Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

as you should then know, there is never an end to half lives. They go on to infinity. The nurses at Amgen told me I should start feeling better close to the end of my fifth month. They do seem like they really care about us and are documenting every adverse effect we are getting from Prolia. It seems to me that AMGEN is more interested in me than the FDA is. I just had huge swelling in one foot and ankle. Was wondering -- is this a DVT or is it edema from Prolia. I kept my foot on the top of the sofa for a day and then worked in the yard the next with tight stocking and shoes and it was edema from Prolia. I have to go to my dentist this coming week as I am either getting ONJ or it has caused a tooth to act up. NEVER AGAIN!!

I'm so thankful when people post their outcome on here after months or years of Prolia. I wish we could know the outcome of everyone who has the injection no matter how long. I always wonder if there's anyone who fully recovers, conditions continuing to worsen, did you get anywhere with anyone listening to you? The side effects are going mostly unreported by medical professionals and the reporting should NOT be left solely up to the patients even though it IS left up to us.

I have been preparing for dentures; getting teeth removed and some surgery for bone coming out of my gums. Friday I was told there will be no dentures, the bone surgery has not healed in a month, more bone is extruding. I'm told it is due to an ingredient in PROLIA. Any more extractions will have the same result. Just as it inhibits bones from healing in the rest of my body, so it goes for my mouth. I was told by the surgeon that it did not matter it I quit taking it, it's in my bones now. The only teeth I have remaining on top, 4 of them, are in absolute disgusting condition.

I was bulimic for 33 years. I'm 67 years old. My osteoporosis is -3.4. So, I created the osteoporosis by being a bulimic. In April a blood test revealed a CEA level of 9.6. CEA is a marker for cancer, 3.4 is normal, 9.6 usually means cancer is somewhere. A subsequent blood test had a CEA level of 9.3. I've had a colonoscopy, EDG, Mammogram and Lung CT, nothing has materialized. The news from the dentist was shocking, so I looked on the internet for any POLIA legal suits and found this site. Something has to be done! A side note: I take several pain medications for several spinal degenerates; Fentanyl, Lyrical and hydrocodone.

I am so sorry to hear of all your misfortunes due to the Prolia shot (s). How many Prolia shorts did you have? I only had one, but also have bone, teeth issues, this is why I am asking.

Glad to hear you have not had any side effects. That is encouraging. I had my first Prolia shot today. After reading all the horrible side effects from this site it's frightening. Hopefully I will be like you.

Elyse. Please Please keep us all informed from time to time as to how you are.

It had nothing to do with what you did previously. AMGEN states that Prolia causes basal cell carcinomas (skin cancer) which can then make it's way inside the body. You probably have a little patch someplace you cannot see and it has invaded your body. This is why you are showing positive. Not being a MD or a nurse -- just putting 2+2 together to equal 4. Have your Docs check your skin really, really well. They will find it. You may have to go to a large city to get an excellent Oncologist (cancer Dr.). Just about all cancer is treatable now so please don't fret over that horrible 'C' word.

Had my first Prolia injection on June 24th. So far no problems.

I am 70 also. My rheumatologist had me on 10-20 mgs of Pred/day for a year which ate up my bones. Then she gives me this poison to supposedly build up my bones. There will never be another Prolia injection in my life. Eventually, someone will come up with a different drug that will work and not kill us. I only had the one injection the latter part of April. I cannot go to the grocery store or be near other people. I get whatever they have. I'm trapped inside my own home in misery. I bought some Co-Q10 as one person posted here that it helped her. Maybe it will help me too. I also take narcotic pain killers to dull the pain, not get rid of it. I'm in the care of a Psychiatrist for the insomnia part and a Cardiologist for another part. My Primary Care Doc doesn't know what to do about it. I wanted to go to PT, but I would have to be around other people so that cannot happen. I used to have a life but I would not call now 'living'.

I'm sorry for your problems. I have been fighting with the side effects for 10 months. The low dose Prednisone is the only way for me to stay functional. Yes, I know that it is very bad for my bones. I really get little help from the Drs. Nobody seems to know how to treat a Prolia allergy. I have had 2 prolia shots, the last on January 20, 2015. Never again. I can only hope that it will eventually work its way out of my system.
I am also 70 and was healthy and active. Now I am neither.

Also, total hip replacement and total knee replacement are off until I get my immune system back which could be as much as 18 months from now. Dealing with the side effects of Prolia and the definite pain of needing replacements on top of the pain from Prolia makes life very, very miserable. I cannot even go to a grocery store without catching something that's in the air. Satan, himself, could not have devised a worse life than life with Prolia.

There is a type of shot that is called a "Modeling". (I'm pretty sure that's what they are called) . It was my first choice but very new 2 years ago. My doctor is looking into them as an alternative.

I've had 3. Before I started the dental work I had only one. I did not receive the medical information that comes with the shot.

Pat, I read yesterday that your dentist should have you on a strong dose of amoxicillin and some kind of a mouth wash. The two combined, kill all the bad bacteria in your mouth so that it will heal. Has your dentist done this or just treated you as a 'normal' patient? The reason I was looking is because I am sure I'm getting the ONJ. I can only have soft foods and it hurts like hades to yawn. This is 2-1/2 months after injection 1 which is not supposed to happen but it does seem to be.

Prolia is 'modeling'. You don't want it no matter what your Dr. says. Just look at all the side effects. You will get them and many that are not listed yet. A very BAD drug.

Has anyone been on or does anyone know of an alternative treatment for osteoporosis? I know I have to take something but what is a good "something"? I figure this site is as good a place as any to get good feedback from those of us who are going through osteoporosis. Thanks for any help provided.

Pat, what your Doctor is looking at is Prolia. It is also called 'modeling'. Do NOT do it. It has too many BAD side effects for the benefit and when you stop it, your T-score will go back to where it was before Prolia so you will be suffering for zero reason. Doctors don't know much about Prolia yet. It's too new. Go to AMGEN's website and look for Prolia under the drugs they make and you will find many BAD side effects. There are more listed on the net on other sites about drugs. It supposedly only exists for those of us which the other previous drugs did not build up the bone. I believed my MD and did not check it out. I really should have checked it out very well before having 1 injection as there will never be another if I live through this one. Please do not trust your MD and do your own research on Prolia. Do you really want a very weak immune system? That you will get for 100% sure together with what else is listed. It's your body so you can say No Thank You to Prolia.

Poodle: Please post the Amgen number you have mentioned. I have been on the Amgen web site and I am unable to find this number.
