Please Help: Dilt-cd 240mg Capsule Versus Diltiazem Er (cd) 240mg Cap
(Newest replies first)
Updated
Hello. Please help. I am responsible for my father's medication and I recently switched from community pharmacy to mail order. For years he has been taking Dilt-CD 240mg Capsule made by Apotex. The shipment just arrived and I received Diltiazem ER (CD) 240mg CAP (24hr) made by Actavis. Please can someone tell me if these are in fact the same thing only made by two different companies? Or, what I need to explain to the mail order company to have it fixed? I am concerned to give him this new medication, but he is out of his old pills. Thank you in advance for your information.

i take daltizem 240 er with food every night no problem
I am 88 years old and taking Diltiazim 24H ER (CD) 240MG CP. Can someone tell me what all those letters mean? I have nausea and fatigue I think is due to this. My doc will not lower my dose.
The actual capsule and color I was allergic to so I decided to open it and put the beads in applesauce it is somewhat better now but the dark blue color has a chemical smell which makes me sick to open the bottle It is the manufacture
it would have been nice if you would have said what the new generic brand is
I have been on Diltiazem 240 ER for many years. On Tuesday when I go to pick up my prescription it was Cardizem CD Cap 240 is this a generic for the Diltiazem or did the pharmacy make a switch without my knowledge. Most importantly will the Cardizem work the same as Diltiazem?
After quite a few years on cardizem CD for A-fib and hypertension with very good results, my 92-year-old mother's pharmacy recently switched her to the ER version and after 4days her heart rate is over 100 daily, although BP has been normal to slightly high. The problem is she has had nausea, dizziness, headache, and extreme fatigue. I took one of the huge ER capsules apart and it contains 4 solid tablets, instead of the tiny bead-like particles in the CD version. As soon as the pharmacy opens I am heading there to get the CD version. Mom has experienced many side effects from various meds. I have to be very careful when they change hers.
I have always taken the 240 with food. My physician told me to take it at night time. That works for me because if I take it in the morning it makes me sleepy.
I TAKE DILTIAZEM ER 240 and my current refil has stated "take on an empty stomach" which I have never had to do before. Also, it doesn't last 24 hours. Where can I find the Dilitazem er 240 that I can take with food?
That happened to me too, there is a difference because the CD. It makes me dizzy, and it made my head feel funny. I called my doctor's office and requested a change to the ER.
The pharmacy changed my Diltiazem ER 240MG to the CD version. When I questioned them they said it was the same thing only a different manufacturer.. Whats true?? I feel if they Dr. prescribes a med they ought to fill it with what is ordered.. Should I change pharmacies
i take diltiazem la tabs 300, is there a diltiazem la caps 300 made. I ask this because the price difference between the two for 90 days is $104.00 Tabs are $116.00 for 90 days where as the caps are $12.00.
Ok my doctor prescribed cardizem and for some reason the pharmacy said the I should switch to a generic for cost reason and I agreed so they gave me Diltiazem CD made by Actavis. I go to refil the script tonight and find out that they have to change me to another manufacture (red flags going up all over) because Actavis is no longer making this drug. I am assured that the new generic drug will be ok and the same. I get home and get online to check this out and come to find out that they have violated several FDA regulations. Now, what do you recommend that I do??? take the generic or make the pharmasists give me the Cardizem CD.
I have also experienced issues with generic diltiazem not being the same. I take Diltiazem ER 180 which is the CD equivalent, but have run into problems generics, specifically with Teva brand with several types of meds. All generics are definitely not the same. I now have to specify the Actavis brand when ordering my diltiazem. I monitor my BP several times during the day, and the Teva brand literally does not bring down my BP. My pharmacist did not believe me, so now instead of buying my BP meds at costco at a much cheaper price, I have to buy them at walmart and make sure that they aren't giving me Teva brand. I have also had similar issues but to a lesser degree with other meds, so now I totally stay away from anything Teva. My pharmacist now tells me that some folks insist on Teva, so I can only chalk it up to biochemical individuality and go with what works for my body.
Thanks to Verwon for helping many folks with this informative forum.
In this case, yes, they are the same thing, just made by different companies.
Lyn, there are sometimes slight differences in the dosing between the name brand and generics, this may be what you have experienced, but they were the same medication.
Diltiazem is a Calcium Channel Blocker, used to treat hypertension, Angina and some irregular heartbeats.
Common side effects may include: nausea, headache and dizziness.

Are there any other questions?
Dilt-CD and Diltiazem ER are not the same thing. When the Cardizem LA which I was taking became unavailable, the pharmacy switched me to Diltiazem ER. The Diltiazem ER did not control my irregular heartbeat which the Cardizem LA had done. The doctor then switched me to Cardizem CD which also worked well. However, my insurance company did not cover this medication, so they changed it to Dilt-Cd which is a generic of Cardizem CD. The Dilt-CD seems to be working as well as the Cardizem CD. You really have to be on top of all these drug changes. Often the pharmacist will say that a drug is an equivalent of the one you have been taking, but that does not mean that it is truly a generic for that drug. Good luck in sorting this out.
