He got rafassal caplets for 5 months and later on prednison(60mg aday during alittle over 3 weeks.)All of a sudden he developed being lame;can't move his legs and body anymore.can't stand up ! Is this a known interreaction from those medications? He uses many other medications as well but already for a much longer time with no side effects. In a short time it is as if the mucles faded away after he got oedemia, which also disappeared. He has a heart problem(pace maker and defribilator since 2004). ## Prednisone is a bad drug, and probably caused the paralysis. It sure gave me an ugly bouquet of problems. My psoriasis flared in new places- it was only my legs, now my neck and shoulders. I caught a cold by day 3 on a 20mg dose. My fa...

my mama gets prednisone from 2 diff sorces, 1 taste nasty, she says, and the othe, west ward 473, has no taste. anyone know if one may not be wat it is supose to be? or any info on thw westward 473 taste? ## Hi Robert, Based on the description provided, I can confirm that West-Ward 473 is in fact identified as Prednisone 10 mg. The differences in taste are likely due to the variation of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers/dyes/etc) in each tablet. What's the imprint on the other (nasty tasting) pill your mom is taking? I may be able to look it up for additional verification. Hope this helps!

I have a terrible rash on my neck, chest and spreading to my breasts. I am on 20 mg. of prednisone (reduced from 30 mg) and have been for almost a month. Could this rash be from the prednisone?? ## It might be, but I have to say that it's rather difficult to say, because there could be several reasons. Aside from the fact that there's always a chance of suddenly developing an allergy or sensitivity to something, regardless of how long you've been taking it or been exposed to it… These steroid medications also have an effect on your immune system, so it could have caused an allergy or sensitivity to something else to pop up. Learn more Prednisone details here. Is it an itchy rash, or a rash that's just kind of there? You should talk to your doctor about ...

It seems like everyone around me has been getting crazy allergies this spring with everything starting to bloom again. If I may make a suggestion, I've also heard that garlic and raw honey makes for potent antihistamine effects. prolonged usage side effects, geriatric usage ## The medication being asked about in this post might have been Prednisone, since medication names and spellings are quite often misunderstood. It is a steroid class medication and prolonged use does risk some serious side effects, such as weight changes and fluid retention, which can lead to congestive heart failure. Learn more Prednisone details here. Geriatric usage needs to be carefully monitored and it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risk and for only as long of a time period as absolutely necessary. Are there any questions or comments?

I have so much pain in my feet, , wrist and knee & legs. Im on Trama-dol hcl 50 mg and Morton. Also prednisone 10 mgs What other meds help with this problem ? ## Hi Binny, What type of pain are you dealing with exactly? Just general pain, or pain from arthritis? If you're able to give me more detail, I can definitely do some research and look at the other options you have. Until then, I would like to recommend acupuncture and essential oils. There are studies that can prove the accuracy of both those methods for pain. I've personally had acupuncture performed on a painful nerve in my foot and it helped tremendously. Essential oils are also beneficial in conjunction with massage therapy. I'll post a link to a page that provides information about certain oils used for pain...

Is prednisone used to relieve topical body rashes and itching.on elderly people? if so what side effects?. ## Hi Nancy, I was going to go ahead and say yes, until I noticed that itching, rash, & hives, were all listed as severe side effects of Prednisone. In my opinion it doesn't make sense to take something that could potentially make your situation a lot more pronounced than it already is. A full list of side effects can be found here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a601102.html#side-effects One thing I would consider using is Lavender Essential Oil mixed in with a natural fragrance free lotion or even coconut oil. This should significantly help alleviate the itching and overtime should also help get rid of the rash. If you know what the rash and itching were caused by,...

Is prednisone used to relieve topical body rashes and itching.on elderly people? if so what side effects?. ## Hi Nancy, Based on my research, Prednisone is in a class of drugs called "Corticosteroids." Prednisone prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Prednisone can be used to treat many different conditions such as allergic disorders, skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or breathing disorders. I have heard of people using this medication for rashes and itching, but I'm not sure if age is a factor. Some of the side effects include but are not limited to: insomnia, sever joint pain, leg pain/cramping, and more. Learn More: Prednisone Details I hope this helps!

5mg once a day for 5 days so far isn't helping. Is taking four 5mg once a day the same dosage as taking one 20mg of prednisone? Or two 5mg the same as one 10mg pill. ## Prednisone is a steroid class medication and it is not safe to adjust the dosage on your own. If you take too high of a dosage, then suddenly lower it, or stop taking it, it can cause serious health problems. Additionally, this medication carries the risk of causing potentially dangerous side effects. Learn more Prednisone details here. If the prescribed dosage hasn't worked, then you need to see your doctor to discuss what your next options are for treatment. Are there any other questions or comments?

My wife has had a sinus infection for about two weeks. Today she went to the doctor and they prescribed this medication and also prednisone. She took the medication, the amox..., with food, however, she has had an extremely bad headache since taking this medication. Is this a normal side effect as well or should I consult a physician on her behalf ## It is very hard to say, either one of the medications could be causing the headache, or it could be a symptom of the sinus infection itself. Has she consulted her doctor? My mum takes both Calcort and Euthyrox and was recently diagnosed with Celiac's disease. She was told to avoid all things, including prescription medications, with gluten. I'm having a hard time finding out if Calcort (a steroid, like prednisone) and Euthyrox (for her thyroids) have gluten fillers in them. Please advise. Thanks. ## Would you happen to know if there's an imprint of any kind on either of those pills? The inactive ingredients are going to vary from brand to brand, based on the manufacturer's descretion. So any additional details on the physical aspects of the pill would be very helpful, if you still have them on hand?

My GP has diagnosed me as in stage 4 of emphysema and has now prescribed me to take a 10 day course of trolic 5mg tabs daily besides the other medication I'm taking. This is my first day on them and although I felt I was breathing better during the day now at evening/night I cannot cough and clear the phylem from my lungs and cannot get to sleep. Is this normal at the onset of taking this course? Should I continue taking them or re-visit my GP? ## Trolic contains the active ingredient Prednisone, which is a steroid class medication, a glucocorticosteroid to be precise. The insomnia can be a normal side effect, but the inability to cough and clear your throat is unusual. Learn more Prednisone details here. How long did it last?
