Prolia Side Effects (Page 136) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
My insurance won't pay for complete blood very often and I had it done in April. Guess I will just have to wait. Some days are better than others.
Had my 3rd prolia shot. No probs with the first 2. Unfortunately, this one left me with an irritated bladder. This is listed as a prolia side effect. It is horrible.
If I had known about the risk of bladder irritation, I NEVER would have agreed to Prolia. I have Interstitial Cystitis and Prolia has been a big trigger. In 20 years with IC, I never showed 4plus white blood cells in my urine!. My Dr. didn't believe me, but the Nurse Practitioner in my Urologist's office assured me that Prolia can be irritating to the bladder.
Judy~as your Dr. will tell you we seldom get enough magnesium from our food. I recommend it only for stopping the muscle cramps that Prolia causes. When I have my blood tested my Dr. is always surprised at how great my magnesium level is. i still get muscle cramps at night and that prevents them. If you are not experiencing any muscle cramping from our lovely Prolia, you may not need it. Be well~Pood
My mother had cystitis and the Docs never really got it completely cured. She had to have dilation frequently which hurt too. Maybe something new has come on the market that will help as long as it is not a biologic drug. You have my deepest sympathy because I know what you are going thru. Yes, Prolia causes lots and lots of infection by binding to RANKL which just happens to include our immune system. It's the wonder drug that wasn't. Also, in the Clinical Trials, people were only followed for 11 months. Seems to be a large chunk missing there to me. Be well~Pood
Unfortunately there is nothing new for IC.
There is one very expensive drug and Aloe Vera that had been purified.
I have a new pain management Dr. When I recently saw him for a follow up, he told me that he just saw another patient who like me, had been in a re mission from pain; then took Prolia and had a severe exacerbation ! I urged him to investigate.
Actually, knock on wood, but the last few days; I have had much less pain and weakness. My last shot was 71/2 months ago. Do I dare believe I have turned a corner ? Taking it a day at a time.
I took my first Prolia shot on June 5th. It's been about 2 months and my hair is falling out. I will never take another's shot because of many side effects I have from this drug. My question is, does your hair grow back when you stop this medication?
After readings so many comments on how long Prolia stays in your body, I'm completely confused. I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this even after talking to a pharmacist at Amegen, or any other professional. Has anyone gotten credible information concerning this?
Also, has anyone had a tooth extracted while on Prolia, and did you have any problems? I have read that you could get osteonecrosis and I'm really concerned since I have to have this tooth taken out, and I just had my first shot of Prolia 9 weeks ago.
No info on how long either. This is troubling. My pain is being managed by pain meds. I will never take another shot this has destroyed my life.
My last shot was in January, and a Dr. whom I respect and is anti Osteo. meds estimated that the Prolia would celear my body around now, and I think that might be happening; as I am not so weak. However, there is a good chance that the pain signals that were activated
might not deactivate.
I have contacted a attorney to represent me in a law suit against Amgen. This drug is a bad drug. I did not know about all the side effects of this and not told they could incapacitate me. If more people would step forward we could get a class action suit filed.
Linda~believe me that I have contacted lawyers and always get NO. Not now. I don't know how many of us it takes for a class action suit. Diana has also been contacting attorneys for the last two years. She got hurt really bad in her thyroid from Prolia and had to have part of it removed. Now she feels well. How can Amgen say there is no teeth issue when it causes ONJ -- death of the jawbone that holds our teeth in! It would not stop Amgen even if we win because Merck has an extremely large fund to pay people in litigation for the osteoporosis medication they make. They still make it and people still take it. As my Dr, with a brain told me: "Drug companies get sued all the time." My response was: "I do not want to be one of them." Apparently, we, with the teeth problems, are not reporting enough to the FDA or Amgen. Maybe we are rare. I just do not know for sure. If I ever do find an attorney for a legal case, it will be posted here for everyone that has suffered from this biologic poison. I did find a medical paper regarding Prolia and hair loss. It is on that specific forum here at Medschat. Everyone with teeth issues, get on the phone NOW or send an email to the FDA or whomever approves this drug for your particular country. I will continue to hunt down attorneys. So far, all I have found is the broken femur problem with Prolia. It did happen to one of our members in Canada. So far, I only know of one medical Dr. that hates Prolia and says it should never be used but is in Cuba so no help to us. Just basically says what I have already told everyone but in more precise medical terms. Those of you who feel well enough, watch for attorneys suing drug companies and write down their number and give them a call too. Maybe I am not finding everyone as we don't all watch the same channels on TV. Be well~
Has anyone had hair loss? I am experiencing it now.
Goat
Oh ma gosh
Hair Loss ???
Oh yes , terrible
I ordered some heavy vitamins to make it stop. It's terrible
DO NOT TAKE THIS MED !! Eye problems, aches, fevers, pain all over. Should be off the market by FDA !!!!
It is coming out in clumps. Getting many bald spots. What vitamins? Did they help?
I don't know what else to do since I have contacted both the drug company and FDA. I will watch the commercials for an attorney and call. I had my implants two weeks ago and it has been a nightmare since I had so many. Got my stitches out yesterday and it does feel a little better. Get my teeth in December. I did loose some hair but thought it was a thyroid issue but could be both. This is awful and I am so mad about Prolia. My primary care physician suggested Reclast but I told him no way. It has the same side effects.
Sorry you are experiencing problems with Prolia. This drug is poison that affects your immune system, plus many other things. I have lost all of my top teeth and just had implants two weeks ago. I will get the teeth in 4 months. It has been a total nightmare. I called the drug company and FDA. The drug company said no one has reported dental problems. They lied. My doctor still thinks this is a wonderful drug. I also gained 25 pounds almost immediately, had hair loss and two weeks after my injection, my hernia went spastic and went up in my esophagus and almost killed me. I had emergency surgery. Had my injection December 31, 2015 and will never take another one. I am now loosing some weight but could be because I can't eat with all of this dental work. DO NOT TAKE PROLIA.
Linda~Reclast did not hurt me like Prolia did. It just made me nauseous, splitting headache, fatigued. Besides, Prolia is supposed to be the drug of last resort when all the previous have failed. Boniva is the same as Reclast but it lasts a shorter period of time. If I remember correctly, Reclast is once a year and Boniva is twice a year. Try to find Calcitonin. Zero bad side effects and it works well putting down new bone. Probably would have to get it from an orthopedic Dr. You are done with the bad part of implants. They will keep you coming back to make sure all heals well which is only X-rays. They will heal and you get pretty new teeth. I got no help at all for my bones with Reclast. Hang in there. It can only get better. Hugs~Pood
I agree, DO NOT TAKE PROLIA
Really, I should have known better since I usually have bad reactions. Due to Fibro I am hypersensitive. I was scared and vulnerable. I would love to sue, but it would be difficult to make a case with my history. The only thing might be my bladder, that is bad. I am scheduled for a cystoscopy, but not until October. Next week I am leaving for a long vacation and hoping to manage my symptoms.
No more Prolia or any other drug for me.
I am managing it with diet, exercise and supplements.
Sal~if you only had one injection, yes, you should be feeling better now and your immune system is back in force which is a huge plus. The half life of Prolia is 16 days so that means in 16 days 1/2 of it leaves the human body and then in 16 more days, half of the remaining half is gone and then in 16 more days another remaining half is gone until there is only a tiny little molecule that our bodies will excrete in one way or another. All gone! Just because Prolia is gone does not mean in the least that ALL side effects are gone. It can cause major damage to the human body up to and including death. Unfortunately, people were only studied for 11 months. The FDA was quite reluctant to pass it but they finally decided it would be good for certain people with severe osteoporosis for whom ALL the other drugs did not work. It now seems to be a first reach for many Doctors instead of the very last resort for which it was intended. Be well~Pood
