Please Help Me. Doctor Has Changed My Medication
(Newest replies first)
Updated
This last time my doctor changed my pain meds from Opana 10mg every 8 hr. and oxycontin 20mg twice a day
TO
Opana ER 15mg every 12 hours and Dilaudid 4mg every six hours
I was crying and pretty hopeless with diabetic neuropathy in legs and arms, severe trigger fingers, hip pain, and my knees about to blow off with pain. I also have fibromyalgia.
This doctor says that they will get in trouble if they change any of my meds.
I said I'd rather just not be here living if I have to suffer like this.
Hubby has dropped my bed from an extremely high bed to being on the floor (which has helped my hips).
I dip my hands in scalding hot wax just to divert from the trigger finger pain.
I use tubes of Bengay every two months.
I no longer fix my hair b/c the tendon in my right shoulder is shredded and needs repair, but b/c I am a type 1 diabetic in poor control they will not perform the surgery until it is intolerable.
I lay in the bed with long, moist heating pads.
I take Tylenol and Motrin and have just ordered some herbal joint pain pills and a new heating pad.
I just put in a referral for Rheumatology.
I have just recovered from triple heart bypass.
I am so depressed b/c I am only 45 and I feel like my life is over.
I literally hurt all of the time.
I may sleep 2-3 hours/night on a GOOD night.
I gave all of the history just to ask if my pain doctor is jerking me around on the new pain medication combination?????
I'm afraid this combination will not touch the pain but I began it last night.
I am so hoping someone qualified to comment on my situation will give me some advice.
I see the pain doctor again in 2 weeks.

I wish I could give you some type of info which could find you relief. Unfortunately I only have a small piece of advice. I noticed you mentioned going through 2 tubes of bengay a month. I was doing the same until I switched to Tiger Balm. I cannot live without it nor leave the house without a can of it in my purse. It does not give me 100% relief of course but it makes bengay seem like water compared to it. I massage it into the painful areas for a few minutes followed by a heating pad and it gives me great relief. I have severe chronic pain due to lupus,Addison's , fibro and rheumatoid arthritis. I'm only 40 and there are days when I just feel as though I cannot go on. Fortunately and finally after three years and 11 attempts I found the most amazing team of doctors and I have made more progress in the past two months then I have in three years. Don't give up, keep fighting and don't be afraid to keep searching for someone who believes you and in you. I found more help from integrated doctors then western medical ones. If it wasn't for my current dr I would not be walking today. Good luck
Thank you so much for the information. Voltarin gel does not work.
Heart meds are plavix, aspirin, crestor, toporol xr.
On max dose of Lyrica.
On Mirapex also.
I hurt to the bones in my legs and arms.
Yes, unfortunately, the DEA has issued directives that someone with chronic pain no longer be prescribed more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine a day and some states have lowered it even further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine a day, unless the person is suffering a possibly fatal illness, such as stage 4 cancer.
Currently, you are on the equivalent of 154mgs a day, so your doctor is right.
I know that doesn't help your situation and I am very sorry that I don't have better news for you, no one deserves to suffer, but in reality, your doctor's hands are tied.
The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
Have you tried any of the topical products that contain Capsaicin? They sometimes help alleviate pain more than Ben Gay, or the others.
What medications do you take for your heart? Some of them might be contributing to your pain.
