Prolia Side Effects (Page 60) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Re: Judy (# 2388)
I was on actonel for a year.. it interacted really badly with my esophagus, Stopped using it. Dr. recommended Prolia instead.... frying pan to fire...
Re: Lizzie (# 2393)
Have you thought about taking a Magnesium supplement to help your muscles? We really cannot store calcium in the human body and the only place for Prolia to get any is in our muscles. The Magnesium should straighten out that problem if, indeed, it is muscles causing the leakage. It could be a quick fix for your problem. Be well~Pood
Re: Giralda (# 2410)
I am so very sorry for your loss. It would seem to me that you have a great chance to file a medical malpractice suit. I suggest you contact an attorney immediately due to the Statute of Limitations. With deepest sympathy~

Re: Magnesium. You cannot have a 'clear' gel type capsule. It has to be a hard tablet that is kelated(sp?). That should stop the diarrhea problem. If the diarrhea is only from a Magnesium supplement that is. Ask the Pharmacist when you go in about it. Magnesium is also made into Milk of Magnesia which is supposed to cause one to go to the bathroom. I got a different brand and found it to be a big problem in that area. Prolia also causes gluten intolerance that leads to diarrhea too. Going to the dentist in the morn. for casting of my crowns. FiNALLY!! Amgen should have to pay for them and the implants. Be well my friend~

Yikes, I just bought magnesium bisglycinate In gel form from a health food store. Couldn't find ant in the drug store. So far I've only taken one and no cramping etc. I'll wait and see.
Good luck with the crown casting....I'm envious. I still have a while for that. Any yes, Amgen should pay for all the dental problems they've created.
Re: Judy (# 2421)
That is not true at all, I complained to the drug company a long time ago. I lost all of my top teeth and just got my last implant. Very expensive and I think they should reimburse me but that is a dream I am sure.
Re: Edie (# 2428)
It is of a great concern that time after time they deny our symptoms are side effects. Can they ALL be on the take ?
Do they not want to be bothered following through on our complaints ? That might mean more work. I know I have mentioned this many times, but it bears repeating. At one point, I developed
Hypocalcemia and Hyperparathyroidism,
very serious conditions. 3 doctors, including the one who prescribed it blew me off. All they had to do was read the ad''s as it is listed there. Finally, Dr. Number 4 listened to me and ordered tests.
This to me is a dereliction of duty on the part of the 3 who refused to listen, especially since he is a specialist.
Diana (# 2438) --
It must be connected, but WHY won't they pay attention ? Hypocalcemia is right there in the magazine ads !
I wish you continued good health
Be well.

My white blood count was way up and only now after being off almost 2 years is it back to a more normal level.
As to doctors on the take..the doctor that gave it to me does a lot of drug testing for these companies. I know because I was in one and I'm sure they do't do it out of the goodness of their heart. When I told her of my side effects she scoffed at it and said she worked with the drug company and prolia did not cause my problems. They were all psychosomatic. !!Never went back to her office!
Re: Judy (# 2441)
That is outrageous ! Although it is illegal, they get around it by reimbursement for
praising the drugs at meetings, etc. Still, I can't believe all of them are. Is it arrogance that prevents them from listening to their patients ?
Ps one of the myriad of issues that occurred while on Prolia was that my cholesterol elevated, and has remained so. Previously my cholesterol was normal; I have no family history either.
My Dr. feels strongly that I should take meds, I disagree. Fortunately, this is a Dr. who listens.
Re: Judy (# 2441)
Unfortunately that seems to be the story with most of the doctors, not that they are necessarily doing testing for Amgen but that they will not believe that our issues have to do with Prolia. At best they say that we do not understand our bodies and at worst that we are liars.Do not allow anyone to talk you into having this poison as I have done several times but no more. You need to either change doctors or stand on your rights and be thoroughly disliked.
Re: Giralda (# 2444)
The half life of Prolia is 16 days meaning that in 16 days 1/2 of the Prolia injection is deleted from the human body, then in 16 more days another 1/2 of that half is deleted from the human body, and then in 16 more days another 1/2 of the remaining is deleted, ad nauseam until we only have a tiny molecule at the end of the 6 months duration of one injection. Just because the Prolia is gone, does not mean the side effects leave with it. They last years past a one and only injection of Prolia. You can now see how this would affect a person on dialysis. Prolia causes lots and lots of infections and many of them are bladder infections. This should give you another clue about Prolia and dialysis. There are now 3 confirmed ladies in the US with severe leakage from their bladders that cannot be stopped due to previous use of Prolia. Prolia loves to dive into our muscles and eat what little calcium there is in the muscles. It causes both hyper and hypocalcemia. Interesting it can do both. It can also cause hypo potassium. How about infections of the muscles around the heart which is very dangerous? When one is on dialysis, one needs to be as healthy as possible and as you can easily see that does not happen with Prolia. Some ladies can take it for a while before it catches up to them and they have to quit. Upon quitting, a vertebra in the back will break. You will be looking forward to a kidney transplant. They cannot transplant a healthy kidney into a person with lots of infections. These are just known facts. I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to call Amgen and discuss these facts with them. They have a toll free number in every country in the world. Their head office is in California in the USA. Be well~
Re: Poodle (# 2446)
I Poodle thank you soo mach for your information. Last year, May 22, my mother received a Prolia injection, while we and my mother did not want it. The doctor has stalked her to take it. My mother had a donor from her son and had to wait a long time for the operation, 11 months. Every time they had an excuse that no operating rooms were available. When my mother could no longer walk from the pain all over her body and was unable to transplant, she suddenly had a date. That was November 2017. The transplant went well but because of all the antibodies, the kidney stopped after a few hours. After the operation, she came to the room and I saw that she was peeding a lot. I'm sure the doctors knew that the kidney was going to repel. But why did they remove the kidney of my healthy brother, who had not been with the GP for more than 10 years. After 2 days she died en we don't know why.
Sorry for my English.
Giralda (# 2447)
I am so sorry that this has happened . My condolences for your loss.
I am sorry too that your mother had to have such an experience.
There needs to be some guidelines about the prescribing of this toxic drug.
Re: Poodle (# 2442)
Thank you, I will contact both FDA and Amgen.. I did contact them re: the hair loss but wanted to see if the leaking was an ongoing problem. It is very weird.. does not happen at night while sleeping.. just randomly during the day and not every day. No warning, just "splush" like someone turned on a water hose. Have an appointment set up with a urologist. Thank you again for your response. You really express care for all of us.
Re: Poodle (# 2451)
Dear Poodle, Thanks for your information. We knew the effects of the Prolia injection. My mother had refused the first time, but her specialist stalked her, then she let it do it. She was afraid that they would not transplant her otherwise. Then the misery began, pain in her hands, tingling and as if there was power on it. Then it went to her shoulders a pain that she could no longer lie down and sleep. She also hardly slept for 6 months from the pain. The specialists and the nurses pretend that there was nothing wrong. At one point she was crooked, she could not walk anymore. She was referred to the neurologist for her hand. She saw that she had carpal tunnel syndrome, due to the constrictions. A hand allowed them to operate without success. We were busy with the transplant why they were in such a hurry to give a prolia injection. And it is prescribed by a trainee of a future nephrologist. Is that allowed? Was this an experiment because they do that with the old people. The transplant was through the blood group. My mother had B and my brother A. Because there were few antibodies, the transplant could continue. Three weeks before the operation, her immune system was shut down and two weeks before the operation she had to take a lot of medication for (rejection). They are criminals! Thanks a lot!!!
Re: Dee (# 2453)
I have taken Actonel for 8 weeks so far with few, if any, side-effects. It is too soon to gauge its efficacy.
Being a weekly tablet is a huge plus as far as I am concerned. There is no way to undo a six-monthly injection like the dreaded Prolia, the unwanted effects of which are ongoing but gradually diminishing.
Re: Dottie (# 2457)
I went to my dermatologist re: the scalp itching and hair loss-- got some stuff to rub into my scalp that has really helped the itching and is alleviating the rash. The jury is still out on the hair loss part as I am still shedding. MY shot was also March of this year...
Dottie (# 2457)
My skin reaction did resolve but it took about a year, although mine were not as bad as yours.
I wish good health to you.
Re: Lizzie (# 2460)
Oh my G_D, Lizzie, I also had only ever had one cold sore in my life. The oral specialist I saw put me on several different anti- viral as well but I reacted with stomach upset etc so I stopped. She said it was herpes. My blood test also showed very elevated white blood count. After hearing your reaction it confirms to me that Prolia definitely was the cause. The oral specialist had also said she'd seen this before. The money I have and still am spending on these side effects is staggering. Thank heavens I have dental insurance, except it is not covering the dental implant and bone graft......also due to Prolia, I might add!
