After 10 plus years on 4 to 5mg prednisone my Dr. wants to taper me off. I heard that you will no longer produce it naturally in the body after that many years, is that true? With two Auto Immune Diseases I really don't want to remove this medication. His alternative is to go on a relatively new immuno suppressive Medication called Aubagio, anyone taking this/feedback? ## Tapering you off of it is to prevent the issues that would occur with sudden withdrawal, such as your natural steroid hormones being screwed up and not produced by your body, anymore. Aubagio is classified by the FDA as an immunomodulatory drug, so it works differently than the steroids and there is less risk of someone developing a severe infection, while on it. Its typical side effects may possibly include body a...

Is it necessary that all PMR-symptoms are gone, before you reduce the dosis of Prednisone? ## If I have had a sever reaction to prednisolone / prednisone, what can I take if I have polymyalgia Rhumatica? I have many other drug allergies including morphine and codeine derivatives and other narcotics.

I'm a 74 yr old male and have gained 20lbs on prednisone for PMR and my face and stomach are bloated. Dr started me on 25mg, then after 6 wks and blood wk, reduced me down to 12 1/2 mg and then symptoms returned. I went to 12mg and now 10mg. and I'm ok so far. What is the outlook for people like me on prednisone with poly myalgia rheumatica? ## Hello, Rip! How are you? The side effects you've described are common with long-term use of steroids and won't likely go away, as long as you are taking it. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, fluid retention, acne, nervousness and insomnia. Unfortunately, there aren't many other treatment options for this condition and the Prednisone is usually taken for a year or more. Have you had any im...

I put wrong numbers in. ## Does it also have DAN DAN on it? If so, then it is a 10mg Prednisone tablet, a steroid used to treat conditions such as allergies and inflammation. ## If you are on prednisone 10 mg for allergies and you're taking them for 12 days one a day will you have side effects. How are you? Medications do tend to lose effectiveness over time, this one doesn't become dangerous, but it may not work as well as it did, when it was new. Have you asked you doctor about that? They may feel that it's okay for you to try it. The FDA classifies this medication as being a steroid and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, acne, weight gain, fluid retention, elevated blood pressure and elevated heart rate.

I recently half a CT angiogram to map out my arteries for a Prostate Artery Embolisation. Because I am allergic to contrast dye the radioligist prescribed 5o mg of prednisone the night before and 1 hour before the procedure. It was in tablet form. The side effects of the prednisone were awful ....severe stomach pain, nausea, constant gnawing in stomach, headaches and weight gain. Its over four weeks now and symptoms have lessened but still there. All from only two 50 mg doses. I discussed this with the radioligist and told him that I didn't want to proceed with the Prostate Embolisation because of the prednisone. He said they would use intravenous prednisone and this would prevent any stomach issues. Can anyone here back this up? Has anyone here had intravenous prednisone and had st...

Hi. My story starts off with being on doxycycline for about 2 months and mitazapene for about 5 days. Not sure which cause the reaction but anyway i got a pimple like rash but only on my chest and some facial swelling, i freaked out and went to the doctors and was put on 75mg of predisolone. I stayed on this for 2 weeks and it started to clear everything, then one night my face swelled bigger then it ever had and i started getting joint aches and pains. However the rest of my body seemed to shrink. After being to many different doctors who all told me to stay on the pred i went to one who told me this was way to much to be on. At this point I had been on 18 days. She then started to taper me off and we did a bunch of diagnostics for lupas, auto immune the works. Everything can back fine...

I have ulcerative colitis and ulcerative proctitis. I have not been able to establish remission for as long as I have been diagnosed which was 5 years ago. I am 66 years old. My dr gave me 20 mg of prednisone to settle it down. I have been taking it for 4 days now and in the evening I have a terrible gas and urgency to go to the bathroom for about 3 hours. Could it be a side effect of the prednisone? ## Hello, CB! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. Yes, Prednisone is a steroid, so it can cause such side effects, the FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, acne and weight gain. Are you on any other medications?

How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the problems you've had. The FDA classifies Prednisone as a steroid and yes, it has been known to cause such issues in some people that take it. My sister was taking Prednisone and Nucynta for her Rheumatoid Arthritis and it weakened her immune system. She had only been taking these 2 medications about a year. One day she got strep and it killed her. Within a couple of days of feeling sick, she was rushed the ER and passed away. She died of septic shock. I blame the drugs. ## Hello, Diana! How are you? I am so very sorry for your loss. Steroid class medications, such as Prednisone, can cause suppression of the immune system, along with other side effects, such as weight gain, acne, dizziness and fluid retention. So, there is a chance that it might have contributed, but I'm not a doctor, so I can't say with certainty. How are you taking it? Are you okay? ## Hi, yes thank you. I'm ok. This was two, almost three years a...

Need help with tablet count for prescription. I'm a student and I have to calculate the number of tablets needed to fill the rx. Prescription reads Prednisone 10MG # QS. The SIG is: 30mg bid x 2d 25mg bid x 2d 20mg bid x 2d 15mg bid x 2d 10mg qd x 2d 5mg qd x 2d (then stop) I also need help with writing the patient label based on this rx ... Thank you. Alan ## Hi Alan, I'm not quite familiar with your method for calculating the number of pills. Is there a type of formula you are following to get where you are? It's definitely something that one would consider to be as simple as putting the right number of pills into the right container, but I can see that it is much more than just that. Below are a couple of sites that I thought could be of help to you when calculating or co...

I forgot how I took these pills the first time and I'm trying to contact my doctor but I've not heard from him yet and I'm leaving on vacation very soon, I remember weaning myself off them after taking a larger dose to start with. ## Hello, Joe! How are you? It actually depends what you're taking them to treat. What condition were they prescribed for? If they are started from a larger dose, tapering usually isn't required, unless you're taking them for 21 or more days. This is a steroid class medication that may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, fluid retention, acne, insomnia and elevated heart rate.

I recently had a baby on the 21 Sept. I had a drug eruption afterwards. I had an epidural they gave my hydrocodone, ibuprofen for my pain because I got stitches after delivery...then on the 1st Oct I had a drug eruption that was lots of tiny bump-like pus pimples that broke out on my tummy, onto my breasts, then my wrists. So then they referred my to a dermatologist that day and I started one dose of aantibiotics but because I was itching and still fighting the breakout the next day they started me on prednisone. First 4days....40mg, 30mg for the next 3...then when I started 20mg; dermatologist called that day and told me to add 3 more pills to up my dose bcuz i was still itchy. Oct 10 was my first dose of 50mg, I am on the 5th day...on the 15th I go down to 40mg for 5days...etc. But la...

Hi My daughter is 15 and was prescribed prednisone 20mg for inflammation brought on by an upper respiratory infection. She took the first dose about 1/2 hour after a meal and within 1/2 hour, she was experiencing severe abdominal cramping and nausea. She was able to vomit and it was clear with a few solids but mostly clear. I spoke with the doctor after the pharmacist recommended that it might be too much for her. The doctor said to continue and he called in anti-nausea. I really want to stop because she was so violently ill. Since it was only the first dose, will she be okay to stop. I know that it is my decision to do so but I just would like a second opinion. ## I'm am so glad you posted the question. I thought that maybe I was overreacting. I took one 50mg pill of prednisone bef...

It may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, acne and fluid retention. Did the doctor take a swab of it?
