle and joint pain. Although my pain is body wide, in particular, I experience severe jaw and neck pain; and the top of my thighs and hips. In addition, I have crushing fatigue. To top it off, in spite of loss of appetite, I have gained 10 pounds. No more Prolia for me!
I am an eighty year old active female. I visit the gym almost daily and use a rowing machine and the treadmill half an hour each. I took one dose of Prolia in October and a week later the calf in my right leg was so sore I could not stand on it without pain. Then it radiated up to the thigh. My doctor ordered x rays and an ultra sound and all proved negative. The pain abated but I would still wake up at night with cramps. Within a month the numbness and pain returned. My doctor insisted it could not be a drug reaction because it was localized. Lately I have an unexplained soreness in my rib cage. My question is how long do these symptoms last? My next inj. is due in April but I am not taking it.
My first injection was last July, by Sept. I had tremendous painful stiffness. Turned out Prolia caused low calcium ( because Prolia pulled too much calcium from my body . This in turn caused an elevation in my Parathyroid. It was a triple whammy. Both low calcium, high Parathyroid cause the same symptoms as Prolia side effects. I had to take massive doses of Calcium. Now my calcium and Parathyroid are normal . In January my lab results were normal, against my better judgement, I took another dose of Prolia,; I do have spinal fractures, so I grudgingly took it . My lab results are still normal, do what I am dealing with is just side effects. I cancelled my next appointment for Prolia, but that is not until July ??. So I still have months to go feeling miserable and continuing to gain weight, in spite of poor appetite. I am following a high calcium diet( when I can eat),
switched to Calcium Phosphate
and bought a weighted vest. I just learned of a supplement called Ostinol which I am considering.
Is anyone familiar with it?
I forgot to mention another side effect that I experience:. I cough constantly.
I take a supplement called
Osteoben.
I am still so fatigued that exercise is hard to do. Gets and nausea add to my energy loss. My body fighting the prolia depletes me. Also much difficulty sleeping and staying asleep adds to it all.
Are you healing from impjants more slowly than average? Were you needing bone graft? I gave 2 nedbg grafting and 2 that do not.
I just had my entire uppers pulled last Thursday and it will be sometime before I have the implants, then 4 months until he put the teeth in. I am miserable and can't eat because my gums are so sore. I am so mad at the drug company that made Prolia.
My dentist says I won't need bone grafts. Thankful for that because I thought I would. What angers me is I have always had good dental hygiene and went to the dentist every 6 months.
Kitty, re: your Feb 04, 2017 post (#1714), I found the info today. Check out this link:
accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/appletter/2017/125320orig1s180ltr.pdf
Sorry if you've already found this; I just read your post today.
I had my first shot of Prolia on the 31st of March. Six days later I am completely disabled, have lost at least 7 pounds, cannot eat, have horrible joint pain, muscular fatigue, inflammation of the skin on several parts of my body.... I wish I had never tried this medication.
You poor thing! It was the same for me. It's been two years or more, I still have nerve pain, intestinal problems, skin issues. I always had really nice skin b4 P. I thought I would try it....had no idea of such debilitating side effects.
I had my 1st shot of Prolia today and 2 hours after that I developed a sharp pain in the right side of my neck which extends down into my collarbone. Has anyone had a similar experience?
The pain goes from my ear, to my jaw to my collar bone. This didn't start until 3 mos. after my first injection. Pain is not the only issue, I have stiffness as well. Finally saw a facial pain specialist who gave me injections of local anesthetic; that lasted 2 weeks .
Sal~I have that pain still to a small degree after being off of Prolia for a few years. I thought I was getting ONJ so I went to my dentist and he could see nothing wrong with my jaw but when he touched a certain muscle in there I about flew out of the chair. The best you can do for it is 'dry needling' which is based on acupuncture but done by a physical therapist. That should give you relief of that miserable problem. Hopefully you can find someone where you live. Be well~Pood
Christine~I just posted an answer to Sal and it goes for you too. That is the only known way to get rid of it. Years after Prolia I still have it to a small degree. If you cannot find a Physical Therapist to do it, an acupuncturist can do the same. Be well~Pood
Kitty~ My back has already fractured in 4 places after stopping Prolia. By making Amgen put this on the label and advertising could cause women to not quit it for fear of the fractures. To me it looks to be a large win for Amgen as women will now be afraid to quit it even though it is causing them irreparable harm. Do you see where I am coming from here? Hugs~Pood
Many thanks for support. In fact, I have an extraordinary Acupuncturist who also does dry needling. I will be making an appointment; problem is, she is not local, and I have not been up to the 4 hour round trip. The shoulder pain and limitation which I experience is beyond belief. I think it is a frozen shoulder. Again, I have an extraordinary psychiatrist, also in New York City. I will be seeing him next week. This is do discouraging. I spent a lifetime with chronic musculoskeletal pain, had major surgery with a lengthy, challenging recovery, finally I felt better than ever; and now this?
Thanks for that info Pood. Now I am really scared as I've already suffered a burst fracture of T12 4 years ago that required 6.5 hour surgery and now have significant deterioration of L1/L2 disc requiring me to wear a Jewitt brace. Wish specialists would tell us of all of these side effects so that we could make an informed decision before starting these wretched drugs
I'm a 68 ye old female with Addison's Disease, blood clots, and a broken arm, from falling on it while walking in park. I have severe osteoporosis. My doctor just advised me to take Prolea. After reading all of the side effects, I will not take this or any other drug for my bones. I have taken Prednisone for 33 years. ??
