Where at in central Florida can you find the 80 mg OC's? I have been taking the OC's since 1997 due to serious injuries and the OP's make me sick and do not work to ease my pain like the OC's do. I really need to find a pharmacy that have the 80mg OC brand not the OP's. I cannot get out of bed in the mornings anymore now that I have to take the OP's. Can someone please help me find the Oxycontin 80mg OC's. I would like to get my life back and function like I used to. I have children that I can no longer do things with due to the change in the medication. The 80mg OC's are the only thing that has given me part of my life back. Im not the only person that has had a major set back in life due to the switch of the medication. We shouldn't have to suffer because of other people's negligence.
Unfortunately they no longer make the original Oxycontin, with the OC marking. The manufacturer is Purdue Pharma and they have completely replaced the product with the new one that had the OP marking. It had been specially formulated to help prevent abuse.
Have you tried asking your doctor about trying a different medication?
There is a time released Morphine available, as a generic and name brand. The brand is MS Contin.
Side effects would be similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.
You can read more about it here:

Another option that you may want to ask your doctor about trying is the Duragesic patch, it contains the active ingredient Fentanyl, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine and is available as both a name brand and generic.
It is also a narcotic and one time release patch lasts for 72 hours.

Does anyone else have advice to add?
Yes, the Fentanyl patch worked well for my husband. There is another option. Find a "compounding" pharmacy - if you have insurance make sure your doctor sends a pre-authorization for "compound" medication. Not many people know about compounding medicines so you have to be persistent and do your research.
Ur n sac rt? I won't be like the others n keep everything a secret jus let me know if u still need help but I know were u can fill ur 40 oc at in sac.
yes, I want to know if there is a brand available, that you can ask for at a pharmacy, to get the old oc brand oxycontin. Thanks!
if call around, mainly walgreens, ask if they generic oxycontin available, iv been getting them every month in NY. people getting ops just dont know to ask for generic only. if your script is for 90, and they say they cany fill it its because they done have that many. so you have to ask if they have any generic at all. i got 70 instead of 90 last month, but its better than 90 ops. aparently rite aid also has generic. there peoduced by ethex or apotech. and it is the old formula, and cheaper than name brand op which is nice too. you just have to put your time in calling around for generics. hope that helps
Which one do u go 2 in ny?
I just talked to someone and they said they have alot of the OCs not OPs, the real ones 40 mg oxycontin that say oc. They also have the 80mg OCs.
where can you find the 80mg oc?
I have also been on OC for 10 years for rheumatoid arthritis and it has been the only med that does not make me goofy. but since this was switched, I have begun to experience physical problems, AND massive anxiety. My lymph nodes have been infected and I have not been feeling at all well for 5 months or so. I never realized about this new formula and now I am extremely concerned. Thank you for this forum!! Is it true that you can indeed get the old formula of OC by asking for generic? I take 40mg + 10mg 3x/day. I have tried all the others and they make me weird. I am so very sad. I truly hope that the generic might be the answer. I hope.
What pharmacy in in Washington state carries OC not OP's ?
I'm so sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis. To my knowledge, NO pharmacy carries OC anymore as Purdue has completely stopped making them. And, no other pharmaceutical company has made the generic formula of OC so we are totally out of luck, sad to say. But considering the fact that OP's tend to upset the GI, would perhaps a patch be better for your pain? or MS Contin (which is oral). I have been on both in the past and currently take MS Contin with similar pain control outcome results as I had with OC. I did speak with a couple of local pharmacies and the difference of the pharmacist's knowledge of the formulary change from OC to OP between the pharmacies was stunning. One pharmacy was so in tune with the change-over and the effects that the OP's have caused so many chronic pain patients. I was comforted by their knowledge and agreement that it was not the same. You can't beat a good pharmacist who knows what is going on and has no "allegiances" to any drug company but cares about the patients. If you can find a good, knowledgeable pharmacist to whom you can turn to, try to do so. They will be invaluable. They can't diagnose or suggest but they can be honest and inform you of the meds you take, and sometimes they can offer alternative ideas for you to talk over with your doctor. Take care.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE AND IF YOU CAN STILL GET 40 OCS.WHEN THEY CHANGED,MY LIFE STARTED GOING DOWNHILL AND HAS NOT STOPPED.I AM CLOSE TO HITTING ROCK BOTTOM.IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE LIKE THE OCS.WHAT DID THEY DO TO THAT MEDICINE.I AM ALONE,I HAVE NO ONE TO HELP.I LIVE WITH FIBROMYALGIA,CHRONIC FATIGUE.BOTH MY FEET AND KNEES OPERATION.MY SPINE IS DAMAGED,BULDGING DISK,EVEN THE DISEASE THAT DETERIOTES THE DISC THAT CAUSES YOU TO SHRINK.SCOLIOSIS.I BOUGHT A HOME IN FEBUARY.IF I CAN'T FIND SOMETHING OF THE SAME AS THE OCS HAD,I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO A NURSEING HOME.I AM DESPERATE FOR INFORMATION.PLEASE HELP ME.ALSO AGAIN,WHAT WAS IT THEY DID TO CHANGE THE OCS
Am sorry to hear of your chronic pain difficulties with the removal of the OC's from the drug company Purdue. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, Felty's syndrome, multiple joint replacements, etc., so I can relate.
For those who are wondering where they can find O/C's: They are NO LONGER AVAILABLE... period. Unfortunately, NO one can find them as they are not being made anymore. They stopped in Sept of 2010. The only company that made them changed the formulary and there is nothing anyone can do. People have complained to Purdue (the pharmaceutical company who made them) but sadly to no avail. The only thing I can recommend is that you talk to your doctor and consider switching to MS Contin or another extended release pain treatment such as a patch. It may not have the exact same effect but it is better than nothing. I can empathize and was madder than heck for awhile but after talking with a well-informed pharmacist who knew exactly what was going on, he suggested I talk to my doctor and try switching to MS Contin. It may not be as effective as the OC's but it IS better than the OP's and no longer do I have the same horrible side effects.
It is very sad that it has resulted in this. They have ruined it for many, many legitimate CP individuals unless Purdue decides to bring them back which I highly doubt. Try to find an alternative with your doctor. MS Contin has been a good alternative for me for which I am grateful. It takes a bit of adjusting but it is better than nothing. I hope this will help you. It is critical that you discuss this with your doctor who is there to help you. Blessings in your endeavors.
I have been on the OC 80's for over 5 years and when the pharms switched to OP's I have experienced bad GI probs. My doc wrote on my prescript..OC brand only but I cant find anywhere.Im in Lousiana and am due to fill tomorrow.Im afraid I may have to fill it with OPs again and Im upset.I get sooo sick and crampy with them.HELP!
I am not a doctor so I cannot speak w/ authority but I can't understand WHY any doctor would have a patient on a narcotic that is designed to release in the intestinal tract when you have colon cancer? Why does he/she not have you on a drip or a patch? As I said, I am not an authority on this but it does raise some questions in my mind, ones that I would certainly address w/my oncologist if I were in a similar situation. Suffice it to say, my heart aches for you. All I can suggest is IF your doctor wants to keep you on a long-acting oral form of pain med, this is what I would suggest:
Consult with several individual pharmacists at different pharmacies and ask each one what they know about OxyContin's new formula and whether they have heard of complaints since the new formula has been used. I suggested consulting w/ “several†because not all pharmacists are as informed and some have been known to diss the fact that any formulary change could cause problems. I was fortunate to find several that were fully aware of the problems of the new formula and who acknowledged my concerns as a probability. One or two others, however, gave the typical response, "nothing's different..." Like I said...
I don't know if you are aware that the new OxyContin formula has polymer wax on it which could be why you are having these side effects. Polymer wax is similar to car wax. The pharmaceutical company went that route to prevent abusers from crushing it to snort it. It IS possible that your doctor has no idea of the formulary change in OxyContin. When I approached my pain doctor who fully trusts me because of my record of never having abused my pain meds, he wanted to talk with the pharmacist just to be sure for his own sake. Since he had other patients on it, he needed to know more so he could treat them appropriately. In all fairness to doctors, most do not know about changes in formulas, and I have learned, they have little or no knowledge of drug side effects or of interactions w/other drugs/foods. I discovered the hard way when I was prescribed well known antibiotic and found myself deeply depressed and suicidal. It was NOT me! In desperation, I researched and found that it had a rare side effect of suicidal ideation. Hmmm. When I called my doctor he wasn’t so quick to believe me until he looked it up in his PDR. This is only to prove the point that doctor's only know as much as what the pharmaceutical reps tell them unless they do their own research. And honestly let’s face it - they don't have that time to do that! So unfortunately it is up to the patient to do the homework so that we can be informed and educate them as well.
You might also want to consider mentioning this forum and how you found others who have also been affected similarly as well. Most importantly - get your facts first before you approach your doctor with your complaints and any request to change meds or treatment. With the facts you can approach him/her with documentation and verification of what the drug’s ingredients contain and how it [the new formula] has affected others. Then you can confidently ask if he/she would at least consider giving MS Contin OR a different long-acting med a try. I apologize that this is so long. I only hope and pray that what I have learned can help others. Blessings to you.
I neglected to mention that the OC old formula is no longer being made. You will not find it anywhere no matter what the doctor writes on his Rx pad. Read below of the other comments. For awhile, one could find extras that had not been sold but too much time has passed and unfortunately, the old formula is no longer available. You just won't find it anywhere. Your other alternative is to look at other various options which are out there. It just might take a few tries to find the right one to replace your current OxyContin new formula. Best of luck to you...
