Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Cheryl,
I wonder if the weird lip feeling and the numbness in the extremities is elated to calcium being depleted from those regions? The warnings on the advertising for Prolia mentions such. When the issues are in the mouth I worry that it is a first step to ONJ.
The other side effects I have experienced since February are: digestive issues, weight gain/bloating, fatigue, and hair loss.
I haven't had a DEXA scan to see if there has been improvement in my bone loss, but I am not in Osteoporosis territory yet.
How about you? How did the Prolia effect you and did it supposedly help with anything?

Had calcium levels checked and they were ok, so that isn't the problem. I had same thing happen with Boniva with the exception of the lip tingling and the numbness in legs and feet went away about a month after taking the Boniva. I explained this to drug rep and she told me and my staff tha there were "no" side effects with Prolia, and unfortunately I believed her. Also after reading about all of these so called "bone builder" medicines I found out that these medications build bone, but not good bone....they make "brittle" bones. Look up and start reading about the difference in good bone vs brittle bone. I will never take any of this stuff again.....

Sheba, if you are perfectly healthy person, why would you want to have a shot of Prolia in the first place? The persons who have written about the side affects are real people, who are suffering, and since I fractured my wrist, falling on ice, have no osteo - the doc didn't tell me of side affects. Yes, I too was healthy before the shot, but afterwards it was nothing but hell. We have better things to do with our time, then to sit and complain on the web about imaginery side affects.
Keep well Prolia girl.

l think it is simplistic and equally dangerous to dismiss others thoughts and words because you didnt experience same. How many people are dismissed over their experience,s, by medical experts, and publlic, l had intersticial cystitus dismissed as gyny, hormoneal, to phycalogical, nuerotic, etc. over many many years of ill health and severe pain, affecting my lifestyle and family, eventually scope and specialist did id and treat. My friend had prolia and was affected badly by it, if you or anyone else, all free to post, say they havent been, and done well with it, acknowledged
with good wishes. About keeping an open mind to all experiences.

Prolia Girl - I would say to your comment that you are a Rep. for Prolia and don't want to lose your job. I think all the reps should have the shot before selling the product, then have their comments posted. We are all suffering from horrible side effects that are not in our head. My Dr. will vouch for that he has seen my swollen hands and ankles. Can't even see where my ankle bone is because of the swelling. Also in a lot of pain and I don't get much sleep.

Hi,
am a 57 year old female and am due for my 3rd Prolia injection next month. So far all has gone well. Am having a bone density scan in a few weeks so am interested in seeing whether there has been an improvement.

Should be interesting. Let us know if the bone density has improved. Glad you didn't have any problems.

My wife took 2 shots of Prolia over one year - 6 months apart. After the second shot the reactions have been horrible and painful The other day we went to the emergency room because of severe abdominal pain. The doctor found nothing and recommended 4 laxatives!!!!! even though my wife told them she had no real problem with bowels. However, she has also suffered from jaw pain, gastric problems, bloating, overall bone pain. She did not have osteoporosis but thinning bones, now she has a painful like. She has always been in god health until this shot, but, of course, the doctor doesn't agree. I have never seen one medicine affect so many parts of the body. After reading all the replies in this forum, I am convinced it's Prolia. Can anyone tell me when it finally leaves the body? Has anyone found help? This drug must be banned!

Just read the many negative comments re Prolia. I was on Calcitonin nasal spray for 2 years - just stopped it this week. My Doc gave me info on Prolia and asked me to review it and decide. I am 74 years old with Osteoporosis - no other health problems at present. Anyone think I should try Prolia - or should I just pass and take more Calcium with Vitamin D? Sorry to hear that so many have had such severe side effects to Prolia. I do have acid reflux so perhaps this is another reasdon to pass on Prolia. Any suggestions for me? The Rat Lady awaits your reply.

Please try your own therapy - the 6 month injection of Prolia is not reversable once into your blood stream, and they don't know if and when it will leave - with pills, you can stop, with injections, there is no guarantee.
Try anything else before taking this very new item, I also have gastro reflux and it just got worse, not to mention many more side affects. Your doctor was wise to tell you of the side affects and then some - others were not so fortunate. Use the side of caution.

Thank you Faith.
I did some further research and I see that if you have had thyroid surgery you are not to take Prolivia. I had my thyroid destroyed with Radioactive Iodine 1131 in 2003 --- so I think that alone should exclude me from using Prolia as well. And - I seem to be very sensitive to drugs anyway - if there is a side effect - I seem to get it and a few more! Oh well - I will tell my Doc "no dice" to Prolia and ask if there is anything else he can suggest. It is scarey to be told you are at high risk for spine fracture -- I am 74 and since my husband died 2 years ago I have been travelling "solo" in my RV. I still plan to head out for the winter in the south....Mississippi here I come...but I will take lots of Calcium and Vitamin D and try to get more exercise. I do cut my lawn (usually close to two hours) and do other household chores....so I get some exercise. Thanks again Faith for responding.

Alexis all you have to do is read all the comments on this web site.
I have had 3 shots and wishes now I never had them.
I also had thyroid surgery and know now that I never should have been prescribed this Prolia.
My specilaist should have known better.
It's been 11 months ago since my last shot and still suffering from site effects.

I am feeling so incredibly bad after reading all these posts. My mother, who is 85 years old, fell and broke her hip and wrist 5 months ago. She is doing well, but 4 weeks ago her doctor wanted to do a reclast injection but when we got to the appointment her blood test had indicated some issues with her kidneys so they decided to switch to prolia injection. We were told there are no side affects and from all their reports is an excellant drug and works well. I should have done more research before letting them proceed. But we went ahead with it that very day, putting our trust in the doctor. My mother has been complaining of her bones severely aching mostly in her back and legs. She told me about a sore in her mouth which was very odd and we had no idea why she had this. Her feet and ankles are also VERY swollen (although this happens from time to time so really didn't pay much attention to this at the time. She is in bed a good majority of the time. My father passed away 1 month ago and I thought mom was going through a bit of depression because of all the time spend in bed (which I have been getting on her case about - now I feel absolutely horrible). Is there ANYTHING I can do or give her to help eleviate some of her pain? She does take lortabs a couple of times a day for general aches and body pain for her hip and some pretty bad preexisting scoliosis. But I am feeling a bit guilty for encouraging her to get this shot and not doing my research on this... Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Cathy,
Sure the others who,ve had prolia can give you advice, lve not had it, but was checking out site for a friend who had it at 82 following breaking her arm, and like many on here suffered very badly with pain and other things, she refused the second one, so now just over a year since lst shot and some of symptoms easing, she since had the spinal injection for her osteo pagett,s probs, helped. l can understand how you feel about encouraging your mum and now feeling guilty, think that happens to many of us in one way or another, l thought my mum was doing the right thing having major surgery on the advice of consultant, who she trusted so much, l was a bit iffy as she,d been having infections
supposedly treated, but they returned severely from straight after op, but we all to some extent, put trust in the medical profession, and dont always think or expect to research things on the net, shouldnt have to really, but seems we do more now. Anyway, sure youll get advice on alternative,s, good wishes to your mum and yourself.
Rat Lady, wow, way to go, wish l could join you, go for it and good luck.

Hi Rat Lady: I watched a program (Dr.Oz) on what the drug companies don't want you to know the cures of Natural meds. One of the products he mentioned for Ostio was Strontium Support which you can purchase at Health Stores. I am taking it and a friend has been taking it for a year and her bone scans have been much better. My next injection is August 13th but I will not be getting it. I am too sore, acid reflux, mouth sores, swollen hands and feet ,fluid in my ears and my last shot was Feb 13/12. Scarborough, Ont. Happy motoring. Irene

Irene, I also was recommended to take Strontium. As I had mentioned before, I strongly urge all to get with a first class Pharmacist you trust. Also, one that does compunding. Although he is a Pharmacist, he is so against drugs in the body and truly believes in Alternative medicine. He has me drug free, and so thankful I read all about Prolia before taking the injection. To replace the Fosamax I was on for about 4 years, he has me on Calcium w/Magnesiam. I take this twice a day. Also, he put me on Strontium. Just remember, do not take this with a milk product. Praying when I get my next Bone Density, I see improvement. Good luck to all, and I am praying for all that have taken the Prolia shot.

Hi Irene and Hi Dee
Thanks for the tip ref the Strontium - I will do some research. I am so impressed with all of the info I have found on this forum - there is certainly lots of food for thought ref Prolia. I am waiting for a reply from my Doc but I wrote him a note and said "no" to Prolia. I found some info on line ref a "Wellness belt" and there is a claim that it can reverse osteoporosis. I am checking this out -- may try to make one for my own use and see if it will help. Meanwhile - many thanks for all of the guidance - all is appreciated. (And in the past I have tried Fosomax, Evista and Actonel - terrible reactions - and Calcitonin helped....but after 2 years I started to get side effects...and with the current warnings...I chose to quit.)
I will research Strontium!
