Prolia Issues And Side Effects (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am not going to have my next shot of Prolia due 11 June. I have already had two injections and lately have suffered horrible side effects such as terrible constipation, leg and foot cramps, skin rashes, stomach pain, etc.
I also found out that Prolia works by stopping the body's own bone production, causing old bone to become denser. This results in probable fractures due to old brittle bones, Prolia also causes low calcium levels in the blood, a weird side effect seeing it is supposed?to strengthen boned!
Prolia has literally killed me. After I went on prolia I got a benign brain tumor , a malignant brain tumor , neuroendcrine cancer.
I am sorry for your pain and suffering, I am on the "high risk list" for fractures, so having a product that has rebuilt bone mass in MY body is a blessing. No, I don't like the side effects, but I don't want to be in a wheel chair either..
Good Luck To You and Blessings
Judy
Yes- I call it Prolia fog... My shirt term memory is so short term that it creates frustration daily.
Annie~Australia should have its own version of the FDA in the US. You will have to ask around and find what it is named and then give them a complete list of all side effects you have had with Prolia. Canada has one so I'm sure Australia has one too.
Your medications have to be cleared by some agency in your Country. You need to ask and maybe a pharmacist will know the answer to that question. Pood
I just had my first injection March 1st. Just this last week I have experienced the worst constipation I've ever had! It just dawned on me today to google constipation + side effect + Prolia, UGH!!!! What I wanted to address is your perception of how it works as opposed to what I was told. My Doctors told me it worked by extracting the calcium in our blood and depositing it in our bones and that is why Prolia depletes our calcium count. I was told to take 1200 mg of calcium daily and because I'm a 15 year post gastric bypass patient I'm taking a bariatric calcium supplement. BUT, what have you done about the constipation? I've add psyllium to my diet and that hasn't helped. What about a stool softener? Thanks!
Definitely. It was especially bad when my Calcium was low.
It this drug makes "old bones become denser," that's a good thing, isn't it?
Regarding constipation, it is a problem for me, and was even worse when I was on mega doses of Calcium for Prolia induced Hypocalcemia. I switched to Calcium Phosphate, and find it not as constipating. In addition, I use Acacia Gum from HEATHER's TUMMY Fibers. Also, I take Sea Buckthorn oil supplements.
Just saw my Endocrinologist, who ordered Prolia. He is supportive of discontinuing it. The good news is that my markers indicating bone loss are low; a very good thing.
Re: Gracie (# 39)
Hi Gracie,
I was on Prolia a year-and-a-half and the bone density test showed very slight improvement. That was what finally got the doctor to get me off of the Prolia.
Hugs,
Nikki
Re: Linda (# 32)
I already had some hair loss from current meds I'm on. Taking the Prolia hasn't helped. Praying I can get my body into balance better this year.
Hugs to all!
Re: Sal (# 45)
What do you do to treat osteoporosis naturally? What kind of calcium do u take and how much??
Re: Sharon (# 53)
Calcium Citrate is what my GI system can tolerate. There have been reports recently that show the bone supplements ineffective,. so now I don't know what to do. Collegen. An anti inflammatory diet, exercises,Yoga, an at home program called TTAPP
Re: Sal (# 54)
Which bone supplements and what research shows them to be ineffective? People I know take Strontium Citrate and find it builds bone over time. Was this supplement included in that paper?
I have decided not to take any of the drugs, including and especially Prolia for my Osteoporosis. I will not take a chance on the terrible side effects, not just as reported here but what I've personally witnessed from friends and co-workers. I think the cover-up by the FDA is a disgrace, my own doctor wasn't aware of how serious things were til her patients started telling her.
Re: Ida (# 20)
Yes- after 5 weeks my hair is noticeably thinning and the loss is increasing daily. It is really awful.
Re: Anni (# 2)
I am 55 & high risk but I am terrified by what I have read about side effects. From what I have read it causes the same problems it is supposed to stop... I have been told I could have a fall, break my hip & end up in a wheelchair but this doesn't seem like a great alternative.
Re: Mason (# 62)
Mason, a natural event for a man. Not so natural for a woman. Most women will thin, but not until old age. Young women are thinning due to this drug. Yup, a vanity issue, but also an UNNATURAL event for 40 and 50 year old women. Again. Not natural unless you are male! Possibly, you did not know this?
Re: Sharon (# 48)
Muscle spasms with Prolia are very common. The best defense for this is to take a Magnesium supplement if you can tolerate it. One tablet at bedtime. Certain brands of Magnesium can cause diarrhea. Muscles are the only place the human body can have deposits of calcium and Prolia LOVES calcium so straight to our muscles it goes. As it eats the calcium it causes us a lot of pain. Hope this helps you. Do not take liquid filled capsules of it. It has to be in a 'hard tablet form' variety. Be well~Pood
