Prolia Side Effects Duration (Page 8)

Would like to know if anyone had side effects from Prolia but they went away - and how long did it take for that to happen?
Re: Giralda (# 176)
75 years old. I wouldn't go near Prolia. Fosomax is the same take that pill if you want for 30 days and see if you have a drug reaction.
Re: Shirley (# 170)
Sorry Shirley I didn't mean to upset you, I just don't want to take prednisone for myself if I can help it. I have been using cbd hemp oil for a couple of weeks with some relief. Seen my doctor recently and he agreed I should discontinue the prolia and we will decide later what to do next. Hope things get better for you soon.
may a dialysis patient of 75 year use prolia injection if that person does not urinate.
Re: Poodle (# 158)
Thank you Poodle for sharing your valuable (and painful!) experience with us all. Knowing that I'm not alone, especially in awareness—not in suffering the same, (which I wish none of you had experienced!), has helped me through this... On the 30th of January 2018, it will be 10 months since i received the one and only Prolia injection. Basically, I will remember 2017 as the lost year in my life, because of this pharmaceutical fraud called Prolia. I must say that the use of Prednisone for approximately six weeks, beginning a month after I was poisoned with Prolia, was essential (knowing the many negative side effects it does have), because i had a disabling autoimmune reaction called erythema nodossum, which caused so much pain I couldnt walk and had to use a wheelchair to go to Emergency. The relief happened less than 48 hours after starting on Prednisone and i was able to reduce the dosage after 7 days... The erythemas (on my legs, feet and arms) disappeared and kind of ‘wanted to come back’ by the end of the first cycle ...but very mild.
Today I’m still dealing with hyperthyroidism and on Tapazole daily for it; I have a dysthyroid ophthalmopathy with aesthetic and visual implications, dental problems (lost one tooth for no apparent reason on the 23rd of december); my skin has a rough and funny texture. Im still loosing my hair by the hundreds a day, my nails are soft like onion skins, I have no energy and Im always tired and unmotivated. As if all these were not enough, I was recently diagnosed with a “mild aortic stenosis” which Im positive is related to this poison. I’ve exercised intensely all of my life (spinning and weights), don’t smoke, eat very healthy, never had cholesterol problems (always had good LDL/HDL balance), never had high blood pressure and have not eaten red meat since 2010... For all of this, I was in shock to hear my ECG showed cardio arteries are mildly blocked!!! My Drs. of course don’t believe any of this is related to ‘Prolia (or is it that they dont want to recognize it?)... This is my 10th-month update. My dream is to be able to come back next month with a happier update. In the meantime I wish you all a healthier 2018... Be well.
Re: Shirley (# 160)
I doubt that you have jumped the gun at all Shirley. I'm just about to jump off the nearest bridge with what I am sure are side effects of prolia with aching jaw, pains in arms and thighs which feel like a bone pain and dry mouth even though I drink lots of water. Not one of my medicos will admit that it can be the Prolia. All they say is 'do you want a broken hip'? I'm pretty sure that they have our best interests at heart but if they could read patient complaints and see that these symptoms need to be suspect then they may change their approach.
Re: Shirley (# 160)
Thanks so much for replying, Shirley!
Hugs and blessings!
Re: Shirley (# 171)
I have taken 5mg or 10 mg of prednisone everyday for about 10 years because of my RA. I also take prednisone step doses when I have Bronchitis as I COPD. The prednisone keeps the inflammation around my joints at bay. When I have an RA flare the dose goes up to eliminate both the inflammation and the pain it causes. I also had one shot of Prolia in November of 2016 and had massive muscle and bone pain In my thighs and the prednisone was of no help for that. After about 6 months I started the journey to the new normal.
I was given my 3rd Prolia injection in December. I take it to prevent bone loss after being prescribed Arimidex due to ER+. Two days later I visited GP with bladder pain during urination. Was given Sulfa for a possible infection. My U/A and culture were both negative. Then I started having debilitation joint and muscle pain. If I straightened out my legs while lying down, my knees would SCREAM. My neck arms and shoulders became SO painful, stiff and sore. My arms feel like lead! Saw my GP for just a monthly checkup yesterday and told her my symptoms. She did not think the Prolia was the cause of the pain. She ordered Rheumatic/Autoimmune Disease labs. She gave me Prednisone. She said if Prednisone helps she would not be quick to blame the Prolia and her diagnosis would be Polymyalgia Rheumatica. After starting the Prednisone yesterday 20mg I did not hobble when I got out of bed this AM and my shoulders and arms are somewhat better (pain is not as intense). I am also treated for Chronic Back Pain (Norco 5mgs once a day), Osteoarthritis (Ultram 50mgs twice a day). Neither of which really helps my current pain from Fibromyalgia - I no longer take Lyrica for that because when I added the Ultram, I stayed too sleepy. But the fibo pain has been much better since I quit work. I am unable to take NSAIDs, due to elevated kidney enzymes while taking Mobic. I was wondering if anyone else has been given Prednisone for the pain OR been on Prednisone for another reason and noticed an improvement in the joint and muscle pain? I appreciate any comments Thank you.
Re: Vickie (# 168)
Because I have NO life! And if this is indeed Polymyalgia Rheumatica, that is the ONLY treatment I am fully aware of the horrible side effects of prednisone, but it has also saved my life on SEVERAL occasions, due to exacerbation of asthma. I was asking if anyone else has experienced the same situation.
Re: Poodle (# 157)
I took my one and only shot in May 2016. I have a back fracture now. Which I have had since Dec.2017. The shot almost destroyed my body.
Re: Shirley (# 163)
I have not been put on prednisone, I will refuse it if offered, why take something that is bad for your bones when you are trying to do the opposite
Poodle (# 162) - I found it very strange that to be at risk for spine fractures after stopping prolia when I wasn't at risk of spine fractures before taking prolia
Re: teddt (# 165)
Yes, thank you. My comments have been so long winded, that I didn't want to cause overload! But if it will help anyone else I'll add this too. I have had chronic persistent sinus infections for approx. 18 months!! up through 2012 I had recieved 4 separate rounds of allergy injections (been sick with asthma and sinuses since I was 2yrs old). I quit work in 2012 and had 3 good years, of NO sinuses infections or exacerbation of asthma. Thank goodness I did not require chemo radiation, but i was started on the arimidex and Zometa (changed to Prolia) -they both do the same thing. I have been on so many antibiotics, throughout my lifetime, the only thing that will even touch the sinus infections anymore is Levaquin (which in itself is a pretty mean drug) I was admitted to the hospital in January 2017 for sinusitis/bronchitis/exacerbation of asthma after taking round and round of antibiotic. Same thing happened in Nov. of 2017. Except, chest xray was negative, my dr. ordered a chest CT (Making sure the breast CA and thyroid CA hadnt metastasized) no tumor or mass, but PNEUMONIA! I worked as nurse at a dr's office for 17 years, and 10 as a school nurse. I do have some knowledege of a lot of this stuff (I heard it put, A little knowledge can do a lot of damage)but in no way do I know it all. I do know what my body feels like and THIS shouldn't be it.
Re: Shirley (# 163)
Have your Osteo Doc. check for Osteomyelitis. I know Prolio lowers your immune system, and this could set in on your joints.
Re: CAB (# 138)
I know the one in Asheville, NC is very good and not that far. Be well~
Re: Vickie (# 161)
Did you also have ER+ breast CA also, I didn't go back and read all the comments, and I've read SO much to find answers I cant remember? I do worry about the CA coming back in the bones, as there is a fairly high recurrence to the bone, but I don't know how to cope with THIS pain, I am no stranger to pain...Fibromyalgia, Chronic Back Pain, Osteoarthritis among other diagnoses! Has anyone else been given prednisone(steroids) after telling your doctor about the pain you are having??? I don't know exactly what makes the body react to Prolia in this way, ( except maybe how the medication is metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme of the liver) but if it is an inflammatory process the Prednisone should help. Do you know if the reaction IS inflammatory?
Re: Vickie (# 159)
That is correct. Fractures happen when quitting Prolia. Pood
Re: Shirley (# 160)
I think you should go with your first gut reaction that it may be the prolia. several years ago they started me on fosamax and I hurt from head to toe and was out of breath. doctor didn't believe me so I went off a month and went back on. same thing happened . with the prolia injection a little harder to do this. I am on prolia two years and after my last shot in december I hurt all over. not sure if am going to continue
Re: Nikki (# 149)
Hey Nikki, I already had an appointment scheduled with my GP, just for a follow up. Thought I'd get her opinion about the Prolia. Just like many others, she doesn't think my symptoms are caused from the side effects of Prolia. She order lab work and gave an RX of Prednisone. She told me that if the Predisone helps then it would highly suggest Poymyalgia Rheumatica. That also had crossed my mind in trying to figure out what was going wrong with my body, but it is so much easier to blame a medication that you can stop to get the pain to end. So, I MAY have jumped the gun in my earlier, angrier post. I am in limbo now with more specialists to see. I am SO tired and frustrated.
Re: Poodle (# 157)
I was not at risk for fractures in the spine when I started prolia, I had a risk in left hip -1.5, am I at risk for fractures in the spine if I stop
