Prepopik Laxative (Page 9)

Has anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?
Well, since my doctor had never heard of it there wasn't much he could say. It had only been approved in the USA a couple months before I took it. It is not unusual to have Dulcolax as part of the prep though.
My doctor specifically told me not to take additional laxatives with the prepopik
My doctor did not tell me to take. In fact my doctor had not even heard of this before I brought the info in. He wrote a prescription for it and said "try it". I had read on line that sometimes for people with slow systems it was ok. Dulcolax is used with a number of the preps. Like I said thou my procedure was not till late afternoon. This prep has been used in Canada for years and is really cheap. It has a different name. I am the one that originally started this thread
My husband has taken 4 laxitives before four the next day and 1 pack of the prepopik and hasn't moved his bowels yet and no he doesn't and has never had any problems with his bowels if anything he moves his bowels right after he eats. I'll wait until 3 am to see if he goes. His appointment is at 9:30. He stomach is gurgerling but that's it. He's sleeping. I dont get it. I had one done in 2011 and was going after taking the pill laxitives, but I have trouble going anyway and stomach problems and was in the bathroom for hours. Is something wrong? We're stopping at the Dr's office prior to the procedure, if nothing happens by then we'll let them know.
I have a slow system as it is as many iof us do. I was concerned that it was not working fast enough so I took 2 Dulcolax that night BUT my procedure was in the late afternoon so I knew I would be OK with the extra laxative. Not a good idea if you are having it early. It works on everyone a little differently. If one is concerned eating light for a day or two before might help.
I should include that I am a 105lb 28 y/o female
I wanted to post and make sure people didn't panic if the Prepopik didn't kick in within 1-2 hours like many people here experienced. When I use Prepopik (4 times now) it takes TEN HOURS to kick in. Almost down to the minute. It still works, it cleans me out, but I do not want others to be alarmed if they don't have a bowel movement within the first dosage time.
How long for it to kick in. It's been 2 hours for me so far
Today I had my first colonoscopy. The Prepopik tasted good enough to be a drink someone would buy as a refreshment, no kidding. After the first 5 ounce dose and subsequent liquids I had no bowel movement at all for 4 1/2 hours. There was no cramping, nausea or discomfort. The first movement was very small. I took my 2nd, 5 ounce dose 5 hours after the first dose and had 5 or 6 seemingly small bowel movements, all of total liquid consistency during the course of the night. I felt the urge, went, got up and went back to bed. I didn't have to stay on the toilet for any length of time. My bottom was not irritated at all. I thought that it was impossible for me to be cleaned out with this amount of activity! But I was. I will say that two days before the procedure i drank a lot of water, maybe a 1/2 gallon, throughout the day. The day before the procedure I drank water, Pedialyte, beef broth, jello (not red or purple), black coffee with sugar and a whole box of banana popsicles. If it is clear enough to see light through it may be okay to drink/eat. Somehow, i wasn't very hungry, just slightly put out that I couldn't eat what I wanted. After my 2nd dose i started getting a headache. I immediately took extra strength Tylenol and it went away. I hope this post helps someone. I am going to tell everyone about Prepopik. When I told the nurses about my experience while they were prepping me one of them told me about her horrible experience with another product. Good luck to you!
I had my procedure yesterday. First I would like to say do not be alarmed if the product does not appears to be working. It does and it will. Second start early and take the next does 6 hours later. It took a couple of hours for the first dose to kick in. My appointment was 7:30 am. I took the final dose at 2:00am. Prepopik works so well you need more time or you might find yourself stopping at McDonald's before the procedure if you know what I mean. Finally regardless of how well it works I think it is OVER PRICED. I live in the Chicago area. The price was $123 at Walmart Pharmacy. With BCBS and a 20% coupon from their site online I still paid $36 out-of-pocket.
My Dr. prescribed Prepopik and I just picked it up at my Rite-Aid pharmacy and with the discount was charged $107 for the kit and I am completely outraged. This is a clear case of whats wrong with the drug industry in this country. I know a little about chemistry and there is no reasonable excuse for this price for something that can be produced for less than $5.
I completed my prepopik last week and it was not as bad as my first two. The taste wasn't bad either!!!!!!i paid $40
For it too. The easiest part was the dosing sheets. I marked off after I drank my 8 ounces so I knew how much I had left to drink. By far the easiest prep I have ever taken. Did get a little nauteas after second dose but think it's because I dudht have aby food in my stomach. Overall dr said I dont have to do another one for 10 more years.
It doesn't work that fast on everyone. It is the best ever though but I did want to let people know it is rare to work that fast so they don't get worried.
Prepopik is the bomb! Easiest prep ever. Starts working within the hour and in no time u are clean. Pleasant taste and small amount. No cramping or nausea for me, unlike magnesium citrate. Had many colonoscopies and by far this has been easiest!
Hi , My husband has acid reflux and he said that the prep did not bother him at all.
did you experience any heartburn or reflux? i can't even take tylenol on an empty stomach so i'm concerned about taking a prep with 12 grams of citric acid.
Thank you all so very much for your comments and suggestions. I will be using Prepopik next month. My husband chose the "other" option this past week and had to drink 144 oz. While the taste wasn't terrible, he said he wished he had chosen the Prepopik and confirmed that I would never have been able to drink so much, no matter how much time is allowed to finish it. Our health insurance company paid for the most of the cost of both options but my husband's option cost $10 out of pocket and the Prepopik was $40. My doctor gave me a coupon to use so the final cost was $32 at my local pharmacy. Sounds like it's going to be worth every penny of the extra cost. Thanks again, all who commented, for helping to ease my nerves! P.S. This is my second colonoscopy, but ten years ago you purchased the prep stuff over the counter and mixed it with whatever you wanted. I used lemonade which masked the taste completely and it was super easy to get down. Hoping Prepopik will be the same!
I just used it today for my first colonoscopy at 9:30 am. I am a 23 year old female and was incredibly nervous about the prep because laxatives usually make me very sick. However, this was a CAKE WALK! I got slightly nauseous with the second dose but I'm pretty sure that has more to do with not eating than it does with the prep. Kinda felt like being a bit car sick but it went away quickly. I never had cramps or a headache at all. The prep drink itself is only 5oz and although it's very strange that the mix makes the water almost hot, the taste was not bad. As far as cost... I have heard that it's anywhere from $85 to $155 but my doctor just handed me a sample one from his office and it was free! However, after hearing the horror stories about drinking a gallon of other preps, I would gladly pay for this one if I needed to.
