Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Poodle (# 2531) Expand Referenced Message

I came to this site a short time ago and appreciate all of the time you put into responding and sharing your knowledge. If it is not too personal, I would like to know if you are a medical person (dr, nurse, biologist, holistic med, etc) or if you have gleaned your knowledge from experience and individual research? Are you similar to a website manager or are just able and willing to provide ongoing support for all of us? Thanks.

Look at Prolia.com. Amgen, the manufacturer of Prolia has a site up for just Prolia and this year has totally revised Amgen's home page. You will see on the Prolia.com that it is NOT advised for people like you. Read thru the side effects they admit to and the precautionary info and you will find it in there. You probably will have to show it to your Rx'ing Dr. to make that person aware. Be well~

Thanks for sgaring your experience. I developed hyperthyroïdism after the first and only shot.... lost 20 pounds in 2 and a half weeks.... developed the ophtalmological disorder (Grave’s) and am now hospitalized while traveling in SouthAmerica because of optical nerve compression that left me nearly blind. All the health problems I have are due to Prolia and I only had one shot in March of 2017. Please note that AMGEN changes their info page on Prolia as they learn more FROM US, who never sigbed to be part if a clinical trial and ended up being their subjects in an experiment on this horrible drug.

One more thing, be sure your calcium levels are checked, and don't let them talk you out of it. My levels were dangerously low and my complaints were blown off. I went out of state to a previous Dr. of mine and right away he ordered blood tests. I turned out to have dangerously low calcium. I was furious !

My doctor also said none of his patients had any side effects from Prolia. When I called about mine I was told they were definitely not related to Prolia. When I did my own research I discovered that Prolia had the same side effects on others. I don't feel the doctor had any ulterior motive... he probably was just not aware and perhaps no one else made the connection to Prolia and reported side effects to him. However, that does not lessen the discomfort. Amgen needs to step up and report the side effects to the public.

I agree that some Drs need to be advocates for their patients. I waited for months and did research prolia but there are still information that I haven’t seen until lately. I would appreciate if I could find a Dr that would believe that I know my body and I know the health issues that I have had since I had my first shot are side effects of Prolia. I am months away from the end of this 6 month period but then I am done. My back has improved but my hips and legs are worse. What I would like to know is why this is the go to drug when even the companies recommendation say to use it if nothing else works?

Ps. When I was diagnosed with Osteo I saw a specialist who supported my not taking meds. Unfortunately I developed2 vertebral fractures and then I got scared so I agreed to take Prolia; I was afraid of becoming hunched over. Later I learned from a Physiatrist ( the one who developed Yoga for Osteoporosis) that the type of fracture I had wouldn't have resulted in a ( hunchback).

Re: Lois (# 2550) Expand Referenced Message

About 3 years since 1 shot of Prolia, I still have reoccurring attacks of hip pain. But shorter intervals. Also dreadful skin issues come and go. I quit eating flour, sugar...anything that might contribute to inflammation. I take a product called Bone Up, and Magnesium supplements. Had a tumor removed from parathyroid. Bone density has increased significantly my Dr says.

I haven't used it because I use others, but isn't the one from Save Our Bones?
If so, I think it credible..

Re: Lois (# 2571) Expand Referenced Message

This is NOT a chemo drug. Xgeva was developed to build bone in certain cancer patients when the treatment damaged the bone. I have written this various times on this site. Prolia is also the same thing in a lesser amount and less often to build bone mass in women with osteoporosis or osteopenia. This does not mean in the least it is a good or safe drug. It has horrendous side effects that can last long after the drug is stopped. Some women can tolerate it while others cannot. It really does not help bones that much because it deposits old bone on old bone so it is denser but still fractures easily. In France, Amgen, the manufacturer of Prolia, is conducting the study on whether or not France should accept it. Seems very flawed to me and also to women in France. I sincerely hope this clarifies the use of Xgeva and Prolia in women. I have also noticed that Amgen has created a website specifically for Prolia and this year has also changed their website considerably. Be well~

After my 1st injection I felt tired and achy for about 3 days, then I was fine. However, after my 2nd time 6 weeks ago, I am getting worse everyday. Itching, bone pain, stomach issues, groin and thigh pain. I also fell for the 1st time in my life. Vertigo wakes me from sleep as well. The only relief , which isn't much, my dr prescribed steroids. I pray everyday tomorrow it'll stop.

Well, I sure sucfeted from rashes and hives while on Prolia. Now, 1 1/2 since my last shot it has flared again; ing with the painful, swollen joints that I did not experience prior to Prolia. My Derm
was convinced I t was due to Prolia.

The good news is that my Cholesterol numbers are finally improving. This is something else I developed during Prolia. My Dr. advised medication but I refused. Finally, there is progress and she isn't urging meds.

I am beginning to experience the joint pain. I had an episode ( and they are increasing in number) where this incredible pain shot into the joint... it felt like lightening had struck. It lasted maybe 30 seconds, but it was excruciating and I was totally helpless. It just rifles through the bone. I am hoping this is a anomaly.

Sorry you are so sick.
Have them check for parathyroid tumor! Worked for me. I'm much better except after some years still suffering damage to hip post Prolia.

Re: Norma Yuce (# 2587) Expand Referenced Message

I believe getting ok from Doc to discontinue Prolia injections is a scare tactic -- I decided to just say NO! For me it was a full year before I felt like I might be improving. I am convinced my symptoms of continued weight loss, extreme weakness (literally had to sit to brush my teeth) plus some additional symptons mentiond by others. I'm convinced all issues, were a result of Prolia. After I began injections sick everyday for almost 2yrs and was off work for 2 months end of yr 2016. I didn't think I would ever be functional again. It's been a year & 4 mos since my last Prolia injection & am feeling 100% better. Hopefully it will just be a matter of time once you decide to stop.

I'm going to be 80 in a couple of months. Osteoporosis runs in my family--even my brother has it. I've had two vertebrae fractures in the last four years, but am still showing up in tests as "osteopenia." Spine doctor says after two spontaneous fractures, they list you as having osteoporosis anyway. Just finished two years of Forteo injections daily with no side effects. I'm scheduled to start Prolia injections this week but am thinking of backing out after reading of so many bad experiences. The first shipment is scheduled to arrive this morning. Don't know what to do--I am relatively healthy for a woman my age and must stay in good shape to care for my 83-year-old hubby who has Alzheimer's. Any comments or advice from past Prolia users would be appreciated.

Re: TexasNana (# 2606) Expand Referenced Message

Not being a Dr. and not knowing your medical history, I wouldn't want to advise you against it. Since most Dr.'s seem invested in prescribing it, it is hard to get an unbiased opinion. That being said, it still might be worth it. I do advise you to do research so that you can be prepared with questions. There are reports on line that give different criteria different from most practioner. There are also a couple of informative sights such as : Save Our Bones and Better Bones Blog. In addition there is an easy 15 minute work out on DVD called TTAPP. Many people have improved bone density from that. This work out can be done by anyone at any fitness level.
One more thing, is your Dr. an Endocrinologist ? If not I do suggest you see one. They are specialists in Osteo. It is appalling to read about Dr.'s other then specialists this toxic drug that deems to have no prescribing criteria.

Re: sal (# 2607) Expand Referenced Message

My doctor is an Endocrinologist and told me there were no side effects from Prolia. I am now looking for another doctor after he was upset with me because I refused to take another injection. I feel like loosing all of my top teeth was enough, plus pain in my legs. Also two weeks after my one and only injection, my stomach went up into my esophagus and I almost died. This may or may not have anything to do with Prolia but I will never take this poison drug again.

Weight gain? I wondered because no matter what I do can’t lose weight. I would be the perfect example of diet. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol. I swim 45 min a day. I can’t wait.
