Prolia Side Effects (Page 116)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I'm reposting this after burying it away in the relatively inactive 'skin rash' thread a couple of weeks ago. Once again the rash seems to be subsiding, but it's probably a forlorn hope.
This rash plays cruel tricks!
It is 9 months since my first injection, 3 months since the second (and last). I occasionally feel as though it is gradually dissipating, but each time it bounces back with renewed intensity.
Today I woke up with huge purple blotches on my face, as well as a fiery red chest and itching and stinging all over.
After a busy and active day yesterday, I am a miserable couch potato, muttering obscenities today.
My GP prescribed Novasone lotion four months ago and my skin lapped it up. It pretty much saved my sanity. However, the generous prescription allowed me to use it for too long. Now I have a secondary set of side-effects, seemingly centered on my face. Massive itching, horrible flaring of previously minor rosacea, hot facial flushes (its summer here!). Now I am trying to get by with coal tar and menthol cream which helps to a very small degree. I just don't have the courage to use Prednisone or to use Novasone at the worst times.
The cyclical nature of this thing, due to the half-life issue, is particularly nasty.
Re: Forever Bummed (# 2295)
My friend told me that the hospital listed a cancerous growth as the cause of death.
Luckily I did not let my dad had the shot after reading all the horrendous side effects. I had a argument with the endocrinologist who wanted to prescribe the drug for my dad. And she played scare tactics.

Thanks, i have now refused to have it and am having Pamidronate infusions instead...i looked up all the side effects and came on here before deciding against Prolia , so pleased i did.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2301)
It definitely is. After one year since my last shot, my side effects are subsiding.
I too suffered rashes along with painful, swollen joints, weight gain, and a host of other issues. The only Dr. who listened was the Dermatologist. He ordered a CRP ( a measure of inflammation ), this proved my point about what Prolia was doing to me.My entire body was inflamed. My symptoms are subsiding, although some joints are permanently enlarged. My last shot was 15 months ago. I tell anyone who will listen about the harmful effects.
I have had 3 Prolia injections and am thinking about stopping them. I’ve read that you need to be on this drug for 10 years before stopping or else you have a high chance of fractures. Does anyone have better information?
Re: Sara (# 2305)
I ddn't know about quitting prolia causes fractures!! I'll ask my Dr. I have had 3 injections thus far and due for another in May. I am done! I will never get another one!!
Re: Sara (# 2305)
If you stop, the dead bone cells from Prolia will quit forming bone density. The problem is that the density is made of dead cells so they don’t continue to grow. Then dead bone Cell density was not worth the side effects for me. I am glad I stopped taking it. I have modified my life style and try to live a bone healthy life.
Re: Marilyn (# 2306)
Yes, please ask your doctor, and in the meantime Google "Prolia rebound effect".
It means that we can actually become worse off than before starting on Prolia! It's important to know this before deciding what to do next.

I am taking my chances. 2 shots were too much for me.
At present all my numbers are excellent; and I am doing my best to keep them that way with lifestyle changes.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Hello, I had my first Prolia injection in July 2017 & begin having extreme pain in legs, then begin having pain in hands & lead to trigger fingers in both thumbs; I discussed with my Family MD that ordered Prolia about side effects which was told that these pains were not due to Prolia? I was due for a second injection in January 2018, but I cancelled. I still have pain in my right leg, but better. Hope this helps others before taking injections.
Re: Marilyn (# 2306)
I got one in my back shortly after stopping my one and only injection of Prolia. That is supposedly the 'normal' place for the fracture to happen after stopping this drug.
Re: Edie (# 2311)
What is with these medicos that they refuse to believe the obvious truth about this poison they bully us to take. Our previous GP gave an injection to my husband without any test to see what his Bone Density is. Our current GP was horrified. I refuse to take any more of this stuff
Gloria (# 2302) --
No one will tell you about any side effects Gloria which makes me so suspicious that these guys are getting very generous kickbacks from these Pharmas. This poison keeps us so ill that we keep going back to these guys
Re: Marion (# 2314)
The standard response seems to be:"No one has ever complained about that before". Either they are being paid off, or they simply don't listen. I referred my MD to this discussion group.
I was told by my consultant not to believe all you read on the internet..i still said no thanks after reading your comments
Re: Hazlat (# 2316)
You are absolutely right.

I only took one shot and I thought it was going to kill me. I never took another one. I recently has a fracture of the Sacrum and now I have a fractured rib. My family dr. told me I would have to be in an automobile accident to fracture my sacrum. He didn't believe me so I went to an internist. He told me Prolia was a wonderful medicine. Doctors just won't believe you. I am 76 years old and never had any kind of fracture before and was never told I had osteoporosis.
Ann (# 2317) --
How long ago did you take your shot, and what were you side effects? Thanks for sharing.
Ann (# 2317) --
You sound exactly like what happened to my dad! You don't live in Michigan by any chance do you? Dad died within 8 months of his 1 and only shot of Prolia! Declined within the first 2 days and got worse and worse day by day and never recovered. People need to be scared to death of taking this drug! Dad never had a broken bone in his life either until Prolia and then he had a fracture in his hip. They said it was from his fall 2 days after the shot. I don't believe them. Dad lost his balance within the 2 days. Was whirling, dizzy, pain and fell. But I think the Prolia caused the fracture due to how hard it attacks the bones as soon as it is injected. I'll always believe that. NO doctors would listen. They sloughed off "the great Prolia".
