Prolia Side Effects (Page 109)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
My mother, who is 76-years-old, received the Prolia injection in mid-June, and less than a week later, suffered a stroke. She’s had extreme difficulty recovering her strength, even with physical and occupational therapies. She’s constantly fatigued, has so much weakness and pain that her quality of life has diminished significantly. Are there any options for help?
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
Haven't found any. Only pain management. Sorry for your mom's experience. So many of us have been affected by this drug. The FDA should do something about it. Drs do not tell you the truth and then you end up suffering. I will never take another dose.
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
I am do sorry that this is happening to your mother and to you.
I wish I had a magic wand, but I don't.
Bone broth is especially healing, perhaps that can improve her strength.
If there is a Feldenkrais practitioner near you, that is a modality that might help her ability to move.
I can tell you that my last shot was in January, and it was the end of August, beginning of Sept. when I began to feel better; though not 100%.
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
It might be helpful to change her doet to antiinflammatory as well. Black seed cumin oil is very antiinflammatory as well. Sure did help me
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
If your Mom is capable, gentle chair exercises like chair Yoga might be helpful. This is what I have been doing to regain my strength. For me, the most gentle one was by Jodi Stolove.
Re: Cathy (# 2161)
Another thought( You are on my mind ).
But I hope your Mom is showing improvement.
It might be helpful to have your Mom's Calcium checked. Prolia can cause Hypocalcemia, a source of weakness and muscle spasm.
Re: Faith (# 15)
I think that your doctor is totally ignorant and obviously should not be prescribing this medication without explaining to the patient exactly what the medication is and the possible consequences of taking it. I am into my second term of the drug. I am experiencing all your symptoms. I am waiting for the time that my body is free of it
Re: June (# 2167)
Faith you are never free of this drug as it is a monoclonal body which remains one cell thick forever. The symtoms are much reduced but i am still bother by things i was never allergic to before for me it is the itching and inflammation.
Re: Elaine (# 2168)
Well said, Elaine. I fear I will never be free of the inflammation, especially in my joints.
Re: Elaine (# 2168)
I feel the same Elaine. I will not take the third injection due in November since the hives I experienced this year on holiday in the sun. It has made my body far more sensitive and caused afib. I am so angry that the medical
Profession are using us as guinea pigs.
Re: Sal (# 2166)
Absolutely will have it checked. No sign of that so far, but her potassium is high, sodium is very low.
Re: cathylester24 (# 2171)
That could account for her weakness. Still, it is important to check the calcium. About 2 months after my shot, I developed Hypocalcemia and Hyperparathyroidism. I had to be persistent, as 3 doctors (including the one who prescribed Prolia, blew it off even though this is a known side effect). Even if all labs are normal, Prolia causes weakness.
Re: Sal (# 2163)
I have taken 2 prolia shots.my side effect is some hair loss
Thanks to all who posted their experience. I was told I needed to start injections even though I'm 51. Said it was necessary because osteoporosis is so advanced in me. I will research other options. You have saved me from making a bad decision. So sorry you had to go through such side effects.
Re: Jennifer (# 2170)
Yes Jennifer i am now using bone brotth protein and collagen. Vit k2 with vitamin d3 magnesium glycinate supplements daily. Calcium supplements constipated me badly. So i dont use them
Re: Elaine (# 2175)
There's a bit of a problem. The bone broth looks very good but I'm vegetarian so am wondering what to use in its place? I eat lots of humour and tahini and spinach etc which is great for bones. Also oily fish and one calcichew vitamin D3 chewable per day. Also walking and Pilates so I'll wait for my next bones density scan in March and see if it's improving. It's tricky but Prolia (Denosumab) has not suited me.
I just developed a lump on my clavicle. in addition to headaches, painful bones, fatigue, and extremely low blood pressure. This was after my first time shot of Prolia Aug 25th, 2017. This drug needs to be reevaluated it appears that there are to many risks that outweigh the benefits which I haven't experienced as of yet.
Re: Sal (# 2172)
Prolia absolutely causes WEAKNESS. I was damn near incapacitated for months. Had to literally sit to brush my teeth. I had 2 injections in 2015, 1 in 2016, began to feel bad in July. Then went on FMLA for 2 mos end of October. Back to work inn January because I was feeling better. I was reminded in May 2017 I had missed my 2nd injection for 2016. So, I had the Prolia injection in May 2017 and began to experience the debilitating weakness again by July along with 5 other recognized side effects listed on the Prolia site. I will NOT consent to the 2nd injection for 2017 due in November. It's been 5 months since my last shot and I am just now showing improvement (maybe 3 of 7 days weekly, but hopeful for more). I believe the improvement after 5 months is because I only had 1 shot in 2016 & 1 shot in 2017. I've read where it could be 8 months before signs of improvement, dependant on the individual. I am thankful for the exchanges on the RxChat.com site.
Re: BetseyCA (# 2177)
I agree, but that is not going to happen.
There us too much money to be made,
all we can do is be crusaders, and spread the word. I tell anybody who will listen of my experience.
Re: Sal (# 2179)
Class action lawsuit. .maybe then they will listen?..But then it will be the lawyers that make out right?
