Prolia Side Effects (Page 40) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
If you are taking Crestor, I was told it's going generic very, very soon. Ask your pharmacy to keep an eye out on it for you. One of my family members takes it and is thrilled at knowing a generic will soon be out. Also, that's something else Prolia does. It can easily cause high cholesterol so if you had it before you may really get it now so keep in close contact with your Doc about it. I would have it checked very month. Personally, I don't believe 5mg of Pred to be a bad dose to be on if it keeps you comfortable. Take it for close the start of the 5th month. Your body will let you know if you are feeling human again and then taper s-l-o-w-l-y. Let your body be in charge. Going off of Pred too fast can cause DVT's and PE's. Be well~Pood
Anne, I have passed month 5 and going into month 6. Insomnia is still there and I still take the sleep meds from a Psychiatrist. It may disappear at the end of 6 or maybe I'll have to wait until the full 11 are up. Ones gets soooooo tired we cannot stand it, but no sleep. It's like Prolia keeps the mind on OverDrive. Sorry! That's how it's been for me and I thank God for that man that gives me a great night's sleep. He does a combination of meds and I have zero hangover effect in the mornings. Bright and alert.
I am on day 58 of the shot from hell. My jaw is extremely painful. I had a bone scan that stated that I had periodontal disease. I have gone to the same dentist for 40 years. I went in and saw him today and they were furious that it was even suggested that I had periodontal disease without looking in my mouth. He took several xrays of different teeth that have been bothering me. He found nothing wrong so it HAS to be my jaw. It's killing me! It's like having major toothaches plus earaches. I started taking 10mg twice a day of steroids to see if that would help. I have another Dr appt with my GP next week. I need to discuss how we are going to treat this until it gets out of my system. My jaw is my worst issue at this point and it is severe.
Canadian - I was into a natural food store. The lady in there suggested saunas to get the toxins out of your system. I was going to do that but I'm a little afraid that the toxins coming out will put me in more pain right now. I'm definitely going to try it but I think I'll wait until my 90 days are up. According to Amgen things should start calming down after 90 days. I am counting down my 32 days as I'm miserable!

what kind of sleep meds and other meds are you getting from your psychiatrist? I'm about ready to pack it all in.
I'm sorry but I am reading everyones post on sleeping. I too have insomnia and I take a sleep aid, tomazapam. I have not had a Prolia shot in 21 months, so if I am reading what everone is saying correctly this "Prolia" is out of my system. The reason "I", "We" are still taking sleeping meds is because we have taken them so long, our bodies have become accustome to them. At this stage I don't think my Prolia shot and my insomnia have anything to do with each other. We can blame a lot on Prolia, but the facts are the facts. Also Alprazolam is the gernic for Xanax and is Very addictive. Please people if you are going to take sleep meds do so with caution.
Just wanted to mention that I am taking .5 mg of Alprazolam about a half hour before I go to bed. I do not take it throughout the day. This does seem to help me get some sleep. As I stated - talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you try anything. They know the side of effects and they can tell you what is best for you. We are not doctors here - we're just trying to help each other through this.
Kathy, I was on Lunesta for years before I even had my first Prolia shot. I was diegnosed with insomnia some 15 years ago. When my insurance wouldn't pay for the Lunesta any more I switched to Tamazapam. Yes it is addicting.
I stopped the Prolia Because I was getting tingling in my arms and legs, I no longer have these. I don't know if it is because the Prolia is out of my system or that I found out I had a herniated disc in my lower back which I just had surgery on this past Wednesday . I could sit here and make a case and say I don't think I had any of this before the Prolia shot but the truth is I'm not sure.
Poodle, thanks for your concern of my stomach. I had the stomach problem before the Prolia injection. I had gas in my stomach, no vomiting and diarrhea. After eating foods, my stomach is swelling and feel stress in my chest. I am not sure what is wrong. I went to see doctor and he referred me to the specialist a month ago. The scan will be done this Wednesday by the specialist in the hospital. Is it the doctor has to do the scanning first in order to find out what is going wrong inside? Now, I have the Prolia in my body, will I get infection during the process? Does the specially knows about the side effects of Prolia? Should I tell the doctor ahead of time, but it is very difficult to reach the specialist until the day in the hospital. Or should I cancel the appointment to bear with the stomach problem until 6 months later. My God, I am really get into trouble. I am supposed to go to Hong Kong in Oct 14. With the Prolia in my body, I really don't know what other side effects that I am going to have.
Kathy - a hour ago I tried the Spa pool for 20 minutes. After that I feel not that miserable and have more energy to do the housework. The water is not too hot this time 35C or 100F. I didn't sweat a lot. May be next time I will try the sauna for 5 minutes also. Will update you.
Kathy~if it had not progressed as far as it did and you got to it at the very beginning had you even known what it was, you probably could have gotten rid of it with just salt water. It's a fungus so I would definitely say Prolia related. I'm sure your Doc gave you an anti-fungal type mouthwash that will knock it flat. It can also be caused from people that wear dentures and don't clean them appropriately so a fungus can grow. This is another to be reported to Amgen and the FDA. Pood
Xanax is a VERY DANGEROUS DRUG in that it is very quickly addicting and to go off of it is extremely dangerous as it can cause the heart to stop so one has to go off of it in a 24-7-365 care facility where they will be constantly monitoring blood pressure. Never, ever take Xanax. I 'think' it takes about two months to go off of Xanax and be totally well. Private insurance will pay for this and that's about all.
Canadian~I just noted in the side effects of Prolia that it can cause an infection in your stomach and in your abdomen too. Going to Hong Kong soon. Ohh Ohh. I would not have the strength to get across North America, let alone across an ocean all the way to the Orient. I can tell you that it is a lovely place to visit if you feel well enough to go sightseeing. You had better get your immunoglobbins checked really FAST!! Hugs~Pood
Poodle, I am going to Hong Kong not for leisure but for taking care of my mother she is 85. She need someone to live and cook and care for her for a period of time. That's why I am so worry that do I have energy to take care of her if I have problem myself. I can't tell her what is my problem now and would like to prosPone my trip as this would Scare her and my family members. In Canada I can go to see doctor to follow up. But in HK you will have to pay everything yourself.
As for my stomach, I feel ok if I take the Zantac. Should I need to take stomach scan as it may have a chance to get infection. Should I ask the doctor on that day or cancel the appointment now. I really don't want the sad story happened again as it happened 09/25/2015 Prolia inj. day. Now is Monday, Wednesday is the scanning date.
Canadian~ Call your doctor ASAP and get something for the Thrush. I waited too long and it is really out of control. My doctor prescribed Nystatin. It's a swish in your mouth and swallow. I waited about a week before I contacted him and it just keeps getting worse. It comes from the Prolia, steroids and antibiotics. I'm told that if I had gotten something sooner it wouldn't have gotten so out of control. My whole mouth and tongue are covered and it is very painful.
Keep me updated on the sauna. I'm still in so much pain that I'm afraid to try it. I'm on Day 63 so I'm hoping that things start improving soon. I discontinued my steroids as they didn't seem to be helping and the Thrush is so bad. It seems like if you find something that helps one thing, it starts a new problem.
Kathy, Thank you very much about the Nystatin. The doctor prescribed the Prolia injection will be seeing me this Friday. Let's see tomorrow if I can call her and ask for this medicine.
I did the Spa pool, after that I felt with energy. But the same night at sleep and next day, my skin more area were more dry and itching, something like a spider bite, or a needle hitting underneath your skin in your fingers, arms, body, legs, head. Would it be the warm water woke up the toxins stuff. So I did not go to the Spa and sauna again.
Should we ask the Amagn Doctor that the sauna or the Spa pool can help to reduce the poison.
As for my stomach, I decided not to go for the Scanning as I found my side effects are getting more worse.
Also, any one experienced blurred vision? Blurred vision in my right eye now. Will see eye doctor next week. I think I will have to postpone my flight after the 26 days. Why should we have to suffer all these? We are all good people. My Goodness!
Canadian - go to your eye Dr. ASAP. Prolia causes cataracts so very probable it can be the cause of your problem. Easy, fast and quick surgery with a nice new lens in there after the Prolia. YES! Tell every MD you go to that you are on Prolia and ask them to look up the side effects of this for themselves. They all need to be educated!
Whatever you do, do not continue to take Prolia. I have joint paint, bad acid
reflux two or three different rashes on legs and arms and they still want me to
continue to take this stuff. I have only been on it for 1 year and 3 shots did all
this to me. I will never take another Prolia shot because it is not worth all this
misery.
Kathy, what exactly do you mean by saying left arm? Was the skin pinched so the shot went in just under the skin or did the i**** stick the whole needle IN the muscle of that arm? Prolia is supposed to have pinched skin. Just take any place on your body and give it a good sized pinch so you can see how Prolia is inj'ed just under the skin. It's called subcutaneously and Prolia is to NEVER be inserted whole needle in the muscle of that arm. A good place to look is on the abdomen area as that's where I had to do many myself. If the skin were not pinched your Doctor did it totally wrong. This is not like a flu shot at all. Did you watch the Dr. do it??? If one were to not do the tummy correctly, it could puncture our insides. Side effects are far worse with an inj. not properly done. It gets into that muscle it stays for months on end and then goes up the neck and into the jaw area. That is horrible pain. Please explain more. There may be a video or diagram on the net. Don't know. Pood
I see a comment that Amgen said you "shouldn't" get more side effects after 90 days? Well, that definitely wasn't true for my poor dad. You can read my previous comments listed on this site but dad would have things pop up that he NEVER had before this shot in his whole life, then in a week or a so, something else would pop up. Might have even gone a month and then something else. Got the shot in August 2014 and kept getting more and more side effects off and on until he died in April 2015. Amgen needs to end their clinical study if it's true that what they are doing (they never told me that when I called them), but they simply need to read all the comments on this site and determine its a bad thing and be done with the clinical study. I have seen VERY few people who have posted how wonderful this drug works to slow down osteoporosis OR that say it made their bone scans show improvement in their bones. That's the purpose this drug is being given to many, for osteoporosis, but it obviously is doing more harm than good as far as the postings I see on here.
And, Kathy, I picked mine up at my pharmacy where it was in the refrigerator.I brought it home and put it right back into mine and had to wait a week for my Doc to be in town. I looked at the instructions with drawings of how to do it but it seemed over complicated to me so I let my Doc do it which was a bad idea considering the fact that I was stupid enough to believe my Doc. Both, my Primary Care and my Rheumatologist said they had never had a problem with Prolia before I came along which seems strange to me. Maybe some people can go through Prolia easily but for the life of me I cannot understand how as it's twin, Xgeva, is a chemo drug and just has more Prolia in it. Xgeva is for bone cancer and I'm going to check the net right now to see if it has much of a success rate. My family knows if I get cancer again, leave me alone. No more meds, chemo and radiation. Once was more than sufficient IMHO. Pood
I just had a Prolia shot a week ago today and I am very miserable,,went to the ER yesterday day afternoon per Doctor. I get chills then very hot, breathing problems and heartbeat flutters. I needed up in the ER yesterday afternoon with a blood pressure of 199/115, very low pulse and breathing was bad. They ran all kinds of test and all came back great. Pharmacist nurse came in a asked questions, left, came and said all the symptoms were related to the Prolia and she was contacting the company about this issue. Does anyone know how long these side effects last? I read six months,,I will not have the injection again that is for sure!!
